Like what, all i can otherwise read in here, is selfishness rubbish, constant discrimination based on a biased generated by political propaganda. The fore-mentioned boat people represent some thing like less than 3% of the annual immigration intake, they are people fleeing persecution of one form or another. I know they are not loaded up with cash so the greedy minded thieving motivated people cannot easily exploit them, that some probably don't speak English and probably in many ways they don't measure up to the Aussie inherited Pome, Irish, Scottish winging tradition they probably also lack whatever virtues (if any) the Italians, Greeks and Eastern Europeans brought with them, and certainly will lack the skills Kiwi's brought to the table. However they are human beings fleeing violence, persecution, hunger and poverty. Probably some would be fleeing wars this country and its allies politicians entertained themselves with. They are probably more accustom to living a lower standard than Martia dogs. Also probably they will be unaccustomed to submitting to the will of loose minded ladies who talk down to males. None the less they are your human brothers and sister asking for help, asking for a better life even if they are misguidedly asking a bunch of thieving lying scumbags
Its sad to listen to people on here attacking others based solely on there own preferred migrant intact status life experience. As there are many reasons why people flee from human rights violations to another country, i've done so myself, left NZ because of extensive human rights violations that country imposed on me. Clearly some people didn't read some earlier comments on the same subject matter previously posted in other threads. There are many reasons people are unable to apply for migration in there country of origin for entry into Australia. The queue jumping story is utter rubbish dreamed up and broadcast by politicians, who know darn well that is a emotive cabbage story-line in many circumstance is complete rubbish. They should be given a fair go, and politicians should not play political football games with there lives. Nor feed the sheep in the populous who parrot any old crap from the lying puffed up pus filled scum bag minister for immigration dreams up
I visited Vietnamese refugees in Malaysia at the time boat people exited Vietnam. The Malay government were shooting boat people off the beach. The Malay's had and probably still are caning refugees, i understand Gillard has been given an under taking by the Malay's they wont cane the refugees sent from Australia.
As far as people sending children away to a safer place from places like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Iran, Iraq how on earth can you blame there parents for doing that i really cannot comprehend
No you wonder why, feeding the children of America the karma's of rebirth as an Afghanistan, or other birth place where the karma they sow are being played out is why it can never be checked. you got the wrong way round Conrad
I had an opportunity to suggest to Australian government just prior to the intervention in Afghanistan that they could choose to or choose not to continue giving charity in feeding the Taliban's children. However America, Britain and Australia chose instead to drop thousands of tons of bombs on Afghanistan including on the children they gave food charity to... Pretty un-Buddhist but to my thinking would have been better than war
I believe engaging in violence leads to more violence, that a conflict was started in 1991, that a bunch lunatics took as a war against all of Islam. None of can say would otherwise would have occurred had Hussein continued on. Sentient Being\People, make karma by there activities and when the seeds ripen the karma's will appear. What you are saying to my mind Conrad, its alright to harshly judge the karma that others experience and engaging in a like sort of karma to combat that. I believe that, that sort of response creates seeds furthering the same karma. Just lets say for hundred and hundreds of years Buddhist like the Dalai Lama could be right and know what they are talking about, my interpretation is they are saying all sentient beings, including humans, create the seeds of there tomorrows by the actions of body speech and mind. That once the karma's have been created it is certain that the experience (bound up in time this life or next life) will follow. War after war, certainly throughout my whole life and that of my father also has changed nothing, they are still sending sons and daughters off to war and i think its time they listened to the views of others who disagree with that. To just poo-whoo a view that's been around lot longer than believe in one god story-line i think is not constructive. I am not qualified to teach the Dharma but you could if inclined search out a qualified person in your neighborhood and closely examine the school of thought, Lam Rim
Oh i dunno, i think its really sad to see troops being killed like that. But if you look at Iraq, its every bit as bad as under Hussein, now the Sunni in Syria are trying to overthrow the Shi'ite there. And although i understand its not your belief, i believe those troops killed are taking rebirth (by karma)in Afghanistan. By karma i believe they will take rebirth alongside those having the karmas of engaging in killing and being killed. I understand others might disagree with a Buddhist view, however i am very concerned that people are grieving, including in this thread, and its still going on and on. Its not possible to arrest the karmas of others using violence as you suggest. You can debate otherwise however i can only say i firmly believe cause and effect is certain and energy cannot be lost, will charge but never lost.
I agree the Taliban are a bunch of lunatics who engaged in complete stupidity and the Afghanistan insurgents that shot your folks down being forces who hold an opposing agenda to that of the NATO ground forces engaged in the conflict. For Allied forces to think they are righteous in using violence in an attempt to change the karma of people born with the karma of killing and being killed is just plain stupidity. Mankind has been trying that sort of venture for a long long time and at the end the karma's of killing and being killed will continue

I think its in the manner thy conduct themselves. Both the way treat and respect men and just there over all bearing, quite tentative open and honest, they stand out above other people in a crowd. For guys i think its instinctive awareness of her presents.
Save me answering the other comment below, has got nothing to do with IT appraisals of another person, which are never correct as far as my limited experience of meeting people offline.
And for what its worth Helen Clark is UN function holder responsible for the provision of finances in northern Africa. Also i make the point the Chinese have been pouring arms into the region and are building roads right up through all of Africa to.
