The Firing of a weather lady

This is a local news item in my town and it involves a television station that I was employed at from 2002 through 2013 so this in my mind is blog worthy.

KSWO-TV let an employee go yesterday, a very skilled meteorologist. My understanding is that she was let go over this little game they have played every morning for the past several years. The solved puzzle was “Hang in there” and included a drawing of a noose.

A viewer complained to the station and the weather lady was promptly fired.

This station I will add also airs 'The View'.

My question to you is this.
Is this firing justified?

Could Brexit be the catalyst to finally unite Ireland ?

All signs point to a "no Brexit" exit from the EU for Great Britain. Opposition from conservative members to some of the major issues - including the prospect of a "hard" border between Northern Ireland the republic - will probably doom the vote to accept the Brexit agreement negotiated by Prime Minister Theresa May. Come March 29, Great Britain will be out of the EU whether there is a deal in place or not.

The proposed "backstop," which would allow time for a solution to be found to Northern Ireland's border, is unacceptable to many in the conservative party because it would trap Britain in the customs union until 2022. Inevitably, many experts think that in order for their to be a "soft" border between the two Irelands, there must be a hard border between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

One possible solution would have been unthinkable a decade ago. Could Brexit be the catatlyst to finally unite the two Irelands?

Tradition and politics says no. But over the last 20 years, the mostly Catholic Republic of Ireland has become far more secular. Once one of the most Catholic countries in Europe, the republic changed the constitution in 1996 to allow for divorce, and just last year, a referendum changed the abortion law. Meanwhile, the Protestant north has lagged economically behind the republic as free market reforms instituted in the 1980s have made the Republic of Ireland an attractive spot for international business.

While Northern Ireland burned, Ireland put through in the 1980s a series of supply-side tax reforms. That made the country an attractive base for multinational companies. As reported by the Belfast Times, Ireland’s output is today almost 45% higher than in the North. Average salaries are 30% higher. The North is plagued by weak underlying productivity.

Northern Ireland’s unionist-nationalist power sharing arrangement has failed to produce a functioning government. British taxpayers subsidize Northern Ireland with aid totalling 12 billion euros a year. That is nearly 50% more than the 8.6 billion annual bill for membership in the European Union. The British long to shed both these millstones. So why not give Northern Irish citizenry a push toward union with the South.

Which brings me back to Brexit. Some 56% of Northern voters joined only Scotland and Greater London among UK regions voting to remain in the EU. Recent polls suggest support for “Remain” in the province now exceeds 60%. Like the Irish Republic, the North sees its future as part of Europe. Full integration with the South would only grow the economy faster.

Cover songs

Cover songs can be good or not so good depending on your taste in music and the quality of the song being remade. A friend of mine yesterday put this song on my Facebook timeline and I have to say it is one of the best remakes I have ever heard, To top that off the band doing the remake is from The Ukraine and their English is near perfect. Without further ado, enjoy Leonid & Friends doing Chicago's 25 Or 6 To 4.

Corbyn Vs. Omar, And The Battle For Anti-Semitism

With allegations of anti-Semitism swirling within the Democratic Party, many are comparing the increasingly radical American Left with the Labour Party of the United Kingdom.

Led by Jeremy Corbyn, the Left-wing party have been embroiled with their own scandals, with many members of the party (including Corbyn) accused of being anti-Semitic, or enabling the spread of anti-Semitism.

There are multiple similarities between the anti-Semitism of the radical elements of the Democratic Party and the Labour Party. While vile “classic” examples of anti-Semitism exist, the majority of high-profile criticisms are related to anti-Semitic rhetoric thinly veiled as “anti-Israel.” Both Corbyn and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) have supported the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement, spoken in support of terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah, and used anti-Semitic tropes on multiple occasions.

Additionally, many supporters of anti-Semites within the Democratic Party or the Labour Party have refused to acknowledge that anti-Semitism exists within their ranks, preferring to focus on the claim that anti-Semitism is exclusive to the political Right. They willingly ignore that, while anti-Semitism clearly exists on the radical Right, it has yet to become part of the mainstream Right. The same cannot be said of the Left.

With these similarities in mind, alongside Europe’s dark history of anti-Semitism, it is understandable that many are using the spread of anti-Semitism in the Labour Party as a warning for the Democrats. Many political commentators are concerned that Corbyn’s brand of anti-Semitic Leftism will penetrate the American Left.

This concern, however, is actually the wrong way around. The spread of anti-Semitism in the Democratic Party is far more concerning than in the Labour Party. While both forms are undeniably despicable, and the Democratic Party’s form of anti-Semitism is younger than its counterpart across the Atlantic Ocean, the American Left’s anti-Semitism is being given the tools to thrive.

The reason for this is that the anti-Semitism from the likes of Ilhan Omar has been completely embraced by the mainstream elements of the Democratic Party, as well as by many among the mainstream media. House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) effectively prostrated herself at the feet of anti-Semitism by making absurd excuses for Omar. Other high-profile members of the Democratic Party, including several presidential candidates, have rushed to the defense of their anti-Semitic “allies.”

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, the Labour Party is being torn apart by an internal struggle against systematic bigotry, alongside constant pressure from the mainstream media. Just recently, several Labour MPs resigned, forming their own Independent Party in protest of the widespread anti-Semitism which is being allowed to fester. Labour MPs and members have spent years condemning Corbyn and his anti-Semitic associates, supported by Jewish groups on both sides of the political aisle.

