Smoking kills

My friend with lung cancer begged her doctor and family today to remove the machine that's keeping her alive.

Having witnessed her painful struggle for the last two years, I'd say yes. But her family being Catholic, are confused and today is the day they'd decide. I hope for their unity and would agree.

I'm older than her but she'd been hooked on cigarette for the last 30 years, tried to quit many a times but failed.

I consoled her, by saying we will all die, but even with that I feel her regrets for not quitting when she would have considering her dad died at 50 for the same illness.

The good news is that her two daughters successfully quit smoking two years ago after their mother's diagnosis.

A good lesson learned for them.

I know nicotine addiction is one hard habit to give up. I was married to one for 28 years.

My prayers for my friend. sad flower

What makes me so sad is the difficulty and pain she'd been through. She wished many a times she'd just pass away without the pain and it was hard for me as well as her family to see her struggles.

May those who smoke and desire to quit succeed.
Worst thing I ever done was started smoking mumbling
Track I hope you'll quit.
Very sad story Lindsy. sad flower

However, people don´t seem to learn. Many think that it won´t happen to them.
Hi Phyl,

Very sorry about your friend! Smoking is a terrible habit! Tomorrow, March 7, is my 43rd anniversary of quitting smoking! I am so very glad I did! I got my help to quit from the Seven Day Adventist Church! They have a 5 day quit smoking plan which I used and was able to quit! thumbs up
Daniela, it's very sickeningly sad.

I believe people should and must weigh the consequences if they're habit us hurting them and their love ones.

My ex tried to quit many a times after 10 years of not smoking after we met, but got a hold on him so tight, he can't.

I know he loves to quit. I'm lucky non of my children inherited the habit because he was strong in discouraging them.
I'm happy for you and your family Jim.

I believe we're much healthier without smoking.
It wouldn't hurt, though some people would still start up for whatever reason.
Track I made it clear with my children that absolutely no smoking for them.

They're doing it with my grand children.
I grew up in a house full of smokers. Everyone who dropped by also smoked, it was all I seen. To me, it was normal to smoke.
well theres olenty to advocate giving up lectureing us smokers same people would drive over you if you were dying ...laws to stop people are inftringing on peoples rights ..me myself I have give up now do the electric and now there trying to ban same ...everything we do is dangerous crossing rd is dangerous ...women wearing cheap permume men as well I find repulsive maybe ban these do us all a favour ..is a person right to smoke if they wish is my belief .
That's understandable Track.
Yeah JJ,
No one is lecturing here,
Just supporting dunno

As for the Government trying to ban your right to do so tinfoil hat Considering you brought it up.
Nothing could be further from the truth,
They want to regulate it to a similar standard as smoking due to lass of revenue.

The Government love the little sheeple and want you to fell empowered by the freedom to self harm.
In moderation of course, But only to a point where its not effecting the cost to the state in health costs
And not to much of a drain the HSE professor
John in addition I don't advocate, but I do encourage people to quit. My children I ordered for them not to smoke and so was their dad.

It's my rule for my family. You're not my family so it's non of my business.
Non, I doubt that the government would succeed in doing the ban however in California, you can't smoke in any public buildings, restaurants and even outside when there are three or more people affected by such.

There's a designated place to smoke in a workplace.
That's reality Track. If only we can get rid that which we know that hurts us.

That's why I said I doubt that the government would ban it because of the great profit on our weakness.
Yes, it's more of the struggle if one who's illness was a deliberate result of a habit of which the victim truly regrets but knew she was weak to repel and or overcome.

Thanks for your clarification John.
I've just been to the hospital and the whole family was united in taking that life support and she's in peace going home.

God Bless her soul.

She gave the whole instructions where to disperse her ashes as she wants to be cremated. No crying but a big party.

I am still at awe with all this.
