Condemned man dies during execution, updated.

A news item today reports on a condemned man who had a heart attack when the "lethal" injection failed to work properly,

To my way of thinking this leaves us with several questions -

Should we be executing people in the first place?
Can we not in 2014 come up with a lethal injection that both works & is humane?
When can we expect to see the bastard that raped & murdered an 11 month old girl who was due to be executed two hours later put to death?

UPDATE.
Further details of the days events are now available on the BBC news site for those that haven't already seen them.

rolling on the floor laughing Zman beam me up zeddy... Im off..rolling on the floor laughing
i guess its easy to agree or disagree with the death penalty from a distance,i would not like to be the one making the final decision,i wonder did pierrepoint wrestle with his conscience or did he just view it as a job?
Well the crux doesn't really lie on the government trustworthiness on this alone Z. Remember? But yes, perhaps it will fall just as much as the case on EUTHANASIA?

I was just thinking out loud Z, perhaps there will come a time truly when we can say: HEAVEN IS UPON US?
iotaoo, I'm not much of a reader but I have in the past read a fair amount on serial killers & it seems to me that those factors are not present in a large number of cases, there is talk of blows to head in early life being a possible cause but some just appear to have been born evil & start their activities at a very early age, normally with cruelty to animals who can't fight back, whilst I wouldn't be convinced to make the death penalty mandatory in cases of murder, there are however some where I'd be quite happy to do the deed myself.
What time is your flight landing?laugh
Well coming up Luke, I will definitely let you know. I am clearing up my schedule for Asia in favor of Africa then..

I hold you to it now Luke.
Lou, I wouldn't suggest for a moment having your freedom removed was a picnic but there are two points raised earlier, in Europe, Africa & other places where these people are not doing life, they are let out to do it all over again, secondly and we're talking a very small number of cases, these people have committed crimes so horrible that to some they have lost the right to any consideration of their human rights.
And yes to your idea of prevention Lou, I have always been on the positive note on this. But if indeed, there are people with no remorse and they are not even aware of the commission of such a heinous crimes then that is the very reason I suggested about the focus of the medical field to manipulate some technology relative to such an isolation of such an abnormality..?

But whether we like it or not and just as some out there out to kill and torture us, I would definitely do it myself, like Z mentioned albeit, HUMANE AS WE CAN.
I agree with Minervawine but than again there are people who has monstreous mind and no psychiatric treatment can do much confused wine
Benni, I did read a biography on him but it was a while now so can't remember for sure but I think he slept ok at least in the majority of cases, but then with hindsight there were one or two that by today's standard were unsafe convictions & should never have gone that far beer
Hello Z,

I remember when I first heard about what happen to that man, it made me sick.

In my opinion, I do not think we should be executing people in the first place. The primary reason for me saying this is because the judicial system is not perfect. There are reported many people who have been put to death, only to find out afterwards they were innocent. In those cases, there is no way of correcting the mistake made.

Secondly, I am not so sure it is the duty of a living human being to take the life of another human being. Yes, there are crazy people out there that do take others' lives and that is not right and they need to be penalized for that. I think that is why we have prisons. But to take their life as a penalty, I am not sure about that. To me, that breaches the inherent responsibility of being a living person...from a spiritual aspect.

These are just my opinions.
Whats this? subtle blackmail??rolling on the floor laughing
As some have stated. Life in prison is no picnic....I would rather be executed than spend the rest of my life in prison.
enigma , yes unfortunately there will always be those who think they do anything they want & have complete disregard for others doh wine
Johny. Well said!handshake
Potassium-Chloride probably caused the Hear-tattack and killed him!
Johnny , in the vast majority of cases I would agree with you but there are some where I feel they have lost the right to any consideration & for the safety of the population they should lose their right to life, the legal issues & past miscarriages of justice are a stumbling block but if their guilt can be proved beyond any doubt whatsoever then I see the death as the only real solution beer
Lou, why indeed, I feel governments are playing Russian Roulette with the lives of there citizens doh
zman

you put him in cell with only things that would constantly remind them of the crimes they have commented and that's all they get so for the rest of there natural born days they can only reflect on why they are where they are.
taking a person life makes us no better than the person that commented the crime lost it appear that person has been punished according to the law, what punishment has actually been dealt out? wouldn't it be better to make that person reflect only the crime they committed.
Conrad, I don't know much about the case but he'd been using the legal system in his favour for many years so was maybe due for a little injustice beer
LK, I can see some calling that torture, mentally at least, trouble is imo if you let too much sentiment get into the justice system you'll end up patting them on the head & saying don't do it again, which of course they probably will doh
Ive been in that situation. Ive been incarcerated many times, and although it obviously wasn't a life sentence, I was in there long enough to know that death would be a blessing compared to having to endure the pure hell that is daily life while locked up.
Zman, I see death penalty as Russian Roullete for us all.

@Candykid, I don't think you will think so shortly before the execution.. crazy laugh
India, up until it happened to my brother with beautiful family 4 children and a beautiful young wife orphaned and not to mention that my brother was a very good man. Yes, I didn't see the justification of them being dead. But after that, if and when these people as callous, heinous and inhuman as they are, they do deserve to die, no matter how it is, although I most favor, the sedation and injection, than anything else.

Thanks and I am sorry Lou my friend, we differ on this one..
And yes Luke, you can say it that way. Is it working?
India, not mincing your words there laugh I was just contemplating a comment along those lines, there are some like this walking amongst us, their next victim could be your child, are you prepared to take that risk for your or someone else's loved ones dunno wine
I think that governmental laws should not be based on any sympathies or feelings, and should also not cause inhumane acts.
@India, there are alternatives to death penalty. Noone here said to take side of the murderers.
Candykid, you were banged up in wrong place laugh some prisons in Europe have been described as better than holiday camps doh doesn't of course take into consideration the loss of freedom.
lind
That's okay...we don't share the same opinion...but I know why people feel that the death penalty should be implemented...
platosha , the figures for convicting & incarcerating these murderers are mind boggling, then there's the cost of endless appeals, as you say that could all go to pensioners laugh rolling on the floor laughing wine
LJ, to be totally honest with you, I must confess I'm not a good guy that will take care of you... and of course it might interfere with my own blackmailng of gov. officials..rolling on the floor laughing moping sigh
Del, that was on my mind with the comment about holiday camps laugh rolling on the floor laughing thumbs up
handshake Dela,, yes those guys are too smart to make the same mistake twice... only the dumb ones end up in prison..rolling on the floor laughing
@Platosha, South-Africa is a free country without death penalty.
Lindsey, sorry about your brother, you will know the pain only when you have experienced it
callies , what are the other alternatives you are talking of? Life imprisonment where the culprit comes out after 20 years and attacks another child and this time it may be someone from your family
123, that's another place off my places to see list doh lucky I'm not a big traveler as I'm running out of places worth going to doh thumbs up
@ Delatude, rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

The loss of freedom is still the most effective punishment. There are prisoners who have developed to better people this way, and could start a new life then in freedom.
India..

Life imprisonment where the culprit comes out after 20 years and attacks another child and this time it may be someone from your family

This happens daily here.
@ call 85 percent of inmates do NOT change as a lack of freedom, actually maybe only 7 percent if that....they don't change, half of those release commit higher crimes, and most do so to get back into prison, as aresult of not knowing what freedom is and cant survive on the outside cheers
Hi Platosha, handshake

Better hurry up, seats are limited and there is a lot of applicants for the free retirement plan. laugh wine
