Why Every Single Should Learn to Social Dance

For many people, single life can be an amazing time for self-discovery. On the other hand, it can be a lonely experience which may seem to never end. For anyone who is stuck in a rut, social dancing is a great way for singles to have fun and learn something new. Salsa, swing, Argentine tango, and other popular social dance styles can turn anyone's life into an adventure.

Having a better social life is one of the biggest reasons people learn to dance. Social dancing requires a lot of touch and close contact, so it is natural for people to make connections. Unlike a bar or nightclub, getting intoxicated is frowned upon in social dance communities, so it is a great way to genuinely get to know someone and not rely on any "liquid confidence."

The relaxing atmosphere is another attractive aspect of social dancing. Many people don't like the level of competition that is present in bars and nightclubs, as it can become aggressive, and in many cases, unsafe. Trying to meet someone in such an environment may also lead to a lack of money as well as various regretful life choices. For these reasons, many singles prefer to attend dance lessons or singles dance groups which are generally in safe environments where everyone shares a common interest aside from getting wasted.

Greater self-confidence is one of the main benefits of social dance. Learning to dance can be scary, and the anxiety of feeling judged can be hard to overcome. When taking dance lessons, every student is learning and no one is expected to be incredible. Communities of dancers are understanding about this issue, since everyone has had to overcome this fear at some point. Eventually, with practice, any inexperienced student can have something to show off.

In addition to greater self-awareness, people who learn to dance often discover unrecognized talents or rediscover forgotten ones. Being able to dance can be one of the most valuable skills a person can have. With a sense of community and greater self-confidence, it is no wonder that dancers rarely find themselves alone.
