RE: What do you think of the theory of evolution by natural selection, do you think it's correct?

Agree. Original Christianity wasn't a creed religion, but about righteous living. The Greek Christian made it into a creed religion. Now what you believe is of paramount importance compared to how you live.

RE: What do you think of the theory of evolution by natural selection, do you think it's correct?

The above means the punishment must be comparable to the harm done. You cannot chop the hand of someone who steals like in Islam.

The above two shows the two sides of the same coin. The first is about the consequences of your actions. The second is what your attitude should be towards others. There is no contradiction.

RE: What do you think of the theory of evolution by natural selection, do you think it's correct?

I might have misunderstood that.

I don't consider myself a Christian. Christianity has deviated from the original teachings after the Bar Kochba revolt was crushed. It absorbed Pagan ideas and philosophy.

RE: What do you think of the theory of evolution by natural selection, do you think it's correct?

The creation story is a song, it is symbolic, framed into a seven day block to give a reason for the seventh day rest.

Even science cannot fault the order of creation. What do you need for human life to occur? The story is given from the viewpoint of someone standing on earth. The first chapter is the global view, the second is local to a small area.

1. light
2. water cycle (water condensed, forms ground water and clouds)
3. vegetation (how else would animals survive - no mention of sea plants)
4. good temperature (so you can see the sun, moon and the stars). You need it for a rich animal world.
5. animal world
7. mankind

Dinosaurs? Not even cockroaches, spiders are mentioned. Argument from silence...

The problem is people take it literally that the days mean literal 24 hour days. All the waters cannot possibly precipitate and form oceans and dry land to appear in a single day.

Before you accuse me of pushing my own wheelbarrow, I don't care what anyone believes, what your religion, it is not my business. But let's be fair when dealing with the bible.

Proofreading is a dying art

I have just got this today rolling on the floor laughing

This one I caught in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this.
It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!!
They put in a correction the next day. I just couldn't help but send this along. Too funny…

All governments are foreclosed

I did a bit of research because I am skeptical by nature, but it seems they truly lodged documents with the UCC, though you need to pay money to get them.

All governments are foreclosed

Looks like The OPPT has managed to make an UCC filing that made all governments (that were secretly registered as corporations) and financial institutions foreclosed. They all lost their property titles. I have to admit this is new to me, but I know people who have been researching this for years.

And all the filings:

RE: dating a single parent

Did they know you have a child before you met them? If they did (it is in your profile at least by now) I don't understand why they object.

Is the child well behaved? Some kids are better than others, but at this age they all want to have their way...

RE: What do you think of the theory of evolution by natural selection, do you think it's correct?

My apologies, I didn't write that to you personally, but in general. The general public believes the big bang is a fact and scientist know it all, and that is how those who popularize science present it.

I don't have a problem with science proposing the weirdest theories. Why not? But when they propose the idea of the multiverse - an infinite number of universes where each of these cosmological values can take up different values, in my view belief in the idea of multiverse as a reality (and not simply a mathematical model) requires an infinitely greater faith than belief in God.

Neither can be ever verified.

RE: What do you think of the theory of evolution by natural selection, do you think it's correct?

Religion doesn't make anyone necessarily better than others. At times they can even end up being worse. It depends. But through the years I met some truly great people in the churches.

The problem with Christianity in general that it became a creed religion in the first few centuries after the destruction of Jerusalem. Prior to that it was a deed religion. They lived a humble, righteous life and cared for the poor.

But after that unless you subscribed to the creeds you ended up all your properties confiscated and exiled, or even killed.

Today the original teaching is all forgotten and you find a lot of entertainment in the churches.

RE: Aldi coming to Adelaide !!!

Well, here is my take on Aldi.

Before they entered the Australian market the big two ripped off consumers as much as they wanted. There was no competition. Once Aldi came to our suburb our grocery bill dropped by at least $50/week for the family, and we only bought stuff we liked from Aldi.

However, they sell a lot of crap. Avoid their brand of technology as fire. I took back just about everything I bought from them except for a drawing tablet, which works OK, but not a good quality.

