RE: Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

I heard a very similar story with the same moral.

A farmer goes out one day and buys a brand new stud
rooster for his chicken coop.

The new rooster struts over to the old rooster and
says, "OK old fart, time for you to retire."
The old rooster replies, "Come on, surely you cannot
handle ALL of these chickens. Look what it has done to me. Can't you just let me have the two old hens over in the corner?"

The young rooster says, "Beat it: You are washed up
and I am taking over." The old rooster says, "I tell you what, young stud. I will race you around the farmhouse. Whoever wins gets the exclusive domain over the entire chicken coop."

The young rooster laughs. "You know you don't stand
a chance old man. So, just to be fair I will give you a head start." The old rooster takes off running. About 15 seconds
later the young rooster takes off running after him. They round the front porch of the farmhouse and the young rooster has closed the gap. He is already about 5 inches behind
the old rooster and gaining fast.

The farmer, meanwhile, is sitting in his usual spot
on the front porch when he sees the roosters running by. He grabs his shotgun and - BOOM - He blows the young rooster to bits.
The farmer sadly shakes his head and says,
"Dammit... third gay rooster I bought this month."

Moral of this story.... Don't mess with the OLD
FARTS - age and treachery
will always overcome youth and skill!

RE: this is my last post on the forums

You two look like you would make a nice couple. Same age bracket and all. Good luck but take a tip from an old dude, keep it off the forums or your gonna get jinxed. I've seen it happen before. There are some people who read these threads that will try to torpedo your relationship out of jealousy.

RE: ANYONE ELSE HAVE CHICKENS?

LMAO let me put it this way, a field mouse would be a snack for a chicken esp a rooster.

I raised pigs for a while and one of my baby pigs couldn't support hinself with his hind legs, I took him to a vet who gave him a shot of B12 and before we left the little guy was running around the office. we had a hard time catching him.

Go there and post your question.

RE: Sympathy Poems

I missed my dad when he was alive
I don't miss him now
he was AWOL all my life
I guess he had more important things to do
Towards the end he got a little forgetful
He didn't even recognise me the last time we met
That hurt like Hell
Throughout my childhood I thought I wasn't good enough for him
Thats why he never came around except at Christmas time.
I tried so hard giving him hugs and kisses when he showed up
Trying to make him come back
But it didn't work
Funny how you can love somebody who's never around
My mother had boyfriends lots of them, I saw more of them
I had no love for them, any of them, ever!
In fact I hated them
Well, now he's dead and buried and I don't even care to know where
He threw me away so now it's my turn to throw him away!

RE: Out of these 5, which poet is your favorite?

This should tell you:

Hear the sledges with the bells
Silver bells!
What a world of merriment their melody foretells!
How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,
In the icy air of night!
While the stars that oversprinkle
All the heavens, seem to twinkle
With a crystalline delight;
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the tintinnabulation that so musically wells
From the bells, bells, bells, bells,
Bells, bells, bells
From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells.

RE: Your Username........

Interesting. I got a totally incorrect impression the first time I saw your name. I took it to mean that you are what any man would wish for. My gut reaction was jeeze, how conceited can some people be? Note to self, stay far away from this one!

As to my name, it has nothing to do with pot ie "doobies", it's the name of a song by Roy Orbison from the early 50's

RE: Which is the most conservative state?

Well Zeloniy does rhyme with felony.laugh

RE: New Pres.

A year from now this subject of white, black, mixed race, whatever wont even be a topic of discussion. People will totally forget his racial makeup when they see him meeting with foreign dignitaries and addressing the nation during state of the union speeches.

He's our president and he was elected by a wide majority of the people. Now that he's got the job it's up to all of us to do whatever it takes to help him get done what desparately needs to get done.

He's just a man, he's not a god, he can't do it without us, ALL of us. If you want to see your 401K's or your IRA's or your stocks & bonds and retirement accounts go back up, not to mention getting people back to work and yes even paying taxes again, we need to all work together. BTW, there's an old saying on Wall Street "If you aint paying taxes, you aint making money." I would love to have a $100,000 tax bill cause that would mean I was making millions.

We have 8 years of a mistake prone administration to correct. That wont happen overnight and not without a lot of hard work and cooperation from Democrats and Republicans working together like hasn't been done in decades. The time to end the polarization of America is NOW.

RE: whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Tell us about your date Sat night, that ought to be good for a laugh.

RE: If you did not have to pay child support would you?

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Legally, at least in the US, a custodial parent doesn't have the right to allow the non custodial parent to avoid paying child support. Child support is the property of the child.

Many non custodial parents, most but certainly not all are males, are probably not aware of this fact. If they were, they may not be so determined to avoid supporting their kids. Many custodial parents seem to link visitation with child support ie if you don't pay child support you're not going to see the kids. This is wrong! A child has a right to have a relationship with both parents and children should never be used as a tool to use on the other parent.
Another thing divorced parents do is bad mouth the other parent. This is a very bad thing to do because by doing so you are insulting the childs parent. How would you like to have somebody saying nasty things about your mother or father?

RE: How would you woo a man on CS

Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it.. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk everything,
.
.
.
you risk even more.

My first poem

For you gorgeous!

If you click on that link don't be startled by the image of the guy with the "Oil Can Harry" mustashe, it's just the govenor of IL. What a sleeze, I knew he was corrupt the first time I saw his pic, his eyes are too close together, that's a dead giveaway in my book. rolling on the floor laughing

My first poem

I bit the bullet and submitted my first poem to poetry magazine. Unfortunately I have to wait up to 8 weeks to find out if I stink or not laugh
I also can't post it here because it's against their rules of submission. I'm kind of nervous about it but I'm sure 8 weeks from now I won't even remember submitting it. I'll give you a little hint though. It was inspired by a member of this site.

