High ranking Women in uniform...

From time-to-time photos of a woman in uniform turns up on CS. That excites me... doesn't it excite you? Take for example, new member 46 year old Sargent Joanne from California. I find it amazing as her profile shows four-star General Ann Elizabeth Dunwoody who was the first woman to become a four-star general back in 2008. Some people say women cannot do a man's job, but when it comes to the military, Ann is retired now and celebrated her 70 birthday this month.
Congrats...

Ladies and Gentlemen....

Whilst growing up, I learned that there was an implied difference between a woman and a lady, as well as a man and a gentleman. But, aspiring to behave in a ladylike manner (which my parents, and early teacher tried to instill in me), only began to happen in my mid to late20s. It wasn't that I made a studious effort (like 'finishing-school' level), but I became more mindful and left my tom-boy ways behind me.

I also begun to expect more from the men that I dated, looking at and listening to how they behaved and spoke amongst other people. Even now, I have such expectations of myself and the men that I meet on here and offline, that I sometimes wonder if I'm operating in an outdated manner, or that the 'lady' and 'gentleman' posture is either a myth, or just wishful thinking.

Google has lots to say on the topic:

What do you think? Are you old-fashioned like me and think that it's reasonable for me to expect gentlemanly traits?

Alec Baldwin: Rusted...

News this morning that Alec Baldwin will be charged with involuntary manslaughter in 'Rust’ film shooting.

Cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, 42, was working on the set of the Western 'Rust' when she was shot and killed by the film's star, Baldwin.

Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will each be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. First assistant director David Halls has already agreed to plead guilty for the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon.

Baldwin was sitting in a pew in the area's church practicing his cross draw, facing the camera and crew and pointing the revolver toward the camera lens, when the shooting occurred. Halls had handed the gun to Baldwin while proclaiming "cold gun," to let the crew know a gun with no live rounds was being used. Hutchins was killed by a live round inside the gun.

Halls reportedly told investigators that he didn't know there were any live rounds in the gun when he gave it to Baldwin.

Jeff Beck TRUTH...

In 1968, guitarist Jeff Beck released an album called TRUTH and the truth was every guitarist in my city wore out their records learning Beck's licks note-for-note. We knew he played with The Yardbirds in 1966, as well as two other famous guitarists Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.

Forming The Jeff Beck Group he teamed up Rod Stewart on vocals, Ron Wood on bass and Mickey Waller on drums. Blown away isn't credit enough for the album as there aren't any 'B-side' songs on it. All of them were winners!

The original lineup of The Jeff Beck Group were only together a few years as it was reported Jeff may not have been the easiest to get along with, but each version of a new band brought a different set of talent.

Sadly the news came across the internet today that Jeff had contracted Bacterial Meningitis and passed away after a short battle. He was 78 and had finished a tour as recent as November 2022.

The song Shapes of Things was previously recorded by The Yardbirds, but Beck's version has much... much more energy and was the first track on his Truth album.

SOFTIE…

People who are easily emotional and feel the pain of others deeply are considered to be ‘softies’. Some see such persons as being kind and empathetic, whilst others see them as being ’weak and stupid’. For example, the Cambridge Dictionary states that a softie is “a kind, gentle person who is not forceful, looks for the pleasant things in life, and can be easily persuaded to do what you want them to”, whilst the Merriam-Webster’s definition is “1: a weak or foolish person and 2 : a soft-hearted or sentimental person."

In Psychology the term is “Soft Personality”, and identifies different types and traits.

If a man is seen as being soft (by women and other men), then that’s not a good thing, because that’s the equivalent of being weak and un-masculine. But some men can be big and strong, and still be a softie. Men usually have to present and maintain the image of toughness and stoicism (even if they aren’t naturally so), in order to be regarded in a positive light. However, women being soft is more acceptable, and is even desired as a character trait by interested males.

I can’t recall, exactly, when I first realized that I was a ‘softie’, but I can say that I don’t think I may have always been so. Seems to me, that when I was much younger I was less so, but who’s to say that I wasn’t ‘born this way’. Make no mistake, I’ve also been known to be tough and abrasive, not easily persuaded, and (very) foolish, so there’s no perfect formula to describe my brand of softie.

I’m mentally strong but physically weak, optimistic but pragmatic, appreciative of the simple things in life. I love to laugh but cry easily (at/for anything that’s sad), prefer to see the good in others but I’m too trusting, forthright but forgiving. Sounds like a resume or personal ad, right (laugh). Seriously though, I’m glad that I’m a softie, but it does have its downside…

What about you? Are you a softie, too?

WOW! Karma or Kismet? Maybe both...

Man Who Spent his Life Helping Disabled People Find a Home Has Won a £2.5million Country House in a Raffle

Grant Carson scooped up the five-bedroom farmhouse complete with eight acres of the Lake District after entering the Omaze Million Pound House Draw. The 58-year-old widower said that he can now get a dog, which was what he always wanted, but was always out of the question due to chronic arthritis he has had since he was seven.

Carson worked at the same Glasgow charity for 27 years helping disabled people with all aspects of life, and had never won anything before. He was understandably stunned when the Omaze team surprised him at his three-bedroom home in Glasgow. ”It’s not your average Friday night that someone comes to your door and tells you that you’ve won a £2,500,000 house,” said Carson. “I might be one of the luckiest men in Scotland.”

I think that's an awesome blessing that he got for being a blessing to others in need!!!wine

It’s not only WHAT you say, but also HOW you say it…

Earlier today, whilst sweeping up some dried leaves in my driveway/garage, I recalled something that had been said to me more than 12 years ago by my ex-husband (aka ‘wus’-bandlaugh), which was upsetting and negatively affected our marriage relationship. Today I mused that, had those same words been said with a loving/caring tone and intent, then I would not have felt belittled or dismissed (by him) at the time.

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words cannot harm me”, is a LIE because whilst the hurts from ‘sticks & stones’ are usually superficial and short term, the pain that words sometimes cause goes deep…even to one’s very soul…and can last for decades. When I thought about them today, I felt the disappointment (again).

I’ve noticed that, for some people, it’s really easy to use words against others in order to hurt or offend, and I’m not even talking about the popularly known ‘obscene’ ones. I try not to (at least not out loudgrin). Even when there isn’t an intent to do so, that can still happen, so it’s not only WHAT you say, but also HOW you say it that matters in ALL relationships.

So tell me, if your person/spouse/significant other says to you, “It doesn’t matter what we discuss, the final decision is always mine”, how would you feel and what would you think? hmmm

Your weekly dose of Donald... 2023 edition

It hasn't been quiet in Trump world, not for one minute. A few news stories daily and 'Trutes' from his TRUTH social media site keeping those 'Libs' on their toes.

I'm surprised no one on CS mentioned that Biden had classified documents in his possession. Trump did and wants to know why the FBI didn't raid his many homes.

Hmmm... that's one to ponder!
