RE: Can't find anyone locally who hasn't been "online over 1 month"

I've suggested that CS purge anybody who has been inactive for over 6 months because I bet many people have left the site and will never come back.

OPEC about to get a haircut

That's an interesting perspective. But I'm somewhat ignorant as to how the Fed caused oil prices to come down. I know the US Dollar is gaining strength compared to the Euro and other currencies. Has the Fed done something to make our dollar more desirable?

OPEC about to get a haircut

Energy companies were by far the worst-performing group in the Standard & Poor's 500 Friday as crude-oil futures slid to a fresh 3 1/2-month low and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries issued a report indicating world stockpiles will grow. Also dragging down the sector is the stronger dollar, which chased investment funds out of commodities. The S&P 500 energy sector was recently down 1.76%, with losses in oil companies partially offset by gains by refiners. Hess Corp. (HES), National Oilwell Varco Inc. (NOV) and Occidental Petroleum Corp. (OXY) were all down more than 3% in recent trading. Coal companies Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU), Consol Energy Inc. (CNX) and Arch Coal Inc. (ACI) - which isn't a S&P 500 member - were also down more than 3%; the trio has seen volatile trading of late amid the fluctuations in crude prices. Refiners were among the only energy companies in the S&P 500 that were up, with Sunoco Inc. (SUN) rising 2.5%, Tesoro Corp. (TSO) climbing 2.4% and Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) up 1.6%. Refiners haven't benefitted from surging crude prices, as they haven't been able to fully push through to consumers their increased costs of buying oil when selling their refined products. In its monthly report, OPEC said current production by its member countries is well above expected demand for OPEC crude, a trend that the group said could lead to a potential sharp build in crude-oil inventories. -By Jennifer Hoyt, Dow Jones Newswires; 201-938-2474; jennifer.hoyt@dowjones.com (Gregory Meyer contributed to this report.)

I told you crude oil was going to crash 2 months ago! Who do you think is responsible for this?

YOU ARE! By driving less, parking that gas pig, car pooling, riding your bikes and walking you have succeeded in bringing big oil to it's knees.
handshake cheers

RE: Help!!!! Vechicle Problems

I really loved this part,

"If same code appears (scratch head) and try something else,"

That should tell you everything you need to know about just how little these new ODBII ECU systems are understood by mechanics even the ones who work in dealerships.

Here's 2 ways to absolutely fix this problem. Assuming the vehicle runs well and gets normal milage you can either:

1, Remove the bulb from the check engine light or

2, cut about a 1/2" piece of electrical tape and affix it to the light on the dash rendering the light invisible.

Being somewhat lazy I opt for method #2.

That was very moving Dan. Who was she? Tell us about her so we can keep her alive in our memories. sad flower

RE: Is rock and roll dead??

R&R had a very difficult beginning what with the establishment trying like hell to kill it. Of course the worst thing you can do to stop kids from doing something is to tell them not to do it. Naturally, every attempt to sabotage R&R failled because the harder the adults pushed, the harder the kids resisted. By the time Pat Boone released the Little Richard tune "Tutty Frutty" (which really sucked btw barf ) and Perry Como came out with "Dungaree Doll" or Kaye Starr released "Rock & Roll Waltz" the battle was over.
peace

I will never forget as long as I live watching the Ed Sullivan show after the Brother Four did their hit "Greenfields" that Ed came out on stage and uttered these words; "Now isn't the a welcome change from the trash of Rock & Roll." That is verbatum btw. What a goddamn hypocrite! This guys ratings went through the roof when he had Elvis Presley and the Beatles on his show not to mention numerous other R&R greats like Fats Dominoe, Little Richard, Buddy Holly etc etc.

RE: Is rock and roll dead??

Very good topic ship.

R&R is dead in the same way that Homo Erectus is dead but the Human race is still alive and kicking. R&R has evolved into something new. The days of "Johnny be Good" or "Rock Around the Clock" may be gone but Rockin music is still being made and enjoyed. There have been mis-steps along the way, Disco for example, but the R&R DNA is still alive and kicken it.

BTW, IMO the EPITOME of a Rock & Roll song is one that few people have ever even heard. It's called "CA PLANE POUR MOI" by Plastic Bertrand. From 1977.
Anybody ever heard it?

