How old would you be, if you didn't know the day you were born? Some people are born old and some would never be old if the calendar (ok, and the mirror) didn't tell them so. They think they are supposed to let the old man in. Nope. He's a state of mind, and he's horrible.

I just listened to Clint Eastwood singing a song with the blog title, because it was his response when asked how he could be starting filming the following week when he was 88, how did he keep going? 'I don't let the old man in'. Like most C&W it's a bit mournful so I haven't included it but the quote above is from the lyrics.

I can't remember when I last did a cartwheel and I'm pretty damned sure I really can't. But just because now when you party like a rockstar it takes a few days to recover doesn't mean you never party again, right? Don't let the old bugger spoil everything that makes life sweet.

For a while CS was a haven for those who escaped the dreary world to laugh, gossip, squabble and flirt. Then we let the old man in. (No, I am not pointing a finger at anyone in particular. I am saying we let in bigotry and offensiveness and let them hold the floor, existing members as much as new ones have let the old man in)

TODAY - don't let him in. And if that feels good, tomorrow too.

I have heard tell of a railway tunnel that few men have set eyes upon since it was abandoned many years ago. Many have sought it, and many out of that many have never returned. And few of the few who have returned claim to have found it. And it is for this reason I am able to say that few men have set eyes on that tunnel. We cannot know, of course, how many of the many who sought to find the tunnel and never returned did find the tunnel, but it is thought to be very few. I mean to find that tunnel and be one of the few of the few who have found it and returned. Although those few won’t be quite so few once I become one of them.

The Tunnel is said to lie 15 miles or so northwest of here, as the crow flies, but I will be cycling. I ride next Friday morning, weather permitting. Friday is my earliest window of opportunity, as I do my weekly shopping on Thursday and will have to wait until then before I am able to provision my journey. I always take a packed lunch when I go out and I don’t want to have to make an extra trip to the shops, so it has to be after Thursday. That’s why Friday is my earliest Window of opportunity.

I anticipate many trials on my quest, and quite a few challenges, so I expect to be out all morning and possibly into the afternoon. That’s why it is important I take a packed lunch, and why I must wait until after Thursday before I go. I will be logging in here early on Friday morning, as I know many of my supporters, or a good few of them, will want to see me off.

I was thinking how much better life is these days compared with when I was younger. Things that used to be mildly pleasing are now awesome , and things that I once couldn’t even be sure warranted the slight raising of an eyebrow have become amazing. In the 70s it took something like a star man waiting in the sky to blow our minds; nowadays a bit of extra chocolate dust on top of frothy coffee is enough to do it. Then, just as now, people lusted after the finer things in life, such as expensive cars and houses, but unlike now the cars and houses back then weren’t worth dying for. Going even further back to my parents’ generation, to OMG was merely to invoke thoughts of one’s giddy aunt, now, no less than God would be adequate to express the sentiment.

Words do not adequately describe how annoying and frustrating it can be to even work with screws or bolts this tiny (shown on a quarter), much less drill and tap accurately placed bolt holes for them in tough hardened steels.



An even greater joy occurs when a hardened tap snaps in two half way down the new bolt hole and said tap turns out to be made of harder steel than the drill bits available. Of course when that happens, even after you somehow manage to more or less remove the tap, the hole is now over sized and must be welded shut, then smoothed and re-drilled, then re-tapped (with a new not yet broken tap) and threaded.

So what things do you do for fun?

My sister invited me to go on a trip with her to the next province over to spend a week at a cabin in the country. Will be little over a week. Probably not going to have internet but I'll survive lol.

My plan is to smoke lots of pot and do lots of fishing

How can you appreciate the opposite sex if you have had sex with countless numerous people?

Sex loses its meaning?
Marriages will not last?
Does it lead to more extreme things?
What then has meaning?

My new car gives me anticipation to get in and drive it...but after 5 years, I don't have that same anticipation.

If contemplating a holiday, is Thailand a good place to visit, and are there opportunities to mix with the locals. Are the bars friendly especially at night time and are the ladies willing to help you see the sights, especially if you are male?

I hate living in lockdown but you only have to look at the difference in figures to see it IS worth it. On March 11 I starting tracking the countries where I know people, on a spreadsheet. Spain had around 2000 cases. The USA had around 1000.

Yes we have terrifying figures despite the lockdown but - instead of having double as many as the USA, we have half.

But I am not a pretty sight. anyone else prepared to share their isolation look ...
