Why Aren’t Democrats Walking Away With the Midterms?

The night Donald Trump was elected was supposed to be, for most liberals and a few conservatives, the beginning of the end of the world. The economy would surely implode. The U.S. would probably blunder into a catastrophic war. The new American president would be blackmailed into conducting foreign policy as Putin’s poodle.

None of that has happened — not yet, at any rate. On Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported the fastest rate of annual wage hikes in almost a decade, depriving Democrats of one of their few strong arguments about the true state of the economy. Unemployment is at its lowest rate since Vince Lombardi coached his last game in December 1969. The North American Free Trade Agreement has been saved with minor modifications and a new name.

Oh, and: The Islamic State is largely defeated. Tehran has not restarted its nuclear programs despite America’s withdrawal from the Iran deal. U.S. sanctions on Russia are still in place. Democrats badly damaged their chances of taking the Senate with their over-reaching and polarizing crusade to stop Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. What more could Trump ask for?

In normal presidencies, good news, along with your opponents’ mistakes, is good politics. It’s your Topic A. In normal presidencies, the politics of cultural anxiety, social division or ethnic scaremongering — that is, of proposing the end of birthright citizenship and demonizing elite media and militarizing the U.S. border — is Plan B. It’s what you turn to first when you don’t have enough to say for yourself otherwise.

But that’s not how the Trump presidency rolls. In this campaign, fear is what’s on the Republican menu. Peace and prosperity? Mere side dishes.

The mystery of Donald Trump is what impels him to overturn the usual rules. Is it a dark sort of cunning or simple defects of character? Because the president’s critics tend to be educated and educated people tend to think that the only kind of smarts worth having is the kind they possess — superior powers of articulation combined with deep stores of knowledge — those critics generally assume the latter. He’s a bigot. He’s a con artist. His followers are dumb. They got lucky last time. They won’t be so lucky again.

Maybe this is even right. But as Trump’s presidency moves forward, it’s no longer smart to think it’s right. There’s more than one type of intelligence. Trump’s is feral. It strikes fast. It knows where to sink the fang into the vein.

This has been Trump’s consistent strength from the moment he entered the Republican race until the second he got wind of the migrant caravan. Yes, his administration doesn’t even have an ambassador in Honduras, and if the U.S. has any kind of coherent Central American policy it would be news to me. Also, the idea of deploying thousands of U.S. troops to repel and even fire on the caravan is repellent, fascistic and probably unlawful.

Still, several thousand people are pushing their way to the U.S. border with the idea that they will find a way to push their way through it. If they do, tens or even hundreds of thousands more will surely follow. It’s perfectly reasonable for fair-minded voters to wonder how the U.S. will vet and then absorb even a fraction of them (though I think we easily can), and what doing so will mean for our wider immigration system.

Florida Recount Finally Wraps Up, Al Gore Declared President

FLORIDA—As Florida finally wrapped up its contentious recount of the votes tallied in the recent midterm elections, a winner was finally declared: Al Gore is now the president of the United States.



The recount process at long last found the "missing votes" that would have handed Gore the presidency back in 2000, making him the official president of the country.

"Well, it's about time," Gore said in his acceptance speech. "Thanks to all the fine people that made this happen. It really is too bad that the earth is going to be destroyed by fire by 2015--err, I mean, 2019, or else I could really savor my presidency."

Gore will be granted two terms as US president, ousting President Trump and canceling the 2020 election. "We just assume he would have won again and ushered in a liberal golden age," said an election official. "So he's got 8 years to reclaim his lost time. Make the most of it, Al, and great job. You deserve it!"

Three statewide races in Florida are headed to a recount and all depend on results from a county whose supervisor of elections has a history of losing ballots and breaking laws by allowing illegal immigrants and felons to vote, as well as illegally destroying ballots.
Broward County supervisor of elections Brenda Snipes’ office has admitted “they don’t know” how many ballots there are still to count.

Snipes’ latest failure to finalize Tuesday’s election returns days after the polls closed is also in violation of Florida law, which requires elections officials to “report all early voting and all tabulated vote-by-mail results to the Department of State within 30 minutes after the polls close. Thereafter, the canvassing board shall report, with the exception of provisional ballot results, updated precinct election results to the department at least every 45 minutes until all results are completely reported.”