RE: out on a date tonight, how can i escape early if im not enjoying it

If you feel like this why did you agree to go on a date with him?

I'm sure glad I'm not him! He may not be Mel Gibson but he has a heart which you're about to grind under your heel.
Do the guy a favor and cancel now before he gets all built up only to be ditched.

RE: economic woes and employment problems and possible solutions

In 1995 I left a well paying job in Ohio to follow my woman to NJ. My kids were also in NJ with their mother so there was nothing left for me in Ohio. I told my boss I have to leave because my heart was 650 miles to the East. He offered me $10,000 a year more if I would stay. It was a tough decision but I left anyway.
When I got to NJ I moved in with my GF and couldn't find a job in my field so I decided to contact a messenger service and they had me do deliveries of packages with my car for 50% commission.
I learned my way around fairly quickly and a year later I switched to using my box truck and started making a lot more money. I wore that old truck out and got a newer one and wore that one out also. 13 years later I'm still driving a truck for myself and doing pretty good at it. I work when I feel like it and take the jobs I want and turn down jobs that I don't like doing.

If someone has a decent running car and likes to drive there are courier companies everywhere and they aren't fussy about who they take on because they don't have to pay wages only a percentage of the job. The more drivers and vehicles they have the better it is for them. If you have a van better yet and if you have a truck they will welcome you with open arms. The best part is you get a fat tax deduction for using a vehicle in your business 40 something cents a mile. do the math on 20,000 miles a year.

RE: is it really bad manners to say Whatever?

Not just yes, but Hell yes! That expression sends me up a wall.
The subliminal message that expression sends is not welcome to the person it's directed to.

RE: Geese bring jet down...

Beautiful though they are, these geese create a lot of problems all over the Northeast. Due in part to the creation of 1,000's of acres of lush manicured lawns in corporate offices, parks and shopping malls the geese population has exploded. Nor are these geese migratory anymore. They have found such a welcome environment in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area that they are very content to just stay put and mate thank you.

Their numbers will have to be culled one day not just for airline safety but for health reasons too. Their droppings are also a major problem.

Breaking alt energy news

SEBRING, Jan 15, 2009 (Highlands Today - McClatchy-Tribune Information Servicesvia COMTEX) -- Verenium Corporation announced Thursday it will construct the world's first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant in Highlands County, in cooperation with Lykes Brothers supplying the biomass. The process to produce cellulosic ethanol, based on technology developed by the University of Florida, uses renewable grasses for fuel production instead offood crops. The plant, which will provide about 150 full-time jobs in the production of 36million gallons of ethanol per year, will cost about $250 million to construct on the Lykes Brothers ranch, off State Road 70 east of US 27. Verenium plans to break ground in the second half of this year and have the plant in full production in 2011, said Tim Eves, vice president for commercial development. An incentive package of about $15 million from the state was a key factor in the company deciding to build its first plant here, Eves said. State incentives for the project include a $7 million "farm to fuel" grant from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, plus funding for infrastructure including road improvements, Eves said. "I think it's a tremendous step for the country as well as the county," said Highlands County Commissioner Don Bates from Tallahassee, where he attended a press conference announcing the project by Verenium, Lykes Brothers and state officials. Bates said the project "moves us away from being dependant on foreign oil, it will be very supportive of agriculture, and we will have another outlet for agriculture products that will not compete with the food crops."

RE: God... where is he in 2008 ...? ??

Wouldn't it be ironic if the "believers" turn out to be the ones who were wrong and were deceived? The sad thing is they will have squandered the one life they had. There are no do-overs. You only get one go round on this planet, make the best of it.

RE: I quit.

Not to be judgemental but how can a 7 YO kid be a smoker? Did you drink at 7 also? Where were the people whos' job it was to guide and protect you? BTW, you seemed to have developed a very strong charactor which is typical of someone who's had it rough especially in childhood. I tip my hat to you sir! handshake

RE: 911 was...

I've read a lot on the subject but a lot of my insight comes from working with metals and engineering and some plain old common sense. On the subject of prep work needed to collapse a building Canrad posted some great details I wish I said.

I think the thing that gave birth to the idea of explosives going off prior to the collapse was some people heard loud bangs coming from the building if I remember correctly. This reminded me of something that happened a few years ago when they were building a big stadium. They were using the mother of all cranes to lift a humongus roof section. It was a windy day and they should never have attempted the lift in that wind. The first anybody suspected something was wrong was everybody heard some very loud bangs and a few seconds later the crane tipped over and the roof section came crashing down. Those bangs it was discovered were some of the large pins that held the sections of the crane together.

RE: 911 was...

Dude, I debunked that idea way back on page 2. Jet fuel is basically Kerosene not gasoline and Kerosene doesn't explode it burns.
Also as previously stated the beams don't have to melt, only weaken from the heat and sag which they did.

RE: WWII-Era Mass Grave Believed to Contain 1,800 Germans

Reading between the lines I'd say the advancing red army rounded up all the German inhabitants of that town and stripped them, killed them and even stole their false teeth and any gold crowns I would assume, threw them in that bomb crater and bulldozed it over.
War is Hell.

RE: A LONGTERM RELATIONSHIP WITH A SINGLE MOM ?

Ocean, the original thread author is long gone as this thread was started Sep 11, 2008. Her profile isn't even in effect anymore so chances are she won't read your response. I find it helpful to take a glance at the date of the thread to make sure it's current.
