About frozen food

Done my bulk shopping only days ago so all my freezers nicely full to the top very happy

I've had people staying with me over the past few days and Saturday night one turned off all my switches without realizing he had just unplugged my freezers. None of the food had thawed but it was unplugged for 8hrs all the same... not too sure about the food now, should I still chuck it out all the same dunno

A lot of money gone down the drain if I must sigh
so I'd really rather not ...
but I know, health wise must come first.... so anyone know for certain help

No don't , but I remember one humorist/entertainer of ours at NRK (national television)
went to italy and for joke he brought a norwegian frozen pizza (our pride haha)
to make them italian pizzeria employees have a taste. Yes, politely they pretended it was good....
This pizza had been unfrozen more than once, and nobody got sick as far as I could see.

I'd throw out any seafood.
It depends on the food and what temperature it got to.

If none of it thawed at all, you're fine.

If there was some thawing/warming, but you don't know what temperature it raised to, it gets a bit more complicated.

Low risk foods like vegetables and bread are unlikely to cause any problems as long as meat (particularly raw) juices haven't dripped on them. You might find re-freezing bread and veg reduces their quality, but they won't kill you.

It's really not a god idea to re-freeze raw meat if there has been even the slightest bit of thawing on the outside. You can however, defrost the raw meat in the fridge, cook it and re-freeze it safely.

Cooked meat shouldn't be re-frozen if there was any sign of thawing.
Like with raw meat, raw seafood can be cooked and re-frozen.

If it's defrosted in the switched off freezer for 8 hours, that's safe like defrosting it in the fridge over night.

You just have to remember that some seafood (like pink prawns) has already been cooked.
Okay, thanks for the info.
I can take the surplus off your hands, I'm feeling the pinch lately. I'll send the Rolls for it. grin wave

I promise not to object... I think....

If the food didn’t thaw I don’t think there’s any risk of illness from eating it. You will know if it’s bad if it smells bad after thawing or is growing mold.
How cute are you Oz hug
apart from your match making hobby, have you anymore?

Your comment reminds me of one of my favorite songs
which reminds me of Mysty ... if you remember him roll eyes

Since so many have suggested much the same, I'm sure you are also right thumbs up
But I've decided to dump it all the same.

I had a great idea recently to save a bit of money on foodwow i make my own chips and freeze themwow
I think it's E.coli where a piece of raw meat with three organisms left at room temperature for 10 minutes can develop enough multiplying microbes to severely injure, or kill.

It doesn't happen very often, but you can't tell by looking at it, or sniffing it.

We had an outbreak of E.coli here about 20 years ago which started in a school kitchen and then spread like wildfire from one small child to another throughout the county. One wee lad died, many were hospitalised in intensive care units.

Bear in mind that even if the top millimeter layer of raw meat has defrosted and is then re-frozen, pathogens have the opportunity to multiply.
And they are far nicer than those ready frozen ones thumbs up

Seems every week the price of eggs are going up.....
thinking of investing in a few friends of feathers chicken chicken chicken

Haven't seen you Mr Charming in awhile wave
Reasons why I've decided to dump it....
magnums included sad

yes everything seems to go up...each time i go shoppingdoh

i decided to have a break for a whilebeer wine
i forgot to mention...i have recently prepared and frozen roast potatoes...but not tried them yetgrin

freezers are so important and i freeze bread often...cause it takes less than 24 hours to defrost it and you can toast from frozenwow
Well its good seeing you around again wave
not only is the shopping going up weekly, but I believe we'll soon be charged for parking whilst shopping.

P while shopping here is quite common here,

Yea sleep well your irish beauty brroomstick rider sweetoe you heart1
I hear you.

I can see how it's not worth the physical health risk as you said, but getting stressed everytime someone sinks their choppers into food you're not confident about is unhealthy too.
Ozzie you have a Grand way with words, why don't you dazzle that lady with your charm and it will be me sitting in the back pew of the church, cheering for you both. handshake cheers

Likewise, I hear you as well thumbs up

But being careful does not mean I'm stressed.

I've since given the food away to some hungry folk who will only be too happy to sink their choppers in, so at least it did not end up as waste.
