In case you were wondering

Silly screen names are not unusual here, but here's the inspiration for mine.

Pyramidal in construction, Hoober Stand is roughly
30m (100ft) high and almost devoid of architectural
ornamentation on its exterior, the true dignity of 18th
century craftsmanship being preserved for the interior.
The walls ascend perpendicularly for around 4.5m
thereafter tapering inwards, a shape which has been
interpreted by some to represent England, Ireland and
Scotland preserved under one crown. The optical illusion
created by this form of construction gives the impression
that the building is leaning, and although the cupola is
situated over the centre of the tower, it’s position seems
to move from side to side as the visitor’s angle of approach
changes.

Okay, so you weren't wondering. sigh

But you might have been. moping
Well - I wasn't wondering, but it's interesting.

I thought maybe you'd picked up a half dozen Scrabble® tiles & arranged 'em to make a word.
laugh

cowboy
-I wonder if you would get the same impression if it had been built the other way arround...?confused

-nice rock anyway. grin

Hoobie...if you were looking for a leaning tower you could have chosen Pisa? dunno laugh
looks like cut limestone how old is it around here are lots of buildings like this not as big but same stone lots built in early to mid 1800 hundreds
You can't kid me, mic, I bet the curiosity was burning away at you.
Who can say, viking? dunno
But I don't live just down the road from Pisa, daniela.
-you could ask Hoober?dunno
18th century, john.
You're on the right track, Blue. thumbs up
Asking Google would be more productive, viking.
Hoober, I wasn¨'t wondering at first, but now I am: are you former Harbal?

Tell the truth!

"Okay, so you weren't wondering.

But you might have been."

I knew, having spent 10 years as a delivery driver in the area myself in the 70's/80's

Nice one Hoober!
mine is for someone who puts the M in mischief........uh oh
I'll have to refer you to Cat's answer to that question, Tule. wave
Yes, I'm familiar with the contraption, EX.
Good advice, Cat. thumbs up
And I am often delivering in Chesterfield, indorman, it's a small World. cheers
Whatever the reason for your choice of music, WhatYouHad, thank you.
I like your brand of mischief, M4. hug
Now that's interesting! Am very glad you posted it as I thought you were a very distant relative of Mr. Hoover. cheers
No, LucyMaud, I think my closest distant relative is my great, great, great granddad, but he wasn't called Hoover.
So sir, you are saying that the true beauty and dignity is on the interior of Hoober writing
My tower leans too. Woman have always been in awe-yeah.
Well I would say that, molly, but only if I could say it without seeming to imply that those qualities were absent on the outside. sigh
You'll be telling me next that it's a well known local landmark, proc_42. roll eyes
The exterior of Hoober is strong and regal and has stood the test of time with little visible damage.

P.S. you owe me a pint for that beer

Well it does drag on the ground from time to time but the well known part, probably not.
Proc, you should charge people to visit your natural wonder of the world.

Oh a catch that idea, that's illegal.
If you were to see me in bright sunlight, molly, you would consider yourself owed several pints for that. cheers
Probably have to pay them to enjoy the phenamena, oh yeah, that is illegal also. Oh well, guess it will have to remain undiscovered treasure.
I'm torn between suggesting dusk and the pints.
Undiscovered treasure is priceless, yet ultimately useless.
Yeah, useless is not so bad. Don't have to meet unrealistic expectations.
Then just think what it must be like to be both discovered and useless, molly. uh oh
