Guns in schools...

Right after every school shooting, both sides of the 'gun' issue think they have the answer.
In a previous blog I stated nothing will get fixed. No one has the answer and if they actually did, the issue would get 'shot down' by the side who disagrees with the solution.

Repeating my comment from that blog:
My prediction: For or against, nothing will happen. Nothing will get fixed.

Doing some research, I found a few sites that explain some current gun laws and how it affects schools. There are variances from state to state, but basically (other than security and law enforcement) possession of a gun in a school is a crime.

Uvalde, Texas massacre has so many errors and why the police didn't confront the shooter. I read "there’s no doubt some of those children bled to death while waiting for police to make entry"

One of the possible solutions that's been kicked around for years is to arm the teachers.
Personally, I think that's a bad idea and just to be sure, I asked a security guard who is a retired police police from New York and also served in the U.S. Army for his opinion on the subject.
His reply: "Bad idea, very bad idea"
Before I could ask for an explanation he was offering a few details.
He explained that Military training lasts for months and as a soldier you live the job.
Police academy last for months and while it's a job, you have to be mentally conditioned to fulfill the responsibility.
Teachers aren't allowed to discipline unruly students and now you want to arm them?
Consider the enormous liability he said. You have to train every teacher to accept the position of security, issue weapons. Where do they keep the guns...? lockup?
His sister-in-law would give her resignation. She's a teacher and not security.
He went on to say, there are lots of retired cops and former military who are suited for positions as security and not some overweight guy with a gun and keys who is one notch above janitor.

I agreed with him. The only guns that should be allowed in schools would be in the hands of trained professionals hired in security positions.

The issue is will something actually be done?

PET/CT Scan...

Mentioned in and earlier blog, it's been years since I visited a cardiologist. All my hypertension prescriptions were written by my primary care physician. I'm not feeling any anxiety, symptoms of pain or that I have heart trouble, but sometimes heart attacks come without warning. The smart thing is to be proactive and see a cardiologist.

My cardiologist started off with a heart scan using ultrasound and that test was a few weeks ago. A second test was for stress. We're all thinking it's the test where I'll be on a treadmill with oxygen tubes and electrodes running 'for my life' while some technicians are monitoring my condition.

Last week they called and told me what to expect... it's not the treadmill test, it's a PET/CT. That means I slide into a tube scanner, similar to an MRI machine/device and they scan the heart with an injection of dye for imaging contrast first. After that scan, they they inject a drug that dilates the blood vessels and re-scan. They warned me the effect would make me feel weird. That wasn't the correct word. Within a minute I began to feel like I wasn't getting enough air and my breathing increased to the point of heart pounding, extreme headache as though I was climbing stairs but my body was at rest.

I was told caffeine would help get over the symptoms so I stopped for coffee and a sandwich. The test required fasting for 12 hours before and it was a good idea to eat some food before I pass out!

Four hours later and walking around has me feeling like I did 2 months ago when I just started doing morning walks... as though I exercised on the first day.
I did some research and it appears to be a side effect that will soon pass.

Tomorrow is the followup with the cardiologist and I'm hoping the results are normal.

Live Coverage...

A friend texted me to watch live coverage of The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol now holding its first primetime hearing.

Cheney appears to have done her homework...

More to follow.

Grifter...

Grifter is a slang word that describes a person who operates a side show at a circus, especially a gambling attraction. Also, grifters are known to be swindlers as in dishonest gambler, or the like.
(stated in dictionary.com)

I caught a video interview last night with Michael Cohen calling Trump the greatest grifter in the history of the United States. Some people on CS would not believe that title. Whatever suits your perspective. For years I said he was a 'world class' con artist, but grifter is classier title.

Blog killah...

It could happen to anyone... post a blog that gets a fair amount of comments. Then one person (often a troll or someone who rarely comments to blogs) becomes the blog killer by dropping a comment, like a fart in an elevator. Everyone drops dead and the blog fades into the sunset!
There must be a scientific explanation why this occurs, I know I don't have that answer...