RE: Can smoking be "social"?

I'm throwing stones from inside a glass house being addicted to caffeine (coffee) but I drank coffee since childhood. It use to be considered very bad for you but that didn't stop me. Fortunately the latest studies show coffee isn't nearly as bad as it was once thought so now I don't worry about it anymore.
Unlike you, if I was with a group of smokers I would be forced to leave which I have done more than once. Either go to another room or leave altogether. I've actually walked out of a concert that I paid $25.00 for tickets for because virtually everybody in the place was smoking.
I don't take issue with people who smoke, I take issue with the insidious tobacco plant itself. It has taken a lot of wonderful friends and people well before their time.

RE: Can smoking be "social"?

In a word....NO

Nicotine is a powerful addictive narcotic....Period!

Sorry but claiming to smoke "socially" is a cop out. It proves the smoker is in denial about being addicted to nicotine.

RE: I quit my job!

She needs a rich old man with 1 foot in the grave and the other one on a banana peel.

RE: I quit my job!

ok, so now what are you doing for income? I hope you had something lined up before you quit. I guess they didn't have a 1st shift position for you.

Good luck, I hope you land on your feet. comfort

Think you've heard it all? Think again!

Hi newinsouth, yes it's shameful how many infants die in cars that are left parked in the sun with the windows rolled up and locked. I guess some people have short attention spans or A.D.D. and loose track of what they are doing. I'll bet the number of pets is even higher.

Is everybody enjoying my thread?

Think you've heard it all? Think again!

Aww come on indy you and I probably agree on more things than either of us realize.

Anyway, back on topic.

Think you've heard it all? Think again!

I hate to throw a wet blanket on my own thread especially since everybody is having so much fun with it, but the gas (CO2) they are referring to is from the act of breathing not what issues from the nether region.

here's another gem for your enjoyment:

It is apparently becoming more difficult to recruit competent suicide bombers in Afghanistan because twice in a two-day period in January, clumsy bombers accidentally blew themselves up before they ever had the chance to take their targets out. One fell down a flight of stairs while on his way to an attack in the town of Khost, and the other's bomb accidentally exploded as he was getting dressed for an assignment in the town of Lashkar Gah (although the latter bomber did take three colleagues with him). [Agence France-Presse, 1-24-08]

Good help is SO hard to find these days. Darwin could write a whole chapter on the dead branch of suicide bombers on the tree of humanity.

Aron Pritchard, 27, was convicted of child endangerment in March in Hutchinson, Kan., after a jury declined to accept his explanation for his girlfriend's kids, age 2 and 3, being burned in a hot clothes dryer. Several psychotherapists told The New York Times in February that treatments are being developed for people who are excessively worried about their own carbon emissions being responsible for "global warming." More than 120 therapists are now listed as specialists in the field on Ecopsychology.org, and schools such as Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore., have created courses on counseling such patients. RE: Price At The Pump

you guys don't know how the refiners work. They buy oil in advance for a price they "forcast" (a fancy word for "guess") it will be in the future. Right now they are cracking crude from oil they bought when the price was much higher and going up. Until that supply is used up the price at the pump will not drop as fast as the price of crude oil. Gas always lags behind oil, always, going up or down.

RE: This is just a horrible and sick thing this guy did. He should rot in jail. (Disturbing, warning!!)

I didn't read but the first page of this thread so I don't know if this was mentioned but the woman will probably not survive past the 4th week. It's typical in severe burn cases that at 4 weeks I think it's the liver gives up or is it the kidneys not sure, but thats the critical point in such a severe burn situation.
Of course when (odds are it's when and not if) she dies he will be facing some stiff additional charges.

RE: Bus passenger beheaded seat mate

I should probably stay out of this thread but I was wondering about something. But first, I don't think he was a muslim extremist if he had a Pastor and attends a church. So the whole terrorist theory doesn't wash in my eyes.
I realize the media doesn't always give all the gory details but the truth usually comes out eventually.

What I'm curious about is why he boarded a bus for about an 800 mile trip with a 12" butcher knife? That almost has the appearance of pre-meditation on his part doesn't it? But the young man he killed was a stranger to him therefore between the knife and killing a total stranger he has to be totally insane.

