believe it or not, i also liked powell and rice aswell, and i see them as true conservatives with great integrity and honour.
their is an assumption out there that if you oppose the party 'status quo', then you must be completely against the party, and quite often castigated as a dissenter. in america, a country which is founded on individuals freedoms, i find this contrary to the foundations of that same liberty that is its backbone.
I have much respect for McCain(as he is my states senator) and I do find him to be one of the more "honest" politicians around. He did lose the more moderate base of the party during the election by nominating Palin. The issue with McCain more recently is that he seems to forget about being the "Maverick" of the senate now that conservatism is popular again. He recently ran against JD Hayworth(strong conservative) for senate. And he kinda just appeared disingenuis in his attempt to win against a conservative.
