Housing Crisis in Great Britain

Overpriced Property Values, Lack of Availability, Generation Rent, Soul Less Estates, - these are some of the issues.

There is an understandable great resistance amongst people about building housing on 'Green Belt' land, for we all love the countryside - don't we ? . . .
Successive governments have maintained the policy which protects the green belt, which has been seen for generations as sacrosanct. This has led to building on 'Brownfield' sites within towns and villages, often cramming as many properties as possible into what are often small areas between existing properties.
In many cases the character of a peaceful village or hamlet has been irrevocably changed by the addition of a large number of houses within it's borders. To make matters worse, invariably the character of these new houses pays little heed to the vernacular already present. The new ones are virtually what one would find in large cities or conurbations; the historic character of an attractive location is thus diluted. . . .

Consider an alternative approach : In selectively reassessing the value of Green Belt land. . .
- There is a great deal of difference between the attractive small fields and hedgerows of some parts of our countryside and the vast prairies, which give evidence of years of Intensive Agriculture, where trees and hedges have been ploughed up. These areas have become ecological deserts, devoid of insect, bird and small mammals. Such areas have often been subjected to years of spraying with chemicals, designed to increase the productivity of the land. - It's all been about yealds.
Agricultural run-off, pollution of watercourses, the decimation of our native species, butterflies and other insects, birds and so on has been the result.
- Are we doing the right thing in 'protecting' such land against development for housing ?
- Would not a new village or hamlet within these vast areas actually add value to the environment ?
- Would not the wildlife return, to an extent, to the borders and gardens of these new homes ?
- Do we not need to be a lot more selective and re-evaluate what is worth protection and what is not ?

After all - people have value, as do green fields. . . they need somewhere to live, to bring up their children, to contribute to society. If that environment is good - will it not enhance their quality of life and appreciation of the natural world ?

Temporary husband

I’m a middle-aged man interested in middle-aged women, and I travel a lot.

Three weeks ago, I returned home after almost four months in Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia. It was a great experience, corona restrictions were limited, life was pretty much back to normal.

I use Connecting Singles and Tinder to get in contact with local women my own age, wherever I go. It’s nice to have a cup of coffee at a café together with a new female friend, who is also interested in travelling, books, films and nature.

Most middle-aged men seem to be interested in much younger women, so for a dude like me: slim, smart, funny and friendly, it is not at all difficult to find a woman between 50 to 68 years of age. There are a lot, who divorced from their ex-husband, because he found a much younger model - and there are also a lot of widows, because their husband was so much older - and then he died.

Of course they like to have coffee or dinner with me. And here is the story about my last month on Balkan:

I met a nice woman in Serbia, at the café close to the clock tower in Novi Sad. We enjoyed each others compagny, laughed and talked about everything. It was very amusing and we cheek kissed and connected on Viper.

She called me some days later, and asked if I would like to meet again? She had rent an apartment in Belgrade for some days. There was a double bed, and we slept together.

She had an idea: I could be her temporary husband. She needed a long holiday, after her husband left her for a much younger girl, he claimed was the love of his life. After more than 30 years of marriage with my new female friend.

She had a black Peugeot and found interesting places around the country, where we could stay. Places I would never had found myself. In the mountains you can get a whole house for the same price as a simple hotel room in Denmark.

We were not really in love, but very good friends - as most real couples are, I think. And travelling together was so good. We shared the expensives, and the people we met said, we were a fine couple.

You might say, it was a fake marriage - and you’re right. But it was in fact based on respect, warm feelings and the wish of staying together day and night with another guy, for a while.

Just Saying...Food for Thought

My Beautiful Friend, The Paradoxical Commandments People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway. If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway. The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway. People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway. People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway. Give the world the best you have, and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway. So, my Beautiful Friend, I leave you with this final thought for the new day ahead… NO DIFFERENCE Small as a peanut, Big as a giant, we’re all the same size When we turn off the light. Rich as a sultan, Poor as a mite, we’re all worth the same When we turn off the light. Red, black, or orange, Yellow, or white, we all look the same When we turn off the light. So maybe the way to make everything right Is for God to just reach out and turn off the light......

Is Fear the Real Virus?

Since March 2020 the world has been subjected to the most draconian measures ever applied in peace-time. Although the extent of the restrictions has varied from country to country, it’s undeniable that for the vast majority of people, at least in the western world, there has been a massive erosion of basic human rights and freedom. All this for a virus that has a 99% plus survival rate for the majority of those infected.

It has completely mystified me that so many people have accepted measures such as lockdowns, mask mandates, social distancing, testing and quarantining of people who have no symptoms whatsoever. What has puzzled me the most is that so many people have complied with most of these dictates without taking the time to consider the inconsistencies in what they are being told. For example, if the so-called vaccines that have been promoted mercilessly are really effective, why are people still required to continue practising social distancing and wearing masks? This makes no sense. Yet, so many people comply mindlessly.

In the UK the COVID response has been driven by The Behavioural Insights Team. Recently the Telegraph newspaper reported that members of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviour (SPI-B) have openly admitted that their work in using psychology to influence public COVID reactions is unethical and totalitarian. Was the real aim to create so much fear and anxiety in the general population that they would willingly comply with dictates they would otherwise have rebelled against? Was it also the intention to create such a degree of fear that the majority of people, many of whom were perfectly healthy, would willingly allow themselves to be injected with these mRNA experimental ‘vaccines’ that have no long-term safety data?

Doomsday Preppers...

I was channel surfing yesterday and came across a show about people who take extreme measures to prepare for doomsday. The family on the episode had a garage filled with food and items to sustain themselves for months. The husband bought a large military surplus truck designed to travel on rough terrain. They went on a field trip where the man reveals a cavern with a steel door where they planned to live. They descended down by ladder and had plans to stay there in the event of some Apocalypse/world-ending catastrophe.

I see there was a landing with stairs down to the entrance. Hope he doesn't encounter 5 days of rain or the entrance will flood and they could be swimming inside that cavern!

Anyway, I went to YouTube to see if I could find that episode and to my surprise all kinds of 'prepper' videos showed up. Survival bunkers, living off the grid instructions, combat training, weapons needed, emergency food and medicine stockpile, protective gear, batteries, gas & generators, solar power, bicycle generators.

Some of the statistics say only 1% of the population will survive an Apocalypse.

When I hear the word prepper, I usually think of pepper... as in Dr. Pepper.
"Wouldn't you like to be a Pepper too?"

Viral twitter thread

It has gotten a lot of traction - Tucker Carlson even devoted a segment to it on its show - but it's really worth a read (won't take more than a few minutes)

Or for more in depth, the author wrote an article on the subject matter
