We have an 'ant' problem...

That's what it sounds like. A man and woman talking about their new house and the only problem is the ant infestation. Actually, it's not ants, it's aunts and it's a GEICO commercial!

Frozen Tofu...

I try to get to the Asian Market in Miami twice a month as they have products not found in the local markets. Tofu, for example comes in larger bricks and less expensive than anything in my neighborhood.
It was on sales and we got a few packages. If you have read my previous comments, I dislike Tofu. It has to be cooked with other foods or I will avoid it entirely.
Since we had so much, one package was stored in the freezer and when it was time to use it, thawed and drained. Also, it's a good idea to actually rinse it before cooking.
Here's what I have found. After freezing, the Tofu becomes spongy. When it's cooked with other foods, it readily absorbs the flavor of the other foods.
Sunday, it was Tofu with steak and mushrooms. If I didn't already know, I wouldn't have guessed it was Tofu and the flavor and texture changed. No more thinking Plaster of Paris was added to the recipe!

Trump's cash crunch...

Two weeks ago, it was reported Trump's campaign was exhausting funds at a rate where they would run out of money weeks before the election... a time where money is most needed for the last push before the election.

I guess the person/people in charge of spending weren't planning this too well.
Tonight, I see a Bloomberg story that says: "Big GOP Donors Come Off the Sidelines to Fight Trump Cash Crunch" and the donations in the millions come tumbling in.

I didn't understand the mindset of funding a campaign to a man who has been through a few bankruptcies, is running up the deficit and doesn't have sufficient cash to fuel his reelection.

Knowing all that would make me nervous about voting someone who isn't good with money... especially when it's not his money.

I'm chatillion and I approve this blog...

Another productive weekend coming to an end and I'm in YouTube overload mode. Earlier today I did some Jimi Hendrix research and in the suggested video list was the band LEVEL 42. I only knew them by their hit song 'Something About You' and some 'slap style' bass guitar videos of bassist Mark King.

This live concert taped in Holland, February 2009.
I'm enjoying it and maybe you will too!

Vocal cord nodules...

I was listening to a YouTube documentary about Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant yesterday. In the video, they mentioned him having surgery to remove vocal cord nodules and that the news wasn't widely publicized.

Common to many singers who have had this type of surgery, it often changes your voice. Some singers recovered and some have had to change their style as their singing voice was totally affected by the surgery.

It was noted by true fans somewhere around 1972-1973 Plant cut back on his high-octave wailing and screams in live concerts, possibly as a result of the surgery.

I Googled and found a long list of professional singers who had vocal cord issues including cancer, polyps and burst blood vessels. For example, Rod Stewart's throat cancer surgery set his recovery back more than nine months.

I'm unable to find any stories on Sting having vocal cord surgery. A decade ago he was doing acoustic versions of Roxanne and 'eased up' on the high notes but in this 2017 performance he's done a great job of holding it together.

Mommy, I have to make number two...

I used to think it was universal that parents taught their young children number one was pee and number two was poo, but some kids just point to the front or back!

Whacked in the Gulf... again

Hurricane Sally strikes the Alabama coast this morning as a category 2 storm with 105mph winds, landing right between Mississippi and the panhandle of Florida.

According to the National Hurricane Center, "The slow-moving storm could dump up to 35 inches of rain in some areas."

It'll start getting cooler...

We all know COVID-19 didn't miraculously go away when it got warmer.
It won't miraculously go away when it gets cooler.

As far as the California wildfires...
Don't expect the weather getting cooler to have any effect.

Keyfob aka the lump in my pocket...

My car is equipped with a keyless entry system. To make it work, I have to have the keyfob remote entry transmitter with me. I approach my locked car, put my hand in the door handle and it unlocks the car. It's programmable that only the driver's door unlocks or I can specify the other doors also unlock.
This keyfob is 4 times larger than the one on my previous vehicle, probably because it has more technology packed inside. If I want to leave the car running and run into the store for something... forgetaboutit, the car begins to beep letting me know that the keyfob is out of range. Actually, it beeps if I step out to open the hatchback. That feature is on my list of annoying safety features.
I always keep my keys with me as I learned from a coworker's trouble many years ago. He had a habit of leaving his keys everywhere but his pocket. Assigned to a project where he could leave his tools overnight. The keys were on the top of his rolling toolbox. He and his helper were the last out of the building that evening. The door locked behind them and no way of reentry. Realizing the keys were inside, he panicked. They had to go to a pay phone to call me and I was lucky enough to get security to unlock the building for him to retrieve his keys.
I'm not liking the lump as all my keys are on it, but I haven't figured an alternate way around it.

Steven or Stephen...

Not to offend any one named Steven or Stephen. Pronouncing names differently than their spelling isn't a strong point of mine. If you spell your name Steven I'll call you 'stee-vin' and if you spell your name Stephen, I'll call you 'steff-in' but... maybe that should be 'step-hen' I don't really know.

There must be some European origin to the name Stephen that says it should be pronounced 'stee-vin' and stranger to that is using the nickname 'Steve' for someone who spells their name Stephen. Hey Step, how ya doin?

While I'm at it, Sade is usually pronounced 'sha-day' and not Sadie or 'saa-dee'