They sell cheap TVs with very low specs and as I heard the warranty service is shocking. When I shopped around for a washing machine I read the stories of people who bought washing machines from Aldi which developed a computer fault. And the nightmare these people had to go through to get them serviced!

I bought a 16MP digital camera. Took it back straight away, the images in full size looked like paintings, the camera had such a small sensor and low quality lenses.

The other problem is their specials. A few months ago I lined up for 45 minutes for an Android tablet they advertised even on TV. They only had about six (yes, SIX) tablets in the whole store and were sold out in seconds. Then they took names of people who wanted them. Bait advertising? I put my name down, they said I would get one in 30 days, but after more than 2 and a half months they called me about it and I said, thank you, but no, thank you. By that time Google released their tablet for the same price with much better quality and specs.

My other issue with them is if they have a good product you like, a few weeks later they change it to crap. They keep changing suppliers I suppose because of price. They don't care about quality. The toilet paper is cheaper than at Coles or Woolies, but they are unusable as they fall apart in your hand, you need to use twice as much. The breakfast cereal was great until one day the next lot I bought was tasteless. They regularly have rotten vegetables and fruit left on trays. The milk bottles regularly leak when you lay them down in the fridge.

One good thing until they change supplier. Their Brasilica coffee. The best I have tasted.

RE: Do you trust scientists/technologists?

Scientist just do their jobs. They experiment, investigate, come up with theories, etc. It is those who popularise science that make a mess of it because they present theories as if they were facts. Scientists know they are theories even if they are generally accepted like Einstein's theory of special relativity. So when new data comes to light scientists will re-evaluate the theory and amend it or develop a completely new one. They know that theories only present them with a framework in which they can work, but may not necessarily be true and may need to be modified in the future. Very often you find that a few theories compete with each other, like super symmetry with other theories (I cannot recall their names) in particle science.

Prevention is better than the cure. But vaccination is not prevention. I have a mate who was vaccinated against whooping cough and he got it and was sick as a dog. Vaccination is an unnatural way to force immunity to develop. Proper immunity is not only in the blood, but is multi-level. It starts with the skin, the mucus membrane, etc, the first line of defense. Vaccination completely bypasses them.

Sanitation and hygiene, and nutritious food are a much better way. I remember, in my childhood cancer was unknown.

Big money making exercise for the big pharmaceutical corporations.

The bubonic plague decimated Europe in the middle ages but left the Jewish community virtually untouched. Why? Vaccination?

No. Sanitation, hygiene. And they also separated the sick from the healthy.

What would you do if you loved someone and suddenly became paralyzed?

Helen Keller was not completely paralyzed, I think. She would have been able to read by touching... Peter Blundy cannot control his body.

It is a hard question. I would want to let my loved one go free to live a full life, but at the same time I would have to battle with deep pain, this enormous hunger for love in my own heart, and utter loneliness....

What would you do if you loved someone and suddenly became paralyzed?

The original question was what if that happened to *you*?

What would you do if you loved someone and suddenly became paralyzed?

Jem, I think you misunderstood it. He meant that if he lost his eyesight on the top of all his disabilities (cannot move, cannot speak), he would not be able to do anything and would not want to live.

What would you do if you loved someone and suddenly became paralyzed?

If she loved me and desired to care about me, but I pushed her away - though it would break my heart - so that she could have a life, would I do justice? She could have *another* life but I would rob her from this one... Is it for me to make that decision for her?

Here is a story that ended differently...

What would you do if you loved someone and suddenly became paralyzed?

Spinal injury is a serious thing. But when it is coupled with brain injury it is another. Suffering from locked-in syndrome is probably one of the worst possible scenario. But this is not even the worst.

The man this thread is about said once, if he could not see he would not want to live. He can now put up with being completely paralyzed...

... but not to see is the worst he can imagine...

Because then he would not be able to do anything at all...

An idea if you are a bit desperate :)

I asked because it is something worth to think about. And it is interesting to read about the various opinions.