Burial at sea...

There once was a famous huge floating restaurant in the Hong Kong harbor. It was 260 feet long and had been there over 40 years serving Cantonese cuisine to more than 3 million guests.
I'm unsure if it's technically a boat or barge, but it was closed in 2020 due to the pandemic and the company laid off all their staff. This became a financial burden to the owners/shareholders, although it was closed, they were spending millions on maintenance and inspections. They decided to have it towed to a new lower-cost location. Prior to the departure, the vessel had been thoroughly inspected by marine engineers and all relevant approvals were obtained.
On it's way to the new location the restaurant encountered 'adverse conditions' and water entered the vessel making it tip. Unable to right-side it, the restaurant capsized in the South China Sea at a depth of over 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) making salvage works very difficult to carry out.

My thought... was this 'Burial at sea' really planned as a financial write off?

"This is President Trump's ONLY Official Birthday Card," Trump Jr. wrote in his email. "So make sure you sign THIS ONE and not the other fake ones out there."

Other fake ones? If I read that correctly, that is a fake one too!

Didn't I say it's all about the money?

Don't take my word for it.

Say goodbye to Internet Explorer...

Today is the official day that Microsoft discontinues support for Internet Explorer in Windows 10. Hard to believe, but IE has been around nearly 27 years and now and it's fading away.
Microsoft Edge has been the replacement for some time now. To help with a few compatibility issues, there is an IE mode in Edge that will be supported until 2029, so if you really need IE on a site where Edge doesn't function, a working version is in the background.

Rarely did I need IE and have been using Firefox for years. Although it's buggy at times, I'm most comfortable with the interface. I tried Safari, but it lacked features. Except for a zoom magnification feature I liked, I stopped using it.
If you are using Google products, I would expect you to be married to Google Chrome, simply because it goes hand-in-hand with many of the Google add-on products, especially things used in business. It's operation is seamless, especially with cloud based applications.

In the event it removes a file (or files) I may need in the future, I don't plan to uninstall IE. I'll only delete it from my taskbar. Out of sight, out of mind.

A cure for cancer...

Over the years, I blogged about curing cancer many times. Always my thought is why is it taking so long? Answering my own question... cancer is illusive. Hundreds of different cancers that affect people differently. This requires specialized treatment.

A friend and former coworker I've known for 30 years had prostate cancer that required about 8 weeks of mild radiation treatments a few times a week. He beat it, so far. Musician Frank Zappa, wasn't so lucky. Stage 4, he died.
I lost a friend to pancreatic cancer. He received aggressive treatments knowing that only 7% beat this one.

I want to speculate a larger percent of the healthcare field is involved in cancer treatment in one way or another. That means kids going to med school studying oncology knowing their future is secure as no cure has been arrived at. Or has it?

Recent studies are showing cure rated as never seen before.

Okay... POOF! a cure for half the forms of cancer is found and it's not expensive to produce. Does that mean drug companies have cart-blanch to charge anything they want without government intervention? Follow the dream and people are being cured as 'alarming rates' I say alarming as less hospital stay, less medical staff, less in nursing homes, less need for med students getting into the field that deals with cancer.

A prediction is within a few years the entire medical industry that thrives on income from cancer treatment will be collecting unemployment, driving for Uber or loading trucks for Amazon deliveries.

Maybe that's why it's talking so long to find a cure...

I like the song(s) but I don't care for the artist(s)

There are loads of great songs performed by less-than great artists when judged solely by their personalities or lifestyle.

I'm starting off with David Lee Roth, the on and off front man for the mega rockers Van Halen.
David would walk in front of (upstaging) other members during interviews. Talk about a big ego... Like a rock star with a cocaine high. He was always over the top and extremely annoying. His attempt of a solo career had lots of highs but mostly lows. His voice wasn't lacking, I'll guess it's probably due to his personality.

Teamed up with Steve Vai on guitar, this song rocks!