RE: Bus passenger beheaded seat mate

Would it make any difference if they were affluent like you?

Psycho Killer opinions

I know of 2 versions of this song one by Moxy Fruvous the other by the Talking Heads.

Which if either, is the original and which do you like better?
I like the Moxy Fruvous version better.

RE: Bus passenger beheaded seat mate

Thats what makes it unusual, if they guy was white or black I wouldn't have even thought of commenting on his race but it is exactly because he is Asian that it is so hard to believe these 2 heinous crimes were commited by an Asian. It's just not like them.

I agree with your point about cultural differences.

As to the method of execution it is my understanding ( I am probably wrong and I'm sure you will correct me) that this is the method employed in Russia as opposed to lethal injection where everybody worries about the condemned having some pain in the process the way bleeding hearts here in America do.
Anyway, if I misrepresented the Russian justice system I appologize.

RE: Not new by far but have been gone for awhile...

Welcome back babe, missed you. It's been a little boring around here, maybe you could liven it up.

RE: Bus passenger beheaded seat mate

Not one iota! I just thought it was odd that 2 of the most notorious murder cases in recent times were by Asians. It does seem odd given how law abiding Asians typically are. I wonder if it has something to do with cultural differences such as a possible lack of acceptance or understanding by westerners.

RE: Bus passenger beheaded seat mate

This guy will never see the light of day except through bars or bullet proof glass. He'll be confined to an institution for the criminally insane for the rest of his life.

RE: Bus passenger beheaded seat mate

Another Asian nut case. Just like the Virginia Tech murders. Sorry Canada, now you will have to feed, clothe, house, bathe, and provide for this guys bodily effluents for the rest of his life. Oh also books, TV, excersize, medical & dental needs.

Sometimes I think the Russians have a better system. A single shot to the back of the head and everybody goes home.

RE: And this is how we arrived here~

Your info is a little dated. The oil in Pennsylvania was sucked out and used up years ago.

RE: GREAT ABBA SONG

Try opening another tab and paste it into the new tab.

The worlds future transportation fuel

Thank you HL, I figured you would be interested being a fellow trucker. BTW, have you any idea why the pump price of diesel should be higher than gasoline? This question has never been answered to my satisfaction. I'm sure diesel is closer to crude oil than gasoline is so it just doesn't make any sense.

Lately I have been turning work down unless it pays very well. I wont even start my truck for a marginal job. I guess I'm partly responsible for higher transportation costs. laugh

The worlds future transportation fuel

Maybe I should explain exactly what I'm talking about so you can get some meaningful information from it. I realize what I posted sounds like a bunch of tech speak to a lot of people.

To start with Ethanol is just a popular name for Ethyl Alcohol hence they named it Ethanol. You can drink it so long as it hasn't been adulterated with poison like what they do to rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol that has been spiked with poison is called de-natured alcohol.
Most Ethanol is made from corn which is why the price of everything made from corn and all livestock and the products they produce (eggs, milk, butter, beef, pork etc) is very expensive because the demand for corn to produce ethanol has driven the price of corn through the roof. Corn use to sell for 2-3 dollars a bushel for decades, now it's 8 dollars a bushel.

Cellulosic ethanol is no different from ordinary ethanol made from corn except it isn't made from corn therefore there is no impact on the supply of corn which is mostely used for livestock feed. Did you know that about 90% of corn produced in the US is "feed corn" which isn't fit for human consumption except to make cornmeal? Most people probably think those cornfields you see all over the country is the sweet corn you buy at the store to make corn on the cob or canned corn but it isn't. If you ever tried to eat feed corn you would probably break your teeth.
the word cellulosic comes from the word cellulose which is basically the stuff wood is made of as well as most vegatable matter, corn stalks & cobs, sugar cane, paper & cardboard, weeds, straw etc etc.
There's a whole slew of co's building plants to produce cellulosic ethanol all over the world. The technology is still in development because there are several methods employed to make ethanol from cellulose. Right now these co's are testing all the methods to find out which is the most efficient and cost effective.

I hope that helps.
