Chaos in Russia

Russia's President Vladimir Putin briefed his Belarusian counterpart on the situation in southern Russia as the private military company Wagner declared an armed rebellion against the country's leadership. The heads of state agreed on joint actions to prevent what many military experts were already calling a "coup" attempt. President of Belarus, having additionally specified the situation through his own channels, with the agreement with the President of Russia, held talks with the head of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Can you tell us more?

What I read from books by Heidi Blake, Catherine Belton, Bill Browder and Mikhail Khodorkovsky is basically that Putin chose his people carefully and gave them very lucrative positions. He also made deals with the major Criminal groups and the Mafia.
Unlike any other leader he is a very good organiser where all factions are given very favourable opportunities which they can keep as long as they stay in line.

My opinion (based on my own thoughts) is that a successor has already been appointed and agreed upon by all factions which keeps the status quo.

So I need your counter argument for the assertion you make, if you wish.

@ten do you actually believe even a fraction of the trite crap you spout?Laughable, don't you agree?
I usually refrain from being personal, but you prod me way too often.
Don't speak about matters that people like you will never understand.
And get off of your high horse, you little, entitled man.
You know nothing about us.
@ten I speak of the situation unfolding in Russia, of which you insist we are not entitled to hold or express opinions, because we don't speak Slavic and don't live there. That is patent nonsense. Repeat - rubbish! Whatever you think (do you think, or just mouth off) I, we are entitled to suppose that Putin's power is palpably weakened by the events just now, and the events of the last 18 months.
This is what you read in my posts not what I said.
And yes, some opinions are simply wishful thinking.
You can sit here stomping your foot in disagreement, that doesn't make any difference to what the reality is.
D-o y-o-u u-n-d-e-r-s-t-a-n-d?
Just trying to understand the situation and different points of view...Putin has something to gain...whatever that is be it resources or control of countries surrounding Russia and preservation of his existence... dunno
Oh, dear, where do you think these people live? On the Moon.
That's funny to say the least.
The West banned the Russian news, don't blame "both sides".
It amazes me the superiority you, people exude .
Who do you think you are?!
You seem one sided and quite full of yourself..."you people" screams of superiority and you said it...this is no longer a discussion...it is a lesson futility...

Good day...

I just wanted to add...I have never heard of Americans or Canadians defecting to live in Russia...who would...confused

Exactly, I give my opinion based on what are considered reliable direct sources, not blogcasts and other peoples opinions.
I also sometimes speculate which is purely what I am thinking and I give that separately.

So I expect to hear everybody's opinions but I like to know if it's backed up or a personal feeling.

I noticed very few people bother to express their views or discuss things so I might do likewise.
laugh
As you are witnessing the difficulty to get an insider scoop on conflict in or around Russia...you get met with hostility...shock

I do not rely on such "entertainment shows" and seek out reliable sources as well...pity that some are not receptive to giving details or backing up their opinions...

Steven Seagull?

Not that this is about what Americans or Canadians would do. I'm sure there are better examples of Ukrainians who want to live in Russia
Hi Butch'r beer

Nonono, trust me Nato will not do anything stupid at this stage.
That train has left the platform.
You are wrong.
The vast majority of the Russian people love and respect Putin. Do some research. If he is cornered then he will use any method to save his country and people, yes even nuclear. I have fought against the Russians and I joined then in Central Africa for a brief spell. Don't believe everything you read or are told find out from the source if you can. Another thing, the PRC will firmly support Russia when push gets to shove.

Oh yes,
jmo.
Actually the majority of those over 50 years of age respect Putin, however, the younger generations despise him and want him gone.
there are far more under 50 than above, so your statement "The vast majority" is far from the truth.
But then truth is something alien to you.