Trump Promised America First – and That's Exactly What We’re Getting

Make America Great Again. President Donald Trump's rallying cry during the campaign season a couple of years ago will forever have a place in history. To him, it was more than hyperbole. He really did promise to restore America and prioritize the nation's needs. So far, he's doing a pretty good job.

What Does It Mean to Make America Great Again?

Let's briefly take a look at two quotes:

This country needs a new administration with a renewed dedication to the dream of America, an administration that will give that dream new life, and make America great again.

And...

I ask you to give me your hands and your hearts. To give me your prayers and your help. I believe that together we can make America great again. And with your help, your heart, your devotion, and your efforts, we can build a community of hope that will inspire the world.

Do you know who made these statements?

If you answered Donald Trump, you're mistaken. The first quote is attributed to Ronald Reagan in a Labor Day speech in 1980. The latter quote belongs to none other than Bill Clinton in his 1991 presidential announcement speech.

At the time, these quotes were met with astounding positivity. People on both sides of the party line had no issue with these words of hope and positivity. Yet, over the past few years, as Trump has made these words the battle cry of middle-class America, the notion has arisen that returning American to its greatness is somehow an offensive idea.

"That message where 'I'll give you America great again' is if you're a white Southerner, you know exactly what it means, don't you?" Clinton said during the 2016 campaign season as his wife went head to head with Trump for the presidency. "What it means is 'I'll give you an economy you had 50 years ago, and I'll move you back up on the social totem pole and other people down.'"

See, somewhere along the way, leftists decided they'd flip the script on what it means to make America great again. Instead of acknowledging what it genuinely means – to restore America's financial stability, business growth, national security, and social standing in the world – they've tried to turn it into a racist statement full of hatred and vitriol.

While Democrats have spent the last couple of years in an echo chamber – yelling "racist" every time Republicans put forth an America-first policy – they've actually become tone-deaf. From the outside looking in, they don't seem to want what's best for America. Instead, they intensely desire to be "right." To them, being right is all about proving that, somehow, Donald Trump is a racist mistake of a president. But at this point, there's nothing to suggest that this is true. In fact, an objective look at the accomplishments under his leadership proves the exact opposite.

TRUMP CONSIDERING COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN THE BORDER — NO ASYLUM

President Donald Trump is reportedly considering shutting down the U.S. border from illegal immigrants trying to flee to the U.S. from Central America.

The Trump administration is drafting an executive order that would pause entry for immigrants traveling from countries in Central America due to national security risks. The administration is also considering sending around 1,000 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, The Washington Post reported. This comes as a migrant caravan of nearly 10,000 people from Central America travels through Mexico, headed toward the U.S. for asylum.

“The administration is considering a wide range of administrative, legal and legislative options to address the Democrat-created crisis of mass illegal immigration. No decisions have been made at this time. Nor will we forecast to smugglers or caravans what precise strategies will be employed,” a White House official told NBC News.

News broke Thursday that Secretary of Defense James Mattis is expected to deploy hundreds of U.S. troops to the southern border to assist Border Patrol. Trump has repeatedly mentioned he will send U.S. troops to the southern border to stop the caravan, calling it a national emergency on Twitter Thursday. While the exact plans have not been finalized, sources tell NBC News that Trump will have the executive order ready by next week.

9 Things to Know About Birthright Citizenship

President Donald Trump’s announcement that he’s considering an executive order on birthright citizenship has raised questions and much interest in the 14th Amendment. Here are some the basic things you should know about birthright citizenship.