I spent years traveling around the world. I also spent years studying, that doesn't mean i've learnt much but certainly have done my best to understand the nature of our shared human experience, including the Mahayana Buddhist view on the nature of karma.
I agree many people are in need of support including the basic's for life, and many are not getting it. Also that some efforts have and are being made to help people improve there life, grow food and other activities to improve there well being. Doing something meaningful to change the cycle of suffering is something else, understanding the causes seems to me to be a good starting point in understanding why.
I am trying to say the peoples karma is the reason they don't have food and it is the peoples karma they created rebirth in both circumstance
This thread is pasted under Religion, Spirituality & Philosophy, it asks WHY and referred to the hungry people in a war torn area. I responded to your question, doing so seems to have led shell to but in and criticize my answer offering her deluded understanding of Religion, Spirituality & Philosophy. To suggest teaching people in a Religion, Spirituality & Philosophy thread, that killing is something they should engage in displays to my mind a complete disregard for the welfare of the suffering people as it offers nothing towards addressing why people suffer those sort of karmas
The wars, flawed belief's is the cause, if promoters of the constant cycle of wars were able to understand better would be a big step in the right direction. Teaching someone to engaging in killing is the teachings of complete idiots
Just trowing money at the needy hasn't changed much, now there is another group of people with the karma to without food and of course we should make charity, give food and alms to those that need, but just doing so doesn't address the underlying cause
I'll try, Buddhist believe our true nature is *moving-energy (* karma). If we try to find a truly existent self "I" we cannot find "I" other than in interdependent's the "I" Rob is from its own side un-find-able. With our activities of body, speech and mind we are sowing the seeds of our tomorrows. We are creating merit (good, bad or indifferent) depending on the seeds that we sow. Long time ago i took a commitment if possible to eat one main meal before two or three o'clock because my body needs food for energy. But not because of my past habits. I had read the life history of Lama Zopa (spiritual head of the FPMT, my main teacher) and listened to an explanation given on the subject relating to the merit of having or not having plentiful food. Most humans don't. Lama Zopa spent his earliest days, scagging through rubbish to feed his mother and sister. We have food because we have the merit to have it. Goes to Karma, we sow the seeds and when the conditions arise the seeds ripen.
I mentioned Afghanistan as a demonstration, the people there are killing and being killed, Buddhist believe that experience comes about by karma, both individual and collective Karma. Enlightenment the goal of Buddhist people, is actualized studying the causes for suffering and applying a antidote. Karma to have food comes from our merit field, while we have rebirth in lands of plenty, we should restrain our greedy mind and not use up our merit for food. Moving energy is directly linked to the cause and effect of our activities including greed.
Atisha took the Buddhist teachings to Tibet, prior to that some embassies had traveled from Tibet to India but not returned. Atisha went to Tibet and taught the Tibetans
I went to the Vietnam War because my country asked us to go there to contain Communism, that what we thought we went there for. To say the troops didn't do there job would be quite misleading, its the bloody lying politicians that turned tail and ran away after the Tet Offensive 1st February 1968 (was in Saigon at the time) the bloody politicians were always lying they with in the main Catholics trying to prop up the Popes rubbish and when they worked out the Vietnamese took there Embassy (I witnessed they did) and they couldn't win they ran away. Now China threatens to rule the world with its communist crap and everybody seems to have there head in the sand. Its not the faults of the soldiers, the politicians motivation was contaminated with delusions
The Dalai Lama taught in Mongolia not China THEN Buddhism under the communist rule (1921-1990)
Communists took control of Mongolia in 1921 and committed violent purges in every aspect of the culture. The worst persecutions started during the late 1930s when tens of thousands of monks and ordinary believers were executed, monks were forced into lay life or worked to death. The vast majority of monasteries, temples and religious objects were destroyed during these years of the communist purges and Buddhism was all but obliterated.
Mongolians were systematically conditioned to view the Buddha Dharma as an undesirable remnant of their cultural history, something backward, superstitious and contrary to all ideals of progress and modernity.
Harry S. Truman and Kennedy cranked up the Vietnam War that effected lots of us. They created S.E.A.T.O. trying to prop up the attempts the Popes were making to install Christianity in Asia proper. THe domino theory you allude to hadn't even been thought of when the Catholics invaded Vietnam... The domino theory was a theory during the 1950s to 1980s, promoted at times by the government of the United States, that speculated that if one state in a region came under the influence of communism, then the surrounding countries would follow in a domino effect.
I don't appearing as a fool to some one who clearly knows nothing about Buddhism or the reason behind the Vietnam war, your talking lot of rubbish. And i don't if you continue to think a fool better to be foolish than dumb. France occupied all of Vietnam by 1884, Catholics tried to impose there rubbish over predominantly Mahayana teachings. Final declaration, dated July 21, 1954, of the Geneva_Conference on the problem of restoring peace in Indochina, in which the representatives of Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of Viet-Nam, France, Laos, the People's Republic of China, the State of Viet-Nam, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the United Kingdom and the United States of America took part.
In case you feel inclined to better knowledge about the interdependent arising of the Vietnam war, follow link, the information on the was put there by somebody who first hand experience and is in the main comprised of NEWS HEADLINES
