The "SS connecting singles"

Had no destination
No cargo
Free passage to hundreds of lost souls
Never sailed
Nothing happened
Except people constantly join the voyage but no one ever disembarks
Even in death they walk around the decks peering in portholes, moaning and seeking solitude and acceptance. ..

Look At My Beautiful Lawn

With the current drought in the Western Cape we only have water until April 12, 2018. Water restrictions are in force and we may not water our gardens. We use bath water to flush our toilets and dishwater to water the plants. sigh

I have a tiny enclosed backyard (±24 squared meters) as part of my one-bedroom dwelling and the lawn has given notice and departed for greener pastures a long time ago. Only the sand remained. I wish I had the savvy to take a pic of how it looked before. daydream

I decided to make a plan about this arid semi desert landscape that I called a back yard. The best quote for artificial lawn came to R 9,000. After checking the prices I found that this artificial lawn will cost me much cheaper if I do it myself. There is no ways that I’m going to pay a half-witted idiot R 3,000 for a few hours work. More than half the people in this country does not earn that in a month. doh

I showed the quotes to my sister and asked her, seen that it is her property, if she would carry half the expense but she said that she cannot bothered with lawn in my backyard and if I wanted lawn there, it was my baby. I said ok, in which case I’ll roll it up and take it with me when I decide to move away. tongue

I tackled the job on Saturday. Four and a half hours and R 6,000 later, I had the most beautiful lawn in Cape Town. And I'd never have to water it again. yay

I spent a few Rand extra on a few other things. Even the flowers are artificial. wow

From the other side it looks like this. My sister liked it so much that she reimbursed me with half the amount on the quote on the spot and she wants me to do a piece of her yard as well. Well, at least I’ll know how to quote for the job. She and her husband went out on Sunday and I had to make my own Sunday lunch. I invited BeaPatient to come over for the day and she did the salads. See! My fire is going. thumbs up

Look at her trying to hide in the only piece of shade around. laugh

And I had to suffer in the sun in front of a sizzling-hot fire to get the meat done. I think next time I’ll make the salads and let her stand in the sun. rolling on the floor laughing

Rotate This!

Do you find that sometimes, things pop into your brain without any warning and you have no idea where they came from?

I had one of these moments today. I was driving home and looking at a new apartment building. I noticed the balconies were all in shade at that time of day, and then thought, because they were facing west, that they would be really hot in the late afternoon and how much that would suck - for me, anyway.

I though of my own house, and how hot the living room is in the late afternoon. I then had this 'brilliant' idea that wouldn't it be great if all of our houses revolved? If they were all built where, with just a click of a remote, you could turn your house however many degrees you wanted it to turn, to be in shade, or in sun and everything in between.

Too hot but still want the sun? Click, turn the house so that you're not getting the direct sun.

And then I thought, how would apartments work? You could have each floor individually move, but you couldn't have each unit move. If each unit moved, the whole thing would be spinning like a top. I want it here. Click. No! I want it here. Clickekty click. No, HERE! Click, NO! HERE! Clickety click. Click, clickety click, click, clickety click.

People would be leaving the building dizzy. Even having the floor revolve could be an issue. One person would have control and - well, we all know how that would work. You could have the floor revolve consistently, around and around and around, so no one ever gets too much sun. (Who am I kidding? In this area, there's no such thing as 'too much sun' ).

So, back to houses. This would be great! Along with revolving, you could have them lift up and down, so that you could see over the neighbor that built a huge house in front of you, blocking your view. Well, maybe not. It could end up like riding a bucking horse.

Hmm... maybe have the kids rooms revolve, and when they're bad and they get sent to their room, put it on 'fast' spin. Bet they'd learn to behave in a real hurry!

But still, a revolving house? Seems like a great idea to me. Heck, they have houses that unfold now, so why not just add a 'spin' feature? Maybe that'd be too much like being in a dryer cycle. Rotate may be more accurate, and less dizzying.

food for though

if you blame life then, you blame who give it.
so don't blame life, blame the way how you live it .

How can you appreciate?

How can you appreciate the opposite sex if you have had sex with countless numerous people?

Sex loses its meaning?
Marriages will not last?
Does it lead to more extreme things?
What then has meaning?

My new car gives me anticipation to get in and drive it...but after 5 years, I don't have that same anticipation. dunno

America, the land of opportunity and freedom

Internationally, the USA is regarded as a land of so many things. Most of them are not so good. Depending upon where you live and how you live, it defines and influences how you perceive this great country.

I say great because from my own experience and how I have seen and lived in some places of the world, I as a citizen and have lived here more than anywhere else, the Philippines where I was born included, find this country the most diversified (earned the famous saying: the melting pot of the world) and most sought after from the rest of the world.

When I was in Australia, I learned that we the Americans are regarded as loud, arrogant and warriors, but at the same time, I also learned that we are the land of opportunity, kindness and generosity.

When I lived in Europe, albeit, a very short while, almost all the people I met had been dying to come and visit if not work and live in America. I still find this to be true, specially from the poor countries of the world.

Anyways, like I said, our perceptions and understanding of this country is as diversified and as polarized as our understanding or lack thereof depending on many things and reasons.

I do understand if there are some that might find our values and general attitudes, obnoxious and lacking humility. But just as any country in the world there is no way, one's perception and experience can truly represent the general identity of any place.

For me and the rest of those that migrated here, I find it still very responsive for those who seek to fulfill the not so elusive "American Dream."

This blog is not to change anyone's perception, it only represents my opinion and those that might find it as correct as I do.

I love this country and inspite of all the negative connotations we have earned as a nation, it is still the best for me, my children and my family.

Have a nice Sunday fellow bloggers, readers and contributors if any.

Your comments are all appreciated and feel free to say what you like or dislike in our country, including me of course, and I am sure so many of you don't like me and what I believe in. That is okay. Bring it on.

I am sure there are so many of us who's opinions are favorable and not so favorable. I understand. We are all different and therefore your opinion is for me, just yours and I respect it.hug

A Lonely Life

Hi there. This is my first ever blog, so I'm not to sure what to write or if anyone will even read this.
I have something on my mind though & a friend told me that a great way to release feelings is by setting them free, so here goes nothing.

I have to travel extensively for my job. In the beginning it was so exciting. I travelled to places I thought I would never visit in my life. I've seen what most people will never see, good, bad, beautiful & dreadful things. For the past 10 years I have tried to find balance in my life. It is so hard. My diet & exercise always seems to be changing, people seem to wonder in and out of my life & love never seems to last very long. The only constant is my dog waiting at home when I get there. Even that is sad as I only get to see him 6 months of the year.

I feel like my life has come to an abrupt standstill when I started working in my industry & it seems like I have not evolved as a person. Yes, I got a little wiser, I have a bit more money & knowledge of how the world actually works. I have a greater perspective on different cultures, religions & traditions, but no emotional connection with a person I can call my love. Thats all we are all really looking for. A person who sees all of you, accepts you with all your faults & is still willing to call you the best thing that happened to them.

I hope one day I can find my reason, my happiness & my best thing that has happened to me...
I will be home in a couple of weeks & really look forward to see my dog, ride my bike & hopefully find someone I can share a cup of coffee with. Until then, I will keep traveling, keep searching & definitely keep hoping....
Peace
