Yesterday
I'm generally not the type of person who mentally lingers on days past. Mostly I focus on the present and the future.You know that statement, "today is the first day of the rest of your life." I've even blogged about that recently.
Nonetheless, I did want to mention one other thing that happened yesterday. I stopped by a Hallmark store to buy a couple of cards. To be specific they were both sympathy cards. Unfortunately, my oldest cousin died recently. He was a nice guy, but he drank far too much and his liver finally gave up. You'd figure that the gout should have been a good warning sign, but the idiot kept drinking. In addition a woman I originally met on a site similar to this one suffered a brain aneyurism, went into a coma and subsequently died.
They are holding a memorial service for her in Florida next week.
So, back at the card store I find 2 appropriate cards and I'm standing in a long line to get to pay for them, so I can get on with my life.
Well, "when life hands you lemons,make lemonade." Thus, what I usually do in similar situations is joke with the people on line. It generally makes the time spent in line seem shorter and one can often make all sorts of friends that way.
They must have had those mylar helium balloons on sale, because they were throughout the store up to the ceiling with long ribbon ties hanging down within arm's reach. So, I grab a "Happy Birthday" one and turn around to the woman behind me in line. She is an older woman, probably in her late 60's, just guessing.
Anyway, I turn to her and hand her the balloon and say "I hope you have a very happy birthday."
She laughs and says, "Oh my God ! You are not going to believe this, but today really is my birthday." So, now several people in line are wishing her a "happy birthday". The woman behind her says, "you must be some sort of psychic". I laughed and said, "yes, now only if I could use my superpowers when buying a lottery ticket." The birthday gal laughs and says, "yeah, or in Vegas." We chatted a bit more and all of a sudden it was my turn in line. "Have a great day people !"
Oh, here's another blog about a somewhat similar situation;

[did you have to pay for the mylar balloon?]
I don't think she left the store with it. I didn't even think of it. But, you are right, I should have bought it for her.
