Nadler: Trump 'richly deserves impeachment'
"He's violated the law six ways from Sunday," Nadler said.
By Allan Smith
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said Sunday that President Donald Trump "richly deserves impeachment," but maintained that it was too soon to begin formal impeachment proceedings.
"He has done many impeachable offenses," Nadler said on CNN's "State of the Union." "He's violated the law six ways from Sunday. But that's not the question. The question is, can we develop enough evidence to put before the American people? We have broken the logjam."
The debate over whether to launch an impeachment inquiry has divided congressional Democrats. Following former special counsel Robert Mueller's testimony on Capitol Hill this week, the total number of House Democrats supporting impeachment has neared 100. House leadership, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has repeatedly demurred.
While many Democrats hoped Mueller's testimony would shift the debate on impeachment within the Democratic caucus, his hours of testimony — while amplifying some of the more damning portions of his more than 440-page report on Russian interference in the 2016 election, whether the Trump campaign conspired with Russia and if Trump obstructed justice — did not cause any major shift in the discussion.
Calling Mueller's testimony "an inflection point," Nadler said that "it showed quite clearly that the report did not exonerate the president ... And we now have to get further evidence and put it before the American people as we consider articles of impeachment in the committee.”
"There was very damning evidence put forward on the record," Nadler said. "And I think, as the American people understand that, as people absorb that information, as we bring out more evidence, people will understand the gravity of the situation. It's not one that can be ignored."
It is within Nadler's committee that such an impeachment inquiry would begin. Though he has vocally expressed support for impeachment, Nadler has remained in line with Pelosi, who has advocated against beginning an impeachment inquiry until Democrats have the "strongest" hand possible. Neither have given a specific timeline on when such proceedings could theoretically occur.
In court filings submitted late last week to obtain grand jury information from Mueller's probe, Nadler's committee wrote that "articles of impeachment are under consideration as part of the Committee’s investigation, although no final determination has been made”
"There are articles of impeachment that have been recommended to the committee," Nadler said on Sunday. "And we are investigating and determining whether we should report those articles to the House. That's exactly what we're doing."
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., defended Democratic leadership's strategy regarding possible impeachment in an interview on Sunday with NBC's "Meet the Press."
“I worry equally about the message of taking an impeachment case to trial, losing that case, having the president acquitted, and then having an adjudication that this conduct is not impeachable,” he said.
"The jury I'm most worried about, not the Senate because I think that's a preordained conclusion, is the American people," Schiff added. "Can we make the case to the American people? I want to make sure that's true, before we go down that path, because it's going to occupy a year of the nation's time.

5 congressmen -- including Trump's future chief of staff and lawmaker who shook President's hand -- to self-quarantine after CPAC
By Haley Byrd, Paul LeBlanc, Lauren Fox and Kaitlan Collins, CNN
Three more members of Congress, including President Donald Trump's future chief of staff, have announced that they would self-quarantine after coming into contact with an individual who has been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus at the recent Conservative Political Action Conference.
North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows, who was named as the incoming White House chief of staff on Friday night, announced Monday evening that he has been tested for coronavirus and that test came back negative. However, he's staying in self-quarantine until Wednesday, said Ben Williamson, Meadows' chief of staff. Meadows has not yet taken his new job and was not scheduled to start this week, an official told CNN.
"Rep. Meadows was advised this weekend that he may have come in contact with the CPAC attendee who tested positive for COVID-19, now 12 days ago. Out of an abundance of caution, Meadows received testing which came back negative," Williamson said in a statement. "While he's experiencing zero symptoms, under doctors' standard precautionary recommendations, he'll remain at home until the 14 day period expires this Wednesday."
Two other Republican lawmakers announced earlier in the day that they too would be in self-quarantine out of an abundance of caution after being in contact with the individual who tested positive for coronavirus at CPAC.
Georgia Rep. Doug Collins, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, and Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida became the third and fourth members of Congress to take the step, following the same announcements from Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona on Sunday.
Collins shook Trump's hand when the President went to Georgia on Friday to visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Gaetz rode with Trump in the presidential limousine and took Air Force One back to Washington with him on Monday.
A fifth Republican member -- Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas -- was told by officials over the weekend that he had been in proximity to the individual, but he is not planning to self-quarantine, a Gohmert aide tells CNN, details the congressman himself confirmed on Twitter on Monday evening.
"After CDC physician called me Sunday evening, and we discussed all the specific circumstances of which he was aware along with my circumstances, including that I was and am asymptomatic, he said that all things considered, I was cleared to return to Washington," Gohmert said in a series of tweets.
Trump ignored questions shouted at him from a White House briefing on whether he'd been tested.
Vice President Mike Pence said he himself had not been tested and he did not know if Trump had been, but promised to get an answer to the question shortly.
"I have not been tested for the coronavirus," Pence said during a briefing on the virus with reporters, which Trump attending the beginning of...

You are absolutely feeble and your spineless incompetent criminal POTUS has brass, but no balls. He can't admit he fails and so he can't learn from mistakes he won't acknowledge. And you feeble minded cowards choke on the words "Oops. I was wrong about this guy" and, instead, you try to blame anyone but him (and yourself for supporting him) for all the death and loss.
THIS IS YOUR FAULT. Get a spine and the courage to listen to your better angels. (It's not easy but it will make you a better person and this a better world.) Trump's incompetence is clearly evident thru his total mishandling (and criminal corrupt handling) of COVID19. At last, this makes it clear what a constantly lying, posing, incompetent buffoon he is and, instead of admitting errors so they can be learned from, you people are so scared of admitting you were wrong that you try to make the WHO to blame.
The WHO warned us. Trump does not listen to the WHO or the UN. He hates all globalist organizations. HATES them and always has hated them. NOW he wants to blame an organization he hates and has always disrespected for not MAKING HIM TAKE COVID19 seriously. Trump was warned and warned and warned and he chose to hold rallies and politicize it. I hope the only cure for a MAGA getting COVID19 is a prayer to God before the world: "Heavenly Father, people of the world, please forgive me for being too long the supporter of Trump who was incompetent on every level and ran our country like it was a reality TV show. I'm grateful to have been given this opportunity, at such great cost to us all, to see I have been stubbornly lying to myself about the reality of the situation because I had placed so much hope for things getting better in Trump. I see now that holding onto a delusion is much more costly than accepting a mistake was made and learning from it."
Not many of you would survive it because you are all religious hypocrites as well. Here's Christ calling you to repent of the hate that made you back Trump, and you try to make an organization (OUTside the US & Trump hates and would not listen to) responsible for Trump's malfeasance. Get a grip.
It is Trump's responsibility--NOT the WHO's to get it right IN the United States and, if you can't admit that, you're irrational and/or a coward/psychotic and no one, in any venue, should ever take you seriously again until you come to terms with REALITY.
Some Americans are being manipulated & motivated by outside sources.
Indeed, it's entirely possible, that once again Russia is leading the charge to confuse and turn Americans against one another and the foolish are active participants.

Roughly half the Twitter accounts pushing to 'reopen America' are bots, researchers found
by Aaron Holmes
May 22, 2020, 10:19 AM
As parts of the US have lifted shutdown orders during the COVID-19 pandemic, there's been a fierce argument online about the risks and benefits of reopening. New research suggests that bots have been dominating that debate.
Carnegie Mellon University researchers analyzed over 200 million tweets discussing COVID-19 and related issues since January and found that roughly half the accounts — including 62% of the 1,000 most influential retweeters — appeared to be bots, they said in a report published this week.
That's a far higher level of bot activity than usual, even when it comes to contentious events — the level of bot involvement in discussions about things like US elections or natural disasters is typically 10% to 20%.
The researchers identified bots using artificial-intelligence systems that analyze accounts' frequency of tweets, number of followers, and apparent location.
"Tweeting more frequently than is humanly possible or appearing to be in one country and then another a few hours later is indicative of a bot," Kathleen Carley, a computer-science professor who led the research, said in a release.
"When we see a whole bunch of tweets at the same time or back to back, it's like they're timed," Carley added. "We also look for use of the same exact hashtag, or messaging that appears to be copied and pasted from one bot to the next."
The researchers said they found that among tweets about "reopening America," 66% came from accounts that were possibly humans using bot assistants to spread their tweets more widely, while 34% came from bots.
There are a few possible explanations for the surge in bot activity. People may have more time to set up elaborate bot networks during stay-at-home orders, and the availability of botnets for hire has exploded recently. Carley also said that the global nature of the pandemic meant that countries and interest groups were using it to advance political agendas.
However, the researchers did not determine the origins of the bot activity or narrow down whether it was coming from foreign nation-state actors or from within the US.
"Even if someone appears to be from your community, if you don't know them personally, take a closer look, and always go to authoritative or trusted sources for information," Carley said. "Just be very vigilant."

There's more to it than we know... much more.
Kyle Rittenhouse, the 18-year-old acquitted in the deadly shootings during last year’s unrest in Kenosha, Wis., said he plans to sue news organizations and personalities for spreading “lies” against him.
“Me and my team have decided to launch The Media Accountability Project as a tool to help fundraise and hold the media accountable for the lies they said and deal with them in court,” Rittenhouse said Monday on Fox News.
“I don’t want to see anybody else have to deal with what I went through,” he told Tucker Carlson, adding that he is looking “at quite a few politicians, celebrities, athletes, Whoopi Goldberg’s on the list.”
He claimed that the co-host of “The View” called him a “murderer” despite him being found not guilty of all charges in the shootings that killed two men and injured a third on Aug. 25, 2020.
“She called me a ‘murderer’ after I was acquitted by a jury of my peers. She went on to still say that,” he said. “And there’s others, don’t forget about Cenk from ‘The Young Turks.’ He called me a murderer before verdict and continues to call me a murderer.”

It didn’t take long after an 18-year-old brutally murdered 19 schoolchildren and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, before the internet misinformation machine cranked into action. Starting on 4chan, a false rumor began to spread that the school shooter was a trans woman named Sam. Right-wing troll Candace Owens continued to push the false narrative long after it had been disproved. The online chatter even grew to the point where far-right Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona claimed the shooter was trans in a since-deleted tweet.
A teenage trans girl in El Paso was accosted by a group of men who taunted her with the internet rumor, insisting the Uvalde shooter was one of her “sisters.”
The woman targeted by the false accusation eventually had to post a photo of herself holding a sign with the date, which was after the shooter had died by police fire during the attack, to prove she was not the shooter. Later that evening, a teenage trans girl in El Paso was accosted by a group of men who taunted her with the internet rumor, insisting the Uvalde shooter was one of her “sisters". .........
