Earthquake

Disasters happen. We still have no way to eliminate earthquakes, wildfires, hurricanes, floods or droughts. We cope as best we can by fortifying ourselves against danger with building codes and levees, and by setting aside money to clean up afterwards.
Seth Shostak.

...We have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We’ve learned how to make a living but not a life. We’ve added years to life, not life to years.” – George Carlin..

I had a dream....I see the earthquake..

ARTlantica EcoVillage-projekt for south-portugal

An International Artists' Village as a social enterprise in the form of a self-managing cooperative.
For a life of prosperity & community, "Living like God in France".

In times of social upheaval, community projects are becoming more and more necessary for each individual and for humanity as a whole, in order to better face and master the challenges of the New Era....

With internationally known and local artists, the ARTlantica artist colony is founded on an attractively located area in Southern Europe as a multi-generational project, which provides architecturally attractive and organic buildings in wood and clay construction in the form of a spiral-shaped eco-settlement and which acts as a nucleus for further settler foundations - for a life in prosperity, health and with nature.
The aim is to be associated with EuroArt, the European network of artists' villages with the ARTlantica artists' village. The first location may be in southern Portugal.

The cooperative ARTlantica- artist village will attract visitors from all over the world.
In the past, artists' villages or districts have maintained their position as attractive settlement approaches up to the present day and continue to act as magnets to initially attract people from all over the world who are interested in art, whose charisma has also attracted and continues to attract other residents.
In addition to the artistic success and the buildings, these villages and neighborhoods also soon enjoyed economic success, which then, however, often drove away the original initiators and residents. Well-known examples are Greenwich Village/New York, Worpswede near Bremen, Ahrenshoop on the Baltic Sea or Kroszian in Croatia.

The thing about YouTube...

I enjoy YouTube because it's filled with music videos, product and software tutorials, guitar lessons and everything in between. In many cases I can miss something on TV and catch it later on YouTube. Space launch or solar eclipse for example.
YouTube is the ultimate resource If you want to prove a political point... a handful of videos can be called up to support your idea. Equally, you can find a handful of videos that are 180 degrees from the first handful.

Not that I've actually watched these things, but there are things you can find on YouTube...

Supporting the flat earth theory? Check
What's inside the Pyramids of Giza? Check
Interviews with people who were in contact with extraterrestrials? Check
How to change a wax ring on a toilet? Check
4 hours of relaxing music? Check
How to make a potato cannon? Check

Macho trucks with tires four feet high? Check
Busty Asian women catching fish? Check
How to make a guitar in 30 minutes? Check

How to change the headlights on a Corvette? Check
Exploding eggs in a microwave? Check

You get the idea... but what would life be without YouTube?

Expat...

This blog is a long time coming. The definition expat or expatriation definition can sometimes get cloudy, but it's often when someone formally renounces allegiance to his/her home country and actually gives up his or her citizenship, or something different from simply moving to another country. To some, expat could be used as a derogatory word. Cat has a current blog about Traitors and Deserters and clearly states his blog is not about that.

Here's a snipped of his statement:

I heard the term more than 20 years ago where some of the English speaking dating site members were retired in a Spanish speaking country. The main reason was financial. The economy of a simple lifestyle and improved weather was better suited for them.

Honestly, I don't know if they gave up citizenship of their country of birth, or retained it in the event they traveled back to the homeland.

I know one guy who has extended trips to Costa Rica, he says it's because the prostitutes are like 'groupies to a rock star' and often stay at his place for for free.

I have a son-in-law who came to the US from Italy and became a citizen in less than a decade. There was talk he has dual-citizenship, but I'm not certain.
I guess that's another grey area of countries who allow dual-citizenship.

Winter is coming and already I see the trailers off-loading cars with Canadian license plates. They only stay for 6 months out of the year. Why? After 6 months, the US wants to be able to tax their income!

Re-Occupancy...

There's a new twist in selling a house in the city of North Miami. It involves the inspector approving the (single-family) dwelling is the same as listed on county records and in condition to be inhabited. Basically, it's the used house version of a Certificate of Occupancy or as most people it a CO.

The burden is on the seller and if the title transfers to a new owner without approval, it means the seller gets fined. It's the only time a city inspector can get inside to look at property without someone tipping them off there's a violation.

Let's say, I closed my carport into a garage, built a room addition not visible from the street, added a kitchenette, toilet and shower... all without building permits, so I can rent to another family living in my single-family dwelling. If I sell the house and not advertise the added illegal renovations, the new owner could (literally) carry on as a landlord to tenants.

Obviously, it's a problem the city is unable to control. They have a threatening warning on the Homestead Tax Exemption form that it must be your primary residence and you cannot rent any part of it or you forfeit the exemption and are subject to a fine.

It's a 'money grab' and I dislike having to pay the last minute fee (that's holding up closing on the property) but I do understand why they do this. It would be annoying if my neighbors all had multiple renters coming and going.
