Funeral...

I attended a funeral today for the mother-in-law of a friend who shares the model aircraft hobby with me and a handful of other friends. The woman's health was failing and they were making plans for her to stay with them. Things changed and she was hospitalized. From there it was a downward turn. Hospice was called in for the final few days.

We all know my friend's wife, but none us met his mother-in-law. About 5 of us attended the ceremony. It was the first time I've seen them in 'nice clothes' as we usually meet on weekends wearing shorts, sun glasses, baseball hats and athletic shoes. The mother was in her 80's and nearly all the folks attending were over 60. Friends and family made for a pleasant reunion. My friend and his wife were appreciative we were there for support.

Listening to those who gave testimony about the woman and her life, it appeared she was into photography and famous in her city for following many of the sports teams starting from high-school into college. I believe her photos were used in amateur sports publications locally.

Now that she's gone, her 2 children will clear her house and get it ready for sale. The realtor they selected had the house appraised and made a list of items that need to be brought up to code so there will be no complications in making a sale. Expected to sell for above the appraised value, this is no surprise for nice houses in South Florida.

My friend and his wife are content in the house they currently own and will probably pay off the mortgage with the inheritance money. I would think the rest would be for some investment when the time is right!

Summing things up, the pastor said "Betty is in a better place now..."

Your daily dose of Donald... 10-14-2022

Less than 24 hours after the house select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot had another televised meeting yesterday that called for Trump's subpoena, the ex-president responds. He's submitted a 14 page document stating the 2020 presidential election was rigged and stolen.

Your daily dose of Donald... 10-9-2022

I've been busy lately and apologize for not keeping up with the 5 or 6 new Trump stories that hit the news channels daily. There's so much stuff that it boggles the mind. How a 'one man hurricane' can muster up so much attention.

More documents?
The last few days there has been talk that not all the documents were seized from Mar-a-Lago and there must be more. I read a comment The Guardian took video of Trump directing the loading of at least 9 boxes to a private plane at the West Palm Beach airport. The manifest was to fly to Bedminster New Jersey. It's believed they are maintenance staff at Bedminster Club and they know where the boxes are.
It wouldn't surprise me if the DOJ serve him with more search warrants to search his New York offices, clubs and other residences.

Billboard 101...

You're on the highway doing 65 mph (or more) and there are billboards along the side of the roadway. That gives you 2 or 3 seconds to catch a glimpse of 'what's on the sign' before reaching another sign. A photo, 10 words and a phone number is probably more than you can capture. If the sign company allowed a business to put more (shit) on a billboard, they failed you. Unless you video record it or pull over (both dangerous) to get the information that billboard isn't useful.
Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale has a huge flyover where the ocean meets the inlet. Small sailboats can pass under the bridge. There's a billboard about a local hospital with a summary of their accomplishments. I used to travel that highway on a daily basis and cannot tell you more about the sign because the words are so freaking small. Who has the time to read a paragraph at 65 mile per hour!
Point made?
Actually, I've see some work trucks for screen graphics companies with so much 'graphics' you cannot read the company name and phone number. It's all distorted into the graphical artwork.

Good example. You know what they do and the phone number is easy to see:

Bad example. Graphics too large and the phone number isn't visible from the side.

Microsoft is spying on me...

New computer this week running Windows 10 Pro and updated Microsoft Edge started some things I didn't notice on my older computer it replaced.
I'm online making a purchase and when I get to the cart to review, banners fly out to show the same items elsewhere at a lower cost.
Amazon and Walmart, but the savings were less than a dollar per item.
Since my purchase with this vendor has free shipping over $100, it makes no sense to break an order up to 3 vendors. Kinda like spending a dollar to save a dime. Triple billing, triple deliveries, triple order tracking.

Actually, the annoying part is Microsoft getting into my online purchasing. It may have been there in my previous computer (running Windows 10 with Edge) but I never noticed the banners before.

My computer is spying on me...

Highly educated, but...

It's amazing to see the number of women on CS with a master's degree making less than $25,000. Many cannot type a coherent sentence.
Highly educated, but... a waste of money.

Herschel Walker’s memory loss...

Herschel Walker is running for office. The position is the Georgia senate. His party is Republican and it's important for Republicans that he gets this win. His stance is anti-abortion. Digging into Herschel Walker’s past, finds a unidentified woman claimed he paid for her abortion years ago. She produced a receipt from the clinic and his get well card.
On video, he denied knowing of such woman. Less than 2 weeks later, it was revealed, not only did he know the woman, they had a child together.
Trumps is supporting Herschel... well, he was and is now laying low waiting for the dust to settle.
Other Republicans need this all-important win. So, they don't really care about his shady background as he's made claims for other things that he cannot substantiate.

