Ketanji Brown Jackson...

News this week: Senate confirms Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, making her the 116th justice and the first Black woman to serve on the top U.S. court.

51-year old Jackson will replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer, 83, who was confirmed to the bench in 1994.

Flash Bang...

In an attempt to deter vehicle (or contents) theft, a guy rigs his truck with an explosive set to go off when someone gains entry and tampers with the interior.
Described as a loud, non-lethal triggered deterrent set up in the center console of the truck.

He installed surveillance video to capture the event.

Intended to scare off a would-be thief, it's one of those 'Don't try this at home' events, because the owner of the vehicle would be liable should the thief actually be harmed.

Yeah... that reminds me of the shop owner who was tired of thieves getting into his store via the roof mounted air vent. He wired the interior grill so that someone trying to remove it (and gain access into the building) would get an electrical shock and back off. Unfortunately (for him) it sent 120 volts through someone completing the circuit and the guy fried like a hotdog in a toaster oven!
He was sued by the dead man's family.

The death of Aunt Jemima...

No, she wasn't my aunt, but her death bears great significance. Breakfast won't be the same without her. I do pancakes once a month and the large box I had was empty last week.

I headed over to WalMart to buy another box and Aunt Jemima disappeared. In her place were boxes by Pearl Milling Company. I never heard of them before this. They have the audacity to say Original. Original what? Original copies of Aunt Jemima?

I'm annoyed by this... So what's next?
I guess you'll be saying Uncle Ben died too...

Ron could be in jail the rest of his life...

Every few weeks, there is a news story update about Ron Jeremy, former porn star who was arrested a few years ago and it appears they have thrown away the key!
He's got a schlong long list of offenses and Ron could be in jail the rest of his life...

Held without bond, he's got some 30 criminal counts pending against him.
A few weeks ago he requested that each case be handled individually.
Today's news is the case against him be suspended as they now question his mental health.

According to his attorney:
"Six weeks before the start of a trial on charges that he sexually assaulted nearly two dozen women, Jeremy, 69, was unable to recognize his attorney, refused to get into his wheelchair and was generally "nonresponsive" inside of a cell at a downtown L.A. courthouse."
So now, the Judge agreed to pause his criminal case and scheduled a mental health competency hearing for April.

Good luck Ron... but it looks like you'll be needing more than luck to survive this one.

The year of the -ologists...

When people feel okay, they tend to avoid doctors. COVID comes around and all normal visits get cut to nothing. Maybe you... and maybe me.
I haven't seen a cardiologist in a least 5 years. There's a 3 month wait. I'm on a list to see one. Hearing? I went to an audiologist (I think that's the right word and not someone who listen to music a lot) to have my hearing checked. Urologist... I'll get to see one before summer. Pulmonogist, twice this year. Proctologist, first time ever. Neurologist, this month. I've had my eyes checked twice for prescription glasses... there must be an -ologist name attached to that profession. Later this month, I'm scheduled to see an opthamologist.

All of these doctors are covered by my insurance. I say "Let's dot it!"

14-year old boy falls from a 430 foot theme park ride...

It must have been 2 weeks ago when the news came through about a teenage boy falling from a ride. Honestly, I skipped over the story. What went through my mind was a thin runt of a kid (like the young Tom Hanks in the movie BIG) who was too short to get on the ride and somehow they let him pass.
As usual, as more details surface, the story intensifies.
This 14-year old 'boy' was 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 340 pounds.
In metric that's 195.58cm and 154.22kg.
For comparison, that makes him significantly larger than the average man!

That FreeFall ride has a maximum weight of of 287 pounds, making the boy 53 pounds over the limit and a forensic investigator has been hired to understand what happened.
(I think I already know what happened)

This story won't be over any time soon... I expect the next article to describe a team of attorneys... from both sides!

The only food that hasn't been affected by inflation...

Seafood and steak in some places are now double. Some vegetables are coming in around 40% higher. We all see it and we all feel it. The dollar store items are now $1.25 but the only thing I've found that hasn't gone up in price are the mini-pies at Walmart.
Fifty cents for as long as I remember...

Open relationship?

She wanted an open relationship. I agreed, picked up her purse and handed it to her. Opening the front door, I pointed her the way out!

I'll trade ya...

As a kid, I had friends who would trade things. For example, baseball cards, marbles, 45rpm records.

In the 70's, I was in a band with a guitarist who had a faulty guitar and it was affecting our ability to (as a band) to make money. We came off a tour of Canada and I went with him to a music store to buy a Fender Stratocaster. He tried all of the ones in the store before settling on a black one with a rosewood fingerboard. His mom helped him buy a house and the money made from music was barely enough to pay the mortgage. The plan was I'd buy the guitar and he would repay me with a portion of gig money. That didn't happen and I ended up with the guitar.

I'm left-handed and it was a right handed guitar. I know it didn't stop Jimi Hendrix from playing one upside down but another guitarist wanted it and offered to trade a reel-to-reel tape recorder so I accepted.

I'm more inclined to give things away and not trade for something.

I don't follow sports, but I hear in the news all the time about sports players being traded to other teams. Depending on the perspective, I guess it's a good and bad thing.

As part of my job, I do have to negotiate with clients, general contractors, associates and upper management. There is always a give and take to make things work.
Yesterday, I had a meeting with a client and contractor about my cabinets in the bathroom and how the designer wants the walls wrapped in tile. I didn't like the way it was planned. The contractor agreed. I gave-in to include full panels (instead of fillers) where my cabinetry meets the wall. It's more material but an easier installation for both my company and the tile installer. Win-Win.
I wanted a design change in another area of the house and they went along with my request. Fair trade.

So this month, long-time member Harb who is on permanent bad returns. Similar to a cat with 9 lives, but it doesn't take long for administration to find out and pull the plug on his alias... POOF !! he's gone... again.

I always thought he was entertaining with his sarcastic humor. Lots of banter, even if he did cross the line with some members. A ban is a ban with no hope of parole.
Honestly, he does much better for CS than lots of other members. Often, if there's a change to be made, people will sign a petition in hopes of creating a change. Workers to a boss, citizens to a government. Michael Cohen traded some information to get his sentence reduced. Different examples all parts attempting a trade.

Let's suggest a trade to management. I could think of a handful bitter/angry members who could be easily traded for the return of one Harb. Kinda like a prisoner trade to a foreign government.

I'll trade ya... what a great idea !!

Ginger Baker's Air Force...

I was heavily influenced by the 'supergroup' Cream. When they disbanded, drummer Ginger Baker teamed up with Traffic singer, guitarist, keyboardist Steve Winwood to form Blind Faith. I played some of their songs but I always felt 'something was missing'.
There must have been 10 of those guys who played 'revolving doors' with recording sessions, touring and short lived band lineups.
I was fading away from music when I heard that Baker started a group called Ginger Baker's Air Force. That was around 1969.
Somewhere I read it was a mixture of jazz and African music. I wasn't interested and all these years later I never took a good listen to his music.

Tonight it popped up on my YouTube list. Okay, I'll take a listen...

Taylor Hawkins dead at 50...

This comes as a total shock. If you know the Foo Fighters, Taylor was their drummer.
Details are sketchy but it's said the band was on tour in South America. They finished a gig at a Festival in Argentina and scheduled to play Friday in Columbia.

I didn't see any updates to their website:
