RE: recomend me a film

here's a couple of offbeat movies.

"What's eating Glibert Grape" with Johnny Depp

"My Giant" with Billy Crystal.

Powell will have a role in [my] adminstration

Let's take a look at Senator Mccains war record shall we?

"Most of the major media outlets find it impossible to publish a story about McCain which doesn’t include the phrase “war hero” in it somewhere. If you know anything about John McCain, it’s that he’s a war hero. But is he?

McCain’s reputation as a war hero rests on the sum total of 20 hours in combat. That’s right. McCain spent only 20 hours in combat in the entire war. He flew 23 missions. He got 28 medals. In other words, he got more medals than he had missions. Not bad. It should be noted that none of McCain’s medals related to anything he did in combat. They were given for the supposed bravery he displayed after he had been shot down and captured.

It’s appropriate to ask whether McCain’s shoot-down was caused by bad luck or simple incompetence on his part. Of course, there is no way to answer definitively. But we can form an assessment based on the rest of McCain’s military record. At the Naval Academy, McCain graduated almost bottom of his class. He was 790th out of 795. McCain lost many aircraft over the course of his military career – five in total. Most pilots who lost aircraft at the rate McCain did would have been kicked out of the service. But McCain had protection from up on high. His father was an admiral. He was an untouchable. So McCain blundered his way through his military career until he was finally shot down.

McCain claims that he was tortured while in custody. There were no other American witnesses to this torture and some former POWs doubt that it happened at all. In fact, McCain himself admitted in a 1973 interview with the magazine US News and World Report that he volunteered to give military information in return for medical treatment, even before being subjected to any torture.

There are two ways to look at the torture claims. Either McCain is lying about it – in which case he’s unfit to be president; or he’s telling the truth – in which case he’s unfit to be president. Why? Because torture is one of those experiences, like being abused as a child, which inflicts permanent psychological damage.

There is every reason to suspect that McCain suffered deep-seated psychological trauma while a prisoner of war. He himself says that he was “reduced to an animal” and “broken”. He signed confessions – “I am a black criminal and have performed the deeds of an air pirate” - and made broadcasts denouncing his own country and its actions in the war. In fact, so great was his propensity to tell his captors what they wanted to hear, that, in the camp, McCain acquired the name of “Songbird”.

Here, read it yourself.

Powell will have a role in [my] adminstration

"WASHINGTON – Colin Powell will have a role as a top presidential adviser in an Obama administration, the Democratic White House hopeful said Monday.

"He will have a role as one of my advisers," Barack Obama said on NBC's "Today" in an interview aired Monday, a day after Powell, a four-star general and President Bush's former secretary of state, endorsed him.

"Whether he wants to take a formal role, whether that's a good fit for him, is something we'd have to discuss," Obama said.

Being a top presidential adviser, especially on foreign policy, would be familiar ground to Powell on a subject that's relatively new to the freshman Illinois senator. Obama has struggled to establish his foreign policy credentials against GOP candidate John McCain, a decorated military veteran, former prisoner of war and ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

In the NBC interview, Obama said Powell did not give him a heads-up before he crossed party lines and endorsed the Democratic presidential candidate on the network's "Meet the Press" a day earlier.

In that interview, Powell called Obama a "transformational figure" in the nation's history and expressed disappointment in some of McCain's campaign tactics. But, Powell said, he didn't plan to hit the campaign trail with Obama before the Nov. 4 election.

"I won't lie to you, I would love to have him at any stop," Obama said with a grin Monday. "Obviously, if he wants to show up he's got an open invitation."

Let's see what the score card looks like as of right now.

Obama is a Muslim...Wrong

Obama associates with terrorists...Wrong

Obama refuses to salute the flag...Wrong

Obama refuses to wear a flag pin...Wrong

Obama will raise the taxes on "Joe the plumber"...Wrong

Obama is not a citizen...Wrong

I guess the "experience" and "foreign policy" issue has been laid to rest now also.

Would anybody care to weigh John Mccains war record against Colin Powell's? dunno

I didn't think so! cool

RE: Colin Powell endorses OBama

That's just the problem, you're NOT listening to anything except what the GOP feeds you. Remember what Lincoln said about fooling people. Bush fooled everybody for "some of the time" but his fooling days are long over. Why, I bet you even think he writes his own speeches, he doesn't and neither did that other "great" man you are so fond of and wish would come back from the dead to preside over this country, you remember the actor who starred in "Bedtime for Bonzo". Then there's that other great actor the "Terminator". Jesus, when did the GOP go Hollywood? Is this the way of the future? Are our political hopefuls coming to the conclusian that the surest way to success is not through law school but through Julliard?
If Bush was a good actor he would still be fooling people today but he's a hack.
BTW, bush fooled 100% of Republicans and at best maybe 25% of Democrats. What that says about Democrats is they are pretty damn smart.

RE: Colin Powell endorses OBama

That is not at all what I said. scold

Gullible yes! A little lazy, maybe, but I wasn't implying he isn't a very smart man.

