Dinner tonight came by way of Pollo Tropical restaurant.
They are a Miami Based company with dozens of location around south Florida serving Cuban style citrus marinated grilled chicken.
One of my favorites is their Cilantro Garlic sauce with lime juice. I've tried to find this product in the grocery store like Olive Garden... but no luck. Since COVID-19, they removed the drink and condiment stands so you have to ask and they will give out their sauces in tiny cups (with lids) so no one has gets to use the pump dispenser like the old' days.
I did ask if it's available in larger quantities and the cashier said, it's made fresh in each store and a large containers can be purchased.
$4.00 for a cup that's about 14 ounces. Deal!
No... I'm not addicted. I need more time for that.
Tonight was my first try making the cilantro lime salad dressing in the style of Pollo Tropical restaurant.
The sour cream was too thick an wouldn't turn in the blender, so I added more lime juice.
Oops... too much!
Some recipes call for cream cheese.
I added 2 lumps of cream cheese that helped to thicken the mixture.
It's still pour-able soft with bubbles from the blender.
I'm hoping the refrigeration solidify it and will get the bubbles out.
The flavor was okay, maybe a bit to tangy... too much lime juice.
When I was a little kid I was told that dog food could be consumed by humans and it was on the law books to protect people too poor to afford 'people food'. Most of the information I heard was that dog food contained meat by-products. I take that to be ground bone, intestines, scraps of gristle, fat, cartilage and organs.
As I look back, I'm guessing most of that was something of urban legend with a high level of bovine feces. It wasn't important enough to research or dispute. I do remember a friend with a young child who was playing with the family dog and the two of them got into a bad of dry dog food. The toddler was snacking on the stuff and experienced no ill effects.
Today in the news I see the FDA recalled pet food after 28 dogs died.
According to the FDA, three brands of Sportmix products for dogs and cats made by Midwestern Pet Foods may contain potentially fatal levels of the toxin aflatoxin.
That article included a photo from one of the bags that reads NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION
Until they sort out the FDA recall, they should be labeled NOT FOR ANIMAL CONSUMPTION
I've probably been to 8 or 9 dentists in the last decade. My preference is someone with a small practice. One guy in his 60's was in business at least 30 of those years with 2 chairs. Him and the hygienist. I tried a few times and was unhappy with his work. Searching the insurance list of available dentists, I selected one in large office that appears to be part of a corporate franchise with several locations. 6 chairs and lots of people flying around the open corral. I tried a dental college and several chairs in one room appears to be normal.
Covid-19 comes around and I postponed cleaning a few times. I had a piece of filling and tooth chip off a molar months ago and needed to have that resolved before infection gets in and a root canal specialist would be added to my list. December and I need to use use insurance benefits this calendar year.
Earlier this month, I had the tooth prepped and the mold sent to the lab for a crown. Yesterday, I returned for the second part.
With all the previous dentists, they do a similar casting and then cover the tooth with a temporary -- I'll call it a temporary, but mostly it's a soft pliable material they form over the tooth like putty or bubble gum and in a few minutes it hardens. When the crown comes from the lab they have
several tries of grinding and fitting before the final step of gluing it in place. Usually after it's in they test for 'bite' and have to grind down a few high spots. I used to think this was normal.
The dentist I'm using now did 2 crowns for me over a year ago and they went in perfectly. Yesterday was the same. The temporary was a copy of the crown so the fit and feel was like a normal tooth. The assistant tested the crown and it clicked into place. The dentist didn't need to grind or reshape anything.
This dentist is on a whole new level compared to the previous ones.. old or new.
She said, not to chew on that side for at least an hour and most likely there will be a little sensitivity for a few days. Yesterday, there was some throbbing and pain from cold drinks. Aspirin took care of that. Today it's barely noticeable. When I run my tongue over the new crown it feels like a normal tooth.

I have to laugh as I once had a dentist name Bravo.
I was out running errands and saw a guy walking his dogs. Not your usual breed. These were Greyhounds. Two of them with long leashes and he was jogging enough for them to do more than a trot. If I decide to get a dog again it might be a miniature Greyhound.
They are so sleek that they appear to be moving when they're not!
For years, gambling and dog racing has been legal in Miami and my dad used to make frequent visits one of the many tracks. My (first) wife and I went once to see what it was all about. I suppose you have to spend time going over the dogs and history to make a good choice. I really had no interest in the sport.
On the way out of the parking lot we saw trucks that were used to transport the dogs. There could be as many as 8 cages per truck. Each cage was designed to hold one dog and the lockable doors had louvers for ventilation.
Out of curiosity, we got up close and could hear some of the dogs inside their cages.
Some young kids from the neighborhood gathered around one of the trucks and you can hear their excitement as one kid remarked "Dems racin' dawgs"
Hearing that, my wife and I laughed and to this day if the subject of Greyhounds comes up, you can be sure one of us will say "Dems racin' dawgs!"
Trump hasn't acknowledged he lost the election and Joe Biden will be the next president. In the past 2 months I've blogged about him needing to relocate and his inability to seek residence at Mar-a-Lago. Contractually, he is limited to 21 days per year. It been reported by media he abused that by visits of 130 days this year.
I also mentioned he would likely take (rent/buy) some luxury home nearby Mar-a-Lago.
Entertainment Tonight aired a story this evening saying the Trump's were shopping real estate in Palm Beach because their suite at Mar-a-Lago was
much too small and seeking something else in the area.
Correct me if you think I'm wrong.
The size of the suite is irrelevant... He cannot stay at Mar-a-Lago.
They did interview the listing realtor who said they were looking at some nearby places including Lago-a-Lago. We are talking about $20 million and up.
Too small huh? If that's the real issue, no problem... I did some quick research on the area and found 2 beautiful possibilities in the range $41 million 10,500 square feet to $64 million 15,200 square feet on A1A facing the Intracoastal Waterway, only 5 blocks from Mar-a-Lago.

No, it didn't snow there. Cocaine was found in 'bricks' floating in Federal waters down in the Lower Keys. According to the Monroe County marine patrol, it was a find of about 74 pounds that was turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.
It was noted a fisherman actually spotted the cocaine and notified the marine patrol. Yeah, he turned it over.
That part of the story sounds 'fishy' to me. How did the fisherman know what was floating in the waters?
There appear to be 26 wrapped packages (in the photo) or around 2.8 pounds for each package. I'm not a dealer, nor do I play one on a TV series, but I would guess each brick would/should have been packaged in one-kilo bricks... you know, so it's easy to do the math!

Be safe, don't let your guard down as COVID-19 will be here all holiday season. While some experience flu-like symptoms, it's life threatening illness to others. No one I know has the clout to be hospitalized 4 days with round-the-clock cocktails and medicines to combat the effects of this virus.
Hopefully with vaccine this pandemic will fade away.
In the mean time, masks, social distancing, frequent sanitizing. And remember, that horrible smell when you wear a mask is what others experience when they are close to you!
