Family...

I bought a car last month and the salesman sent an email to welcome me to their family. The dealer did the same. I'm also 'in the family' of the car manufacturer and getting requests to join the family of the satellite radio service.
Part of 'being family' is some of them want me to install apps to my phone and divulge (more) personal information so that they have instant access to me and my communication devices.
I've been listening to the satellite radio introductory broadcasts knowing they are free only for a few months. They know I'm listening and I received an email from them to confirm it's really me. I'm sure requests for more information will follow and I'm sure to ignore them.
Every time I start my car there's a disclosure statement. I've got stickers on the header explaining my information is being transmitted to a remote source. Under the dash is a wireless phone charger and I'm reminded (on the screen) that my phone is not connected to the car. Thanks, but no thanks. I have no intentions of installing apps and connecting my phone to the car.
Time permitting, I'll have to get back to reading the owner's manual. Maybe there is a chapter on becoming an orphan without any family!

interracial dating...

Interracial dating is a touchy subject for many.
I have no emotion about it either way!

Something is fishy here...

Once or twice a month, we used to go to an Asian market in Miami. A competitor with a much larger store opened about a mile from the first one. They have better selections and we started going there. Now that I'm more than 40 miles away, with no other reason to go to Miami, we skipped those hour-long trips each way.
Today we visited another store (by the same owner) in Fort Lauderdale. It's less distance but it takes longer driving through city streets and not highway like the Miami trip. The selections are the same and this trip we got a fish that looks like something of pre-historic origin that Jacques Cousteau would have brought up from the deep ocean floor.
Nearly 3 feet long like an eel, it was coiled up in the bag.

I'll know in an hour or so if it was worth the trip!

Logically illogical... be afraid, be very afraid!

I got a laugh from a video posted to a recent blog. It shows a side of people who create opinions not based on any fact. Two generations ago, TV host Art Linkletter would ask children questions and show their (funny) views on topics that were about 'life' in general.
Usually, it's a reflection of things they see their parents do and not something that comes from an outside source. I'll repeat... usually. Unless there is an outside (educational) source, those opinions most likely will stick with the child and be a part of their personality as an adult. Not part of this blog... I think being a racist is taught, often by parents.

My first marriage had associations with a sister-in-law and her husband. We were all in the same age group and often went to the movies together. They had a young daughter... probably 4 years old at the time. We went to see The Fly (1986) a remake of the 1958 classic and they brought their daughter along. Too young for a movie like this? I think so.
Although it was Science Fiction, a strong part of the remake was a love story.
A botched experiment has the DNA of the scientist mixed with a fly that was in the booth during a test of his teleporter. At the end of the movie, the human side of the fly, signifies to his girlfriend to use a gun to end his life. Suspense builds and she hesitates...
At that point, my niece blurts out "Shoot the damned thing!"
The laughter in the theater was overwhelming and I know where she got 'the damned thing' from.

My thoughts are shifting to possibly several blogs in one but the video had several politically motivated 'on the street' interviews and one guy had pinned Obama for a big part of 911. "Never in the office" was a comment of his. I suppose had Obama been president at the time, being in the office would be of significance. For the record, George Bush was president and he wasn't in the office at the time. I recall a secret service agent interrupted him from a meeting with school children to whisper something in his ear. The guy with the strong (incorrect) opinion to Obama's whereabouts is most likely a registered voter. Be afraid... be very afraid.

Hey! remember all those people (with no medical degree) claiming COVID-19 is just a virus with less potential of death than the flu? Many of them are first to bring up the bad idea of using nursing homes for COVID-19 quarantining as it infected patients and staff there. Well, if it's ONLY a potent as the flu, then logically, it should be a non-issue.

My thought is logically, many people stick to knowledge and opinions that are illogical.

Hurricane Isaias...

It's a reality that hurricane Isaias currently over Bahamas will be headed for Florida.
Yesterday was sunny and bright and today the weather has deteriorated and expected to get worse as the day goes on.

Projections are that Isaias with 85 mph winds will skirt the east coast of Florida early Sunday morning. At the time of writing this blog the path is the eyewall of the storm will be less than 50 miles offshore with it's closest point just north of the city of West Palm Beach... where you can find Mar-a-Lago, home of president Trump.

With all forecasts there is lots of room for error and a degree or two toward the west has Isaias striking Florida around Boca Raton to Palm Beach. The best part about hurricanes, due to temperature changes are often the weakest in that time.

Mystery seeds...

People all around the United States have received mailer packs from China containing seeds. These packages are unsolicited and come with no explanation. The USDA urges anyone who receives a package, not to plant them and notify their state plant regulatory official to investigate.
Suspicions are seeds could be an invasive species that could introduce disease or destroy native crops.

I wonder if they are the...

a COVID-19 birthday party...

A while back I did a blog about an old guy returning from a hospital stay with a respiratory illness in-time for a birthday party where he struggled to blow out the candles on his cake.
No one caught my hidden warning about eating cake he coughed over.

Every day there are stories about parties and family reunions where large groups of people go away and later a high percent of them show positive for coronavirus.

Part of my retirement was to take time off and travel. Those plans are on hold.

As far as going to any birthday parties... Should that happen (low, low chance) I'll ask them to put the candle(s) on a cupcake, blow the candle out and don't touch the freakin' cake!

Hangnail...

Last weekend I was carrying a car battery in a plastic case and cracked a fingernail. It was right up to the skin and I didn't want the hangnail to break off... so, I put a tiny amount of super glue on the nail to bond the loose piece back. Naturally, it only lasted a day and I had to trim the nail and redo the super glue treatment... twice.
It's a good thing my nails grow fast and I was able to trim the nail short getting past the part that was repaired.
Normally, I keep my nails less than 1/8" but when I'm busy (read: lazy) they are twice that. I know it's beyond the limits of 'good grooming' but... so be it.

Years ago, I worked with a lady who was from the Caribbean and took cosmetology in school. Part of her training was nails and hair. A few times I was the client (read: victim) so she could practice her skills.

At the time, I was doing drafting work with paper, pencil, erasers and plastic triangles. She trimmed my nails so short I couldn't pick up my tools. It was a few days like this until my nails grew out enough to pick up the triangle and thin metal erasing shield.

My brother used to bite his nails... nervous habit? Probably.
What a creepy feeling it must be not to have nails.
I would equate that to cutting a cats whiskers.
Let's see how far he could get sneaking around the bushes in pursuit of a bird.

That new car smell...

Unfortunately, that new car smell comes with payments.
My previous car died and I had to make a quick decision or pay for extended rental.
While everyone said buy something 2-3 years old, I know I'd have have repairs right around the corner. Tires, brakes, battery come up at that interval.
Should there be unseen issues, shocks, struts, transmission, a/c would be on the list.

Fake Cake...

There appears to be a culture of artists making cakes decorated to look like other foods and things...
This one comes from Sideserf Cake Studio and they also have tutorials how to make them.