RE: For All Obama Supporters

Sorry Anna, meant to post a link.doh

RE: For All Obama Supporters

IMO the song sucked but the show(s) that spawned it were great. I don't know if you ever saw any because they are so old but if you can rent one you won't be disappointed especially the original "The Prisoner" series.

Creation of a career criminal

Barring any presence of a defective gene, I would assume it to be a combination of factors we're all familiar with such as bad parents, the street, rampant drug culture, poverty, all of the above.

Hi ibizi.bouquet

Creation of a career criminal

This story breaks my heart to see a young man going down in flames at the tender age of 18. He's already a convicted felon. sigh

Oct 17, 2008 (Danville Register & Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Servicesvia COMTEX) -- The student charged with walking onto the Danville CommunityCollege campus Monday morning with a gun has a criminal record and pending trials.
Bruce Wayne Elder, 18, of Danville, was arrested Monday after a fellow student said she saw him transferring a gun from his backpack to somewhere else on hisbody before entering the Temple Building. No one was injured in the incident, which prompted school officials to put the campus on lockdown. Elder has a couple previous arrests and convictions, including two counts of grand larceny, burglary and ID theft, according to public court records. Elder was arrested in December 2007 and charged with grand larceny for stealing from Wal-Mart, Commonwealth's Attorney William Fuller said. Court documents show he also was charged with misdemeanor ID theft and avoiding arrest. Elder pleaded guilty to the charges on July 16 in Danville Circuit Court and was sentenced to five years in prison. In line with state guidelines, Judge David Melesco immediately suspended the sentence and instead gave Elder one year of probation. Shortly after his first arrest and months before he was due in court, Elder was arrested and charged with another crime. On Jan. 2, he was charged with grand larceny after he was accused of breaking into a friend's house and stealing an Xbox video game console, Fuller said. Elder was supposed to appear in court regarding that incident on Aug. 26. He didn't, but because he appeared on Aug. 27 for sentencing in the Wal-Mart larceny case, the court reset the date for Sept. 9. When Elder again didn't appear in court, the court issued a capias and he was arrested on Sept. 12 for not appearing. Elder was held in jail for one week, before appearing in court on Sept. 19 and pleading guilty to the crime. Fuller said charges of grand larceny were dropped to statutory burglary. Elder said he didn't appear in court on Sept. 9 because of a family emergency, the prosecutor said. The court agreed to release him on a $25,000 bond to his mother. Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Michael Newman said he argued in court that for various reasons Elder should not be released to his mother. Since Elder's uncle actually put up the money for the bond and lived closer to DCC where Elder was attending classes, the court decided to release him to his uncle, Newman said. Fuller said Elder's student status was a factor in getting his sentence suspended. "The court very much wanted him to go to classes," Fuller said. Elder now faces two counts of felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and underage possession of alcohol in connection with Monday's gun scare at DCC.

RE: Would you say that people these days are health conscious OR weight conscious???

From my observations I have to say neither.

RE: Do you own a animal?..............Dog, cat or fish.................or...........?

If they would let me on a plane with an ax I could come out there and take care of him for you.laugh

I've had many roosters and they were all mean! I've never owned a nice rooster yet. These days I've eliminated all roosters from my flock of hens (12 at the moment) all big brown egg layers.

About "Hank", you realize of course that he could cause you a world of trouble if he ever attacked a child. A rooster like you describe can do some serious damage to a childs face including taking an eye out with their spurs. This was a contributing factor of why I got rid of my roosters. Think about it.

Polifact Debunks Obama-Ayers Connection

I posted this in another thread, I guess you missed it so I'll paste it here.

"It's funny how a lot of people give her credit for being the Governor of the biggest state in the union, however Alaska may be big in square miles but the population of the whole state is only 683,478 (07) that is only 0.22% the population of the United States. Tiny Rhode Island has over a million. The population of Manhattan is 1.5 million and that is just 1 of NYC's 5 boroughs. The Mayor of NYC has a job 10X tougher than the governor of Alaska could ever have."

Addendum: From a lot of what I've read about Sarah Palin, she spent an inordinate amount of her official time as Governor at home in Wasilla instead of being on the job in Ancorage.

RE: DID OBAMA EVER COME UP WITH A BIRTH CERTIFICATE YET ??

At 23% approval rating George Bush has lost 77% of the american people and by sheer numbers alone that includes an awful lot of Republicans. George Bush has damaged the GOP like no Democrat ever could. That is part of the legacy he leaves behind.

It would have been better for the GOP if Kerry won in 04 and had to deal with all the mess Bush created in his first term. He may well have failed which would have set up the GOP to take the White House now for the next 8 years. Oh well, I guess the "architect" (Karl Rove for you neophites) couldn't think that far ahead.

Polifact Debunks Obama-Ayers Connection

The McCain campaign and the RNC are still using ads that link Obama and 1960s radical William Ayers. Now Polifact

has examined the ads closely and concluded that the claim that Obama and Ayers ran a radical education foundation together is a "pants-on-fire" lie. While it is true that Obama was the nominal head of the foundation in question, Ayers never had a paid position on the foundation's staff, never was on the board, and never had a vote on anything. His connection to Obama was attending some board meetings that were open to the public, and this 20 years after his radical days, by which time he had reformed enough to get a Ph.D. in education from Columbia University and was able to win Chicago's "Citizen of the Year" award in 1997 for his work for nonprofit organizations. In short, while Ayers was a despicable person in his youth, the McCain campaign's relentless harping on the close relationship between Obama and Ayers is very misleading. They weren't close at all.

RE: Barrack Osama???

"We have three different staff members who proof these things and somehow the typo got by us," Republican Rensselaer County Commissioner Larry Bugbee told the newspaper. "We really apologize."

Yeah right!

This reminds me of a common "mistake" that occurs in courtroom every day. For example, on cross examination a lawyer will say something inflamatory to discredit a witness knowing full well it will be objected to and the judge will instruct the jury to disregard the question. But, the seed has been planted in the minds of the jury and no amount of instruction can erase it.

This also reminds me of another truism "It's easier to apologize for doing a bad thing than it is to ask for permission to do it."

RE: back for the moment....

You sure it was a horse and not a Donkey?tongue

Just kidding comfort

RE: I feel Political mudslinging clouds real issues.

I sense a growing feeling among the masses that they are getting very tired of politicians attacking each other at a time when we are in the most serious economic crisis facing not just the U.S. but the whole world. It's a sad case that we find ourselves thinking that a recession would actually be good news when we are facing a depression.

I have a very good friend who lives down the road from me. She is a Republican and will vote for John McCain, I'm a Democrat and I will vote for Barack Oboma. This fact alone is what defines the problem with our political system since the birth of our nation. From the very beginning we divided ourselves into a "Party System". Left vs Right, not to mention North vs South, East vs West, black vs white, rich vs poor. That pearl of wisdom that states "United we Stand, Divided we Fall" seems to have been lost on our fourfathers. What unites me & my friend is, we are both Americans who love our country, we feel it when our young people come home in a body bag or missing limbs. We don't wonder if that person was a Democrat or a Republican.

We both want our leaders to work together to solve problems instead of fighting like a bunch of school children. We both work hard, pay our taxes and obey the laws of the land. We wouldn't even think of calling each other names or insulting or demeaning each other. Yet on a daily basis we are exposed to the dirty fighting going on by the people we hold to the highest standards of behavior but who fail by resorting to the lowest form of competition.

RE: I made it..

This is for Eric:

You are one lucky man! I hope you realize what a catch you made. Treat her like solid gold cause that is what she is. Never go to sleep angry and talk, talk, talk. You're a good man and you deserve a good woman.

Congratulations to you both.cheering

RE: Something bad happened

Getting the head of HR canned is no easy task. Who do you complain to? Best thing is just avoid her and think about number one first. Don't hurt yourself. Jobs are hard to get these days. Sooner or later she'll screw up.
BTW, did you ever think maybe she was hired to clean house?

Anybody got a spare room?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found this hilarious.

He might have a career doing stand up comedy. rolling on the floor laughing

Anybody got a spare room?

RE: Share Your Happy Poems/ Stories

To a peach

I planted your mother about 4 years ago.
I watered her and sprayed her and fertilized her.
In winter I pruned her dead wood
and clipped her errant twigs
I saw you when you sprouted as a bud
and then when you became a flower
I watched the bees as they caressed you
and sought nectar from you
you were green and hard as a rock
for months you grew bigger and bigger
now you are here and beaconing me
to pluck you from your mothers limb
You smell so sweet so soft and so red
I cannot resist
You are mine,
my reward for all my work
I want to save you but I can't
I must eat you lest you would rot
succulent peach,
you are worth all my efforts
I'm sorry beautiful peach but
you must die, that I might live

RE: TOTAL LACK OF CLASS, INDEED........

When will I learn not to jump into a cat fight? I posted some good info on the bottom of pg 13 if anybody's interested in reading it.

RE: TOTAL LACK OF CLASS, INDEED........

Here's a good news source for you.

"Voter registration is one of the key battlegrounds of this election although it is under the radar for many people as it operates through tables at shopping malls, campuses, and street corners, one voter at a time. Over 4 million new voters have been registered in key states this year, with the majority Democrats. In North Carolina, new registrants favor the Democrats 6 to 1. In Colorado and Nevada it is 4 to 1. Democrats are working overtime in cities, especially on college campuses and in poor areas. Republicans are working hard in rural areas and in senior citizens homes. Although Obama supporters will hate to admit it, a lot of the credit goes to Hillary Clinton. Her refusal to give up until the last dog died resulted in pitched primary battles in many states in April through June, with both sides registering thousands of new voters. But once registered, a primary voter can also vote in the general election. Because the Republican battle was over early, there was no analogous scramble to register every last Republican in the Spring."

Notice the normally very red state of Virginia. Obama leads McCain by 3%, and North Carolina also a very red state is in a dead tie. Democrats are leading in Florida & Ohio by 2%

McCains mantra of "I AM A BUSH REPUBLICAN" is coming back to haunt him and his stunt of picking that airhead running mate demonstrates just how bad his judgement is. Saturday Night Live's ratings are going through the roof.
