My comment as an outside observer is that because the "sky didnt fall" during 2016 to 2020 whats the problem? How's it looking now?
Do you mean the American People or the American State (the ruling political organisation in a country - polity. See Wikipedia if unsure)
The State rules and controls the people. Every State Employee who has decision making power is a part of the State, Politicians, Law Enforcement, Military, and all the abbreviations. You might include State controlled Businesses and Corporations that strongly influence the decision makers.
If you mean the People then the elections will decide and polls will give you an indication of the popularity.
If you mean the State, well the current ruling Politicians clearly don't.
However it would be more appropriate to ask what external influences there are. Trump is indebted to external influencers and was supposed to win a second term. He even had a backup plan which was hatched in 2018 - the "stolen election". Why do you think he was so desperate to win. He has no alternative but to run again and win. This is not over.

Also, felons are not barred from holding elected federal office(There is a big exception though).