Maybe you should follow your own advice? "Don't believe everything you read or are told find out from the source"
@luke my miniscule sample of Russian students (of English) have 100% contrary viewpoints. Of course this is a very biased sample since all have emigrated, or seek to emigrate. Great care is always taken if the topic of Russian leadership arises, naturally. I listen and never comment except on points of verb tense vocabulary and grammar.
Yes, superiority complex is quite obvious.
And yes, I know quite a few Americans and Canadians who couldn't be happier leaving their countries to come and live here. And I'm speaking people in their forties.
If you go to YouTube you will find plenty such people who are settling in Russia and helping others with information.
What an outragelaugh
The support for Putin's government is over 80%. That's what even our America owned TV broadcasters say.
Like it or not, that's it.
Youth included.
Stalin had this kind of numbers too, actually even higher!laugh
Two articles which are fairly balanced:

The quoted 80% I assume is taken from 'polls' of ex soviet countries, and certainly do not reflect the Russian citizen polls. The Russian polls we can suppose are warped to a significant degree, but patriotism is a big factor skewing it over 50%.
Some Ukrainians want to live in Russia particularly around the Donbas which has the deepest darkest coal mines in the world. Mines that surely belong in Mordor and don't fit with our ideas in the shire. Sauron would pay them better than we would.

And then you have the rest of Ukraine that's countryside and farming. It's not Soviet orc.
shouldn't that be Steven Seagal?laugh
And the same goes for the Crimea. That too is more important to Russia than it would be to Europe. It has a higher stake in that system.
Even if Navalny came to power by some fluke, the Crimea would remain in Russian hands.
Not Nelson??laugh

Because Crimea is Russian.
And Navalni never stood a chance to become anything more than a troubled man who had his fair share of the corruption.
Canonising him into some kind of a saint is something done purposely and fitted the plan for destroying Russia..
Because if Navalni for some reason was ever elected as a president of Russia, that would have been the end of the country.
And we all know it.
@journalist this blog is about Russia, not Bulgaria. I have little information AND little knowledge of Bulgaria, so I might as well take what you say about Bulgaria at face value. However when it comes to Russia I have both information and knowledge, acquired over 60 some years of observation, more, even going back to the day Khrushchev handed Crimea to the Ukraine - well maybe not quite that far. The articles I suggested you read seemed and still seem to me fairly accurate and realistic. Your protestations DO NOT. Thus I tell you again. Get it?
Do you speak Russian?
If not, argument with you is over.
You have nothing to prove me wrong.
Got that by any chance?
And your words speak volumes to your hatred of others...scapegoating minorities has been done with disastrous results...find it on YouTube...laugh

@'journo' So now you assert that to hold an opinion on this matter I must speak Russian? This thread is about chaos in Russia, and invites us to express opinions on the matter. I am not clear on what your opinion is, except that you wish to dispute everyone else's. I am not arguing with you, I have presented some articles that represent my understanding and point of view. What did you actually say that represents your point of view, and why do I need to speak Russian to prove you wrong?
You have 60 years of propaganda, nothing else.
Yes, you need to speak the language to know the difference from one "news" to another.
Anyway, it's boring to have empty "conversations".
When you have something first hand I might listen.
Fargo...

The pro-Putin propaganda machine has spoken...you will have to take her word for it...or pay the consequences...laugh

@op you might like to suspend comments here - no one is actually contributing now, just squabbling and quibbling and quarrelling. Let's retreat to Belarus! (or Bulgaria - oh no, that's where Jock Palfreeman was imprisoned!)
I doubt this statement very much as most have pre conceived ideas about this war.
I know most of the so called facts on both sides are in fact propaganda facts but apart from the lies real men, fathers and sons are dying.
For what? Please question this and do not say it's because Russia invaded Ukraine. That's the biggest lie.
Wow I never expected this from you.

You do realise that there still are folk that love their own country? Who are we to deny them that?
What? You wanna buy her some gloves for Christmas? rolling on the floor laughing
Just like you managed to close a few of my blogs with your whining to the mods I do believe you are trying the same stunt with TM's blog. You are the only one contributing zilch.