Walker is a former American football running back who played professionally 12 seasons and I found it funny someone commented he must be suffering from head trauma and PTSD.
Herschel... they're on your side no matter what you have to bring to the table. Forget about moral fiber, Christian values and all those cool phrases. Don't worry about the claims of domestic violence, the four children from four different women you sired. All that should be a good background for a politician, especially with zero background in what's involved holding a position in public office!

Hopefully, you won't forget other issues so important as who's your daddy, baby momma or whatever they call it.

People around the world are laughing about the latest comments Trump made on the Hannity show. The pathological liar has reached new heights, making Rudy look like an amateur!
"I declassified everything"

Stephen Colbert's monologue on the subject was absolutely hilarious.

If it's not broken... don't (try to) fix it.

I should heed my own advice about changing out old computer parts. Two computers failed last month and are being replaced. The good thing is the hard drives are intact and I'm able to save most of the data contained on them.

Unfortunately, some licensed programs I got free cannot be replaced or would now require payment.

I found a 2gig spare video card and installed into a spare computer I haven't used in a while and now, it's giving error messages. The drivers are updated but I'm unable to troubleshoot... for lack of time. It's quicker to remove the video card and revert back to the onboard video.

I tried removing 4 gigs of RAM from a dead computer and put into a computer with 4gigs expecting 8 gigs... it won't boot now, so I reverted back to a working computer with 4 gigs.

If it's not broken... don't (try to) fix it.

Okay, Okay... no more swapping parts and upgrades... for today.
Tomorrow is a different story!

They must be lying to me as many people I come in contact with think I'm (much) younger than my real age. Thinking back more than 40 to 50 years ago would I have envisioned I would look this way now?

I've been slowly getting around to a project of setting a scanner and computer for archiving old photos and saving them to a few hard drives as some of the oldest family photos date back to 1920ish with my grandfather and grandmother's portraits in sepia or black & white that was hand painted to appear like a color photograph.

People say I look like my dad and comparing myself to photos when he was in his 60's has me with more hair, but him having less grey. The only other significant difference is his nose was larger. Thanks mom!

DeSantis and the Migrant Flights to Martha's Vineyard...

Different versions of this story keep popping up and the reader reactions are wildly opposites.
As a Florida resident, I see lots of media about our governor Ron DeSantis. That too has wildly opposite opinions about him. Months ago, I predicted he was being groomed to run for the 2024 presidential election and it appears he does lots of attention getting schemes to be seen and heard.
The most direct effect I've seen from him was being instrumental in getting vaccine distribution to many of the 55 and over communities. People around here still bring that topic up and as far as I see, he's liked for support of the elderly.

Recently, he's part of convincing Venezuelan asylum seeker undocumented immigrants from Texas to sign up and they will be transported to Boston in the Northeast where they will be offered housing, food and cash assistance. Pamphlets were printed in English and Spanish explaining the benefits and what was in store for them.
The plan was misrepresented as the immigrants ended up not where they were told, they would be relocated, instead they were placed (dumped) on the resort island of Martha's Vineyard in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

DeSantis claims responsibility for this. He also had the help of a former U.S. Army combat medic and counterintelligence officer Perla Huerta. Both of them are in the news.
Why? It would appear he's forcing an issue that nothing is being done about illegal immigration in the United States. The migrants became political props for his actions.

Ron... I think your point was made. One fatal part of your plan was to use funding from a different budget and transport/traffic asylum seekers across state lines.
I'm reading that lawsuit against you could cast a shadow while you wrangle out of this.

Sure they filled out consent forms before boarding on a plane. I think the word is duped.

She makes $350K a year and lives paycheck to paycheck...

I'm reading a story on Market Watch redirected from Yahoo! Finance about a woman who cannot get her finances in order. Her gross salary is $350,000, she's got $88,000 remaining in student loans, $170,000 in car loans and a mortgage of $4,500 a month.
Her question is "Do I need professional help?"
My answer is yes... but not from a financial advisor... Lady, you need help from someone with a degree in mental health.

Before finishing the story, I jumped to the reader comments to see what the other readers thought about this woman's situation. I'd say she wasted money on her education... they didn't teach her common sense.