1. Universal birthright citizenship is a misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment (“All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”) and is inconsistent with the intent of the amendment’s framers.
2. Based on the legislative history at the time, the 14th Amendment’s framers intended to give citizenship only to those who owed their allegiance to the United States and were subject to its complete jurisdiction, primarily the newly freed slaves, who were lawful permanent residents.
3. Owing allegiance to the United States and being subject to its complete jurisdiction means being “not subject to any foreign power” and excludes those only temporarily present in the country.
4. Most legal arguments for universal birthright citizenship point to the Supreme Court’s 1898 decision in United States v. Wong Kim Ark, which challenged the government’s decision to deny re-entry to a U.S.-born child of foreign nationals who were legally present and permanently residing in the United States.
5. Wong Kim Ark stands only for the narrow proposition that the U.S.-born children of lawful permanent resident aliens are U.S. citizens. It says nothing with respect to the U.S.-born children of illegal or non-permanent resident aliens.
6. In the famous Slaughter-House cases of 1872, the Supreme Court stated that this qualifying phrase was intended to exclude “children of ministers, consuls, and citizens or subjects of foreign States born within the United States.” This was confirmed in 1884 in another case, Elk vs. Wilkins, when citizenship was denied to an American Indian because he “owed immediate allegiance to” his tribe and not the United States.
7. American Indians and their children did not become citizens until Congress passed the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924. There would have been no need to pass such legislation if the 14th Amendment extended citizenship to every person born in America, no matter what the circumstances of their birth, and no matter who their parents are.
8. Neither the Supreme Court nor Congress has clarified that the U.S.-born children of illegal or non-permanent resident aliens are U.S. citizens; federal law (8 U.S.C. §1401) simply repeats the language of the 14th Amendment.
9. The president has the constitutional authority to direct executive agencies to act in accordance with the original meaning of the Citizenship Clause, and to direct agencies to issue passports, Social Security numbers, etc., only to those whose status as citizens is clear under the current law.

Caravan Of Liberal Americans Makes Way Toward Socialist Paradise Of Venezuela

MEXICO—A migrant caravan full of leftists desiring to enter the socialist paradise of Venezuela departed the United States Thursday and began marching toward through Mexico, stating they will demand asylum so they might experience the far better life that socialism offers.



The migrants claim they are leaving America because of its high standards of living, strong economy, and record unemployment, and hope to find a better life in Venezuela's much more equitable system.

"Everyone there has the same quantity of possessions and food," said one marcher. "Everyone makes millions of dollars, and very few people work. It's a real paradise." The refugees have complex motivations, but the vast majority simply want to see everything socialism has to offer after suffering the amazing benefits of capitalism for too long.

Caravan organizers dispelled rumors that they were funded by Bernie Sanders, claiming the caravan was an organic grassroots movement.

At its current pace, the caravan is expected to arrive just in time for Venezuela to run out of food entirely.

REPORT: Trump Approval Rating Much Higher Than Media Wants You To Believe

It’s another fake news moment by the Establishment Media. They know it. You know it. Certainly, the Trump White House knows it. Remember all of those polls in 2016 declaring Hillary Clinton the winner? They were repeatedly slanted, skewed, a sham of an attempt to convince Trump supporters to stay home and assure Clinton voters of certain victory.

Since Donald Trump’s stunning Election Day victory, this same Establishment Media continues to try and convince Americans he’s a far less popular president than he actually is, once again setting themselves up for some major eating crow moments in the coming weeks.

Despite the overwhelmingly negative coverage of his administration, President Donald Trump’s approval rating is as high or higher than half of the previous six presidents at this point in their first terms. You won’t believe who scored better.

Trump has been enjoying a rare string of good news. The economy is humming and the jobless rate just hit a 49-year low. Trump won an intense battle over Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court. He secured a replacement for Nafta. His poll numbers are edging up. And Republican prospects in the midterm elections appear to have improved.

But according to the Gallup Poll, Trump’s approval rating as of his 632nd day in office was 44%.

Is that good or bad? That depends on the context. Trump has never polled well. Gallup had his approval rating at 45% the day he took office.

The mainstream press focused intensely on Trump’s initial rating, which was well below those of any president since Gallup first started tracking this in 1945.

Even Gerald Ford’s approval rating 90 weeks into his accidental presidency was 71%.

But the press lost interest in such comparisons as time went by.

Perhaps one reason is that, by this point in their first terms, approval ratings for most presidents had declined. Sometimes sharply.

As a matter of fact, Trump’s approval rating is now higher than, or tied with, three of the past six presidents at this point in their first terms.
