Words. Have you noticed how some words have fallen into disuse? I have wondered why this happens...
Is it that the idea the word encapsulates no longer exists? Or the object is now obsolete. I am more focused on words that express intangibles such as honour and integrity, I'm sure many more such words are no longer in popular use.
Why is that I ask myself.

I humbly conjecture, words such as honour and integrity impress upon us the ideas of being selfless, honest, humble and free of excessive self interest. Is it that we consider these words to be counter productive to our image or that we find such ideas not suitable abhorrent almost! Suitable such as in, we dare not cloak ourselves in the propositions these words express for we will be found wanting.

Have you such words? Why do you think they no longer appeal to our sensibilities?

TikTok must be the equivalent of "Monkey-see Monkey-do" on steroids. It's amazing to see people getting hurt when they follow some dangerous stunts of videos that others have uploaded.
I found a new one in the news today... Cooking chicken in cough medicine NyQuil.

I guess the list for Darwin Awards doesn't have much wait these days.

The security and logistics of possibly a million people wanting to converge in Westminster to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth is an event never to be repeated. I saw a few short videos of the procession from Buckingham Palace and thought of other famous people and how it was best to handle crowds like this.
Could more people witness a procession with less security risk if she were on a funeral train?

I did some research.
President Abraham Lincoln was the first in 1865.
His presidential rail car that was never used while he was alive, was fitted as a hearse and it traveled 1,654 miles passing through 180 cities in seven states.

President Eisenhower's funeral train passed through seven states during its journey to Abilene, Kansas, which Eisenhower called home.

I don't recall if entertainer James Brown had a funeral train, but he had private services with friends and family at an undisclosed location, then a public service at the Apollo Theater in New York and another viewing at the James Brown Arena in Augusta, Georgia.

Too late now, but I'm curious if the planners of the Queen's considered that.

When you were a kid and your parents found out you did something they forbid you to do, what was your excuse?

It could have been smoking in the alley with your buddies and your neighbor caught you and told your mother. Did you use the lame (peer pressure) excuse "All my friends were doing it. I didn't want them to call me a sissy for not joining them"
That made it right...right?

What about the one where your parents don't want you to do something your older brother is allowed to do? "Well, you let Jimmy do it, why can't I do it too?"
Ignoring that your brother is 8 years older.

Different situation and different rules that apply.

I think kids that resort to 'permission by association' as a way of increasing the envelop of what they are allowed to do. So if you were bad and have to 'go to your room and miss dinner' it's a tiny punishment, because you know you can sneak downstairs at 2am and help yourself a slice of pie and a glass of milk and no one will notice the next morning.

Do things like that for twenty years and it becomes habitual... the percentage of getting caught is rather low and overall the gain is much less than the pain.

Cheaters and pathological liars fall into the same category.
When caught, any excuse to pass the blame to someone else...

Some people are good about throwing smoke screens to 'squeak out' of a tight spot and not getting hurt.

Excellent podcast episode examining the increasing disconnect between the so called political elites and the people they're supposed to serve

I read a news article where people were surveyed about how often they changed their bed sheets. The average was every other week and single guys went as long as 3 months between changes. I find that unless you are living in a log cabin in the hills of Tennessee, three months to be totally unacceptable. They probably change sheets in prison more often than that!
My mother taught my (older) brother and me to do laundry... every week and that included sheets. While we had several sets, the dirty sheets would be removed and sent to the laundry room hamper. Often, the mattress would air-out for a while before clean sheets would be put on.
Visiting my brother in college once, he had a duffel bag filled with t-shirts and jeans (that was his basic attire) and due to financial reasons would only go to the coin laundry when he ran out of clean clothes. Since it was a dormitory, he could shower as often as time permitted so fear of stench wasn't an issue, especially as he shared the space with 3 other students.
One rock band I was in often did some short travel usually back the next day. We had a week long engagement that was a 6 hour drive so the nightclub provided an apartment for the gigging groups to stay at. We had to provide our own bath towels. There were a few racks for use to hang our towels.
I remember hand washing the towel after each use and near the end of the week the other guys towels were dingy... you can see which one was mine. One of the other guys attempted to grab my towel, "PUT THAT BACK!" I said

The cases against the orange rat are about to swallow him up one way or another.

In chess a gambit is offering up of relative value to be in a much better position.

What is about to be offered is Ivanka.

In a CRIMINAL case against the orange rat, Ivanka has been invited to testify
about what she witnessed, when she asked her father to please make the insurrection end. To tell the insurrectionists to go home.
Now, this is her real opportunity to be a real patriot. She can tell the truth and save her butt as a bonus. Sure, it would help convict her father, but that's just a matter of time anyway.
It would spare jail time for her, and that's a bonus.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't expect that is what will happen. Indeed, most people don't.
More likely, like Eric Trump, she will attempt to cover up for her father with evocation of 5th amendment cries. So far, they have been effective in delaying justice in the Congressional and the Civil cases against the orange rat.

But, this is much different, It is a CRIMINAL case. They do not play that game,
If someone refuses to testify, they are held in contempt, arrested, held in custody and then, when the prosecution is ready, forced to answer questions under oath.

Don't get me wrong, I don't believe Ivanka has the integrity to testify against her father. She will likely ATTEMPT to evade answering. It's just not going to work and it will likely force the DOJ to make it's first public move in siding with the prosecution.
That initial public involvement will hasten their own case against the orange rat.
So far, they have just quietly laid back, collecting evidence without publicly appearing to be involved.
So, Ivanka has a choice, But, the case against the orange rat will likely be strengthened either way. Do you feel lucky Ivanka ? Do ya ?

The first of August is Swiss National Day, which is celebrated with political speeches, bonfires, fireworks and lanterns.
