Condemned man dies during execution, updated.

A news item today reports on a condemned man who had a heart attack when the "lethal" injection failed to work properly,

To my way of thinking this leaves us with several questions -

Should we be executing people in the first place?
Can we not in 2014 come up with a lethal injection that both works & is humane?
When can we expect to see the bastard that raped & murdered an 11 month old girl who was due to be executed two hours later put to death?

UPDATE.
Further details of the days events are now available on the BBC news site for those that haven't already seen them.

@furry you want him to suffer more...but by the death penalty his sufferings are quite lessened. he is relieved of all pains within seconds....and if he is jailed for the whole life, his sufferings are multiplied...then he dies each day.
just compare the two situations...I am considering your view-point only.
@Z Would you please research the crime records...if the award of death penalties decrease the crime rate compared from where there exist no death penalties....are you interested in singly this case or what follows after....I only side with the reason....and the suitable measures, whatever...if the mishap curbed by this punishment or that punishment...the purpose is to stop it.
And what puzzles me the most is how some can be so concerned about the right to live of the murderer while forgetting that he had deprived somebody else of exactly that same right; often for nothing more than the few bucks in the victim's pocket.
frustrated very mad doh
iota
I think you will find that the death penalty does not deter murder...in a crime of passion...or if targeted...imo...as for a humane killing...that is an odd saying...you can make it as clinical as you like...it still is killing someone...
@Z & loulou
quite right.
i agree cat.And even when the murderers executed at least he has a humane death which is more than his poor victims had.He chose to do what he did.His victim didnt have a choice
Furry
I may sound harsh, but on average we have 58 murders per day. And they sit just 3 or 4 years before they are released because of overfull jails.
hug wave
Cat, rights of the victim & families etc must be the slowest thing in legal history to get any recognition, if a large corporation got treated badly new laws would be on the statute books in weeks but the murder victim seems hardly worth a mention doh
Cat, 58 a day doh that's a disaster, there comes a point when no matter how much you love a place it's time to ship out wow
I had to check, we get around 390 a year.
...whereas I always wonder what happened to the individual that caused them to lack empathy enough to do the crime.
Abagail , wave even in a carefully controlled factory environment a small percentage of the production run will be faulty, transfer that to the chemical mix that is us humans & I wonder there aren't more of them uh oh wine
Lou, that's pretty low, reading the list on Wiki there are some places I wouldn't want to step out of the airport doh

I was curious about South Africa...thought cat had lost the plot...those numbers are huge...but I googled it and there is alot of crime and murder there...I wonder why?...
Z, I used to believe that inherently sometimes people can just be broken... but when I have done more research, sometimes it can be attributed to a lack of bonding with anyone when they are young. Last night, I was listening to a foster parent tell me how she had a child in care who was in residential care. A child will only end up there when several foster families are tried and failed. He was two years old. When the child came to her, he was biting ten or so other children a day in daycare. When the child left her care, maybe one a day. He is now six, with a permanent carer and doing quite well in school.

I wonder what would have happened to that two year old if everyone gave up, and more so... I wonder how the situation ever rose to begin with.
Lou the numbers for the Ivory Coast are even worse, can't answer your question, maybe Cat or Luke might have an idea.
Abagail , I don't doubt what you're saying but if someone, and we're talking really small numbers for the really bad ones, is that broken maybe no amount of help can bring them back dunno
I think this just reflects society, Z.

Redex, watching the news, those were the days moping laugh

It's an interesting topic where everyone seems able to see\understand the opposite viewpoint, so yes I agree it went very well, and went on far longer than I anticipated uh oh laugh How's the packing going dunno hope you've got your passport & southern viva ready laugh rolling on the floor laughing
GG, some good points there, I think most can agree than these particular individuals are dealt with far too leniently, my personal view is that the public should be protected & if that means invading their human rights then tough, if we can't have the death penalty then go with your life is life thumbs up wine
KN, yes good description, beings, I think we must stop considering them human & just stick with beings thumbs up wine