While Corbyn is publicly and vocally vilified for his revolting views by members of his own party, the Democrats are rushing to Omar’s side. Despite voicing clear views of hatred toward an ally of the United States (and the only democracy in the Middle East), she remains on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Despite her repeated use of anti-Semitic tropes, there have been no resignations, just disingenuous attempts at defense or deflection. The Democrats can’t even agree that anti-Semitism is worth condemnation, after playing their own “All Lives Matter” card by suggesting that we should condemn “all hate.”

It’s Cheaper To Buy Every American A Ferrari Than Fund The Green New Deal

For the cost of implementing the Green New Deal, the federal government could buy every American a brand new Ferrari luxury sports car, according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“For the comparatively cheap price of just $66 trillion I’m told the government could buy every American a Ferrari,” McConnell said on the Senate floor Wednesday.

McConnell is basing this cost comparison against a recent report by the right-leaning American Action Forum (AAF) that estimated the cost of the Green New Deal to be as high as $93 trillion over ten years, or $653,000 per household.

“What a great idea. But of course, everyone would have to get their drive in before Democrats ban the internal combustion engine,” McConnell quipped about buying every American a Ferrari.

McConnell joined other Republican lawmakers who took to the Senate floor to criticize the Green New Deal, which calls for radically transforming the U.S. economy to fight global warming and dramatically expand welfare and “social justice” programs.

“93 trillion is more than every dollar our federal government has spent in its entire history to date,” McConnell said, referring the AAF report.

“It’s more than the combined annual GDP of every nation on Earth,” McConnell said. “This amount of money could rebuild the entire interstate highway system every year, just for the heck of it, for 250 years with a little left over.”

McConnell said the Senate would be voting on the Green New Deal in the coming weeks, sparking outrage from Democrats who called the vote a political stunt. Many Democratic 2020 presidential candidates support the Green New Deal resolution introduced by New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey.

Despite this, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is looking for ways to shield Democrats from having to vote on the Green New Deal. Schumer plans an “offensive” to make climate change a top issue in the 2020 , turning it against Republicans.

“This is the first time Democrats have decided to go on offense on climate change,” Schumer told The Times in an interview published Monday.

Schumer also plans on holding weekly floor speeches on climate change, and pressing Republicans to vote on an alternative climate resolution that calls on Congress to immediately act on global warming — as opposed to making specific demands, like the Green New Deal.

However, Republicans will make sure the Green New Deal will continue to be brought up through the 2020 elections, tying Democrats to policies they see as “socialist.”

“Cars, lawnmowers, commercial airliners, everything must go,” McConnell said.

Pelosi Demands Trump “Not Run” For Re-Election; “Do The Country A Favor”

Nancy Pelosi is reveling in her glory after retaking the powerful Speaker Of The House position following the midterm elections last November and is drunk with power as she pursues her vendetta against President Trump.

The aging Pelosi is surrounded by her cadre of socialist enforcers led by media sensation Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. It was just this week that AOC showed how things are going to be done when she actually threatened moderate House Democrats with punishment for going against the glorious leader.

In addition to AOC, Pelosi’s snarling attack dogs include extremist freshmen Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley who despite their inexperience, were all handed positions on the powerful committees that will be tasked with launching a plethora of investigations against Trump and his associates, many of whom will be hauled in front of McCarthyist tribunals like the Michael Cohen hearing last week.

While she has clearly exhibited multiple signs of dementia, Pelosi has arguably never been more powerful and enjoys the protection of a corrupt media that has become a propaganda machine that runs 24/7 to brainwash Americans by delegitimizing Trump and those who voted for him while promoting an authoritarian socialist party and glorifying the Mueller-led police state that it will rely on to stay in power.

Pelosi’s posse is chafing at the bit to get about the business of impeaching Trump because they can’t beat him legitimately next November and the soon to be 79-year-old has thrown down the gauntlet calling for a complete surrender from her nemesis.

The Speaker and her commissars were the subjects of a cover story in the far-left Rolling Stone magazine along with a video extra, during the shoot Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez decried Trump and demanded that he NOT even bother running for reelection.

Liberal Russian “Collusion Delusion” and more.... From CPAC

President Trump spoke at CPAC on Saturday and blasted the Deep State and the Mueller witch hunt as “bullsh*t.”

“We had the greatest of all time. Now we have people that lost, and unfortunately you put the wrong people in a couple of positions, and they leave people for a long time that shouldn’t be there. And all of a sudden, they are trying to take you out with bullsh*t, okay? With bullsh*t.”

The crowd went wild!

Prepare to See a Whole Lot More of Don Jr.

Donald Trump Jr. was perfectly at home.

It was day three of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, commonly known as CPAC, and hundreds of activists had piled into a ballroom to hear the president’s elder son speak via live-stream. He was slated to have a conversation at Liberty University with the school’s president, Jerry Falwell Jr., though it was unclear, exactly, what that conversation would be about. While most other CPAC speakers were constrained by specific topics, such as “Protecting the Freedom of Jerusalem” and “Deficit Hawks: An Endangered Species?,” Don Jr.’s appearance was headlined on the agenda as simply “Live.”

But that was, in many ways, the point. Over the course of Donald Trump’s presidency, Don Jr.’s profile has skyrocketed. Much like his father, his draw has become based not so much on what he has to say, but on his presence alone. The 40-year-old emerged as one of the Republican Party’s most coveted surrogates in the lead-up to November’s elections, headlining more than 60 events throughout 2018. “He’s a great spokesman for his dad,” one rally-goer told McClatchy a few days before the midterms. “He punches back. I love that style and apparently it’s working.”
