NextToYou: Take it cool Antjo! Isn't it great to watch carefully what's going to happen really soon and than starting debating again about "Facts" and the "Thruth"...?

We've already seen it in Egypt and Sudan, despite the wau-wau's and warnings all around that the "Brotherhood" will take off now and so and so... As for me, my respect towards Arabs existed, but it grew immense during the last weeks.
laugh laugh thumbs up Sure, "truths" and "proofs" I feel myself back to my obssesive studies of all kinds of logic and meta-logic...laugh

AS for the Arabs, and Islam, I have also expressed my admiration for its long withstand against the arrogant and rapacious West. Probably, as history looks cyclic, more teachings are needed, more Ruad and Acre battles to come. I will also sit down and watch. wine

ttom500: According to source from AFP, Fidel Castro backs Chavez mediation plan for Libya

It is reported that Cuba's revolutionary leader and ex-president Castro, gave support today to a Venezuelan offer to mediate the crisis in Libya, calling it a "valiant effort" on the part of President Hugo Chavez.

The Venezuelan proposal has been flatly rejected by rebels who have taken the eastern half of Libya and are pressing in on Tripoli, where Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has vowed a fight to the death.

Castro praised Chavez for "making a valiant effort to find a solution without a NATO intervention in Libya."

"Its possibilities of success would increase if a vast public movement could be created before and not after an intervention, so that the atrocious experience in Iraq is not repeated in other countries," he said.

Castro's remarks were made in an article published by the local press.

Members of ALBA, a grouping of leftist Latin American countries led by Venezuela and Cuba, planned to examine Chavez's proposal today in Caracas.

I think that we need to assess why Castro and Chavez want to mediate this crisis in Libya. Could it be both run gov't so closely alike to Qdaffi's Libyan gov't, that they both see and fear street protestor raising up in thier countries....with each and every successful revolution that occurs in the ME.

So? Mediate a ceasefire in Libya. Give Qdaffii time and resources to get the situation back under control. Those protecting their failing oppressive regeimes.

It is amazing that Castro....once the man for the Cuban people....today is the man that would keep the Libyan people oppressed with Qdaffi. And the Hugo Chavez....once the man for the Venesulan people.....is now the man that would keep the Libyan people from a more free Libya.

Talk about losing the legacy of their revolutions in the South America and Carribean. Castro and Chavez have again proved themselves to being for the oppressor and against the oppressed.
Well mate, Castro is so alone that he has to resource on a clown like Chavez. On the other hand, you have proved one more time, from millions of previous proofs how bad and oppressive Castro is. Would he have had a better chance if he had kneeled down to your Hawks? Sure, everyhting about him will change automatically. As for the plan, I agree with the rebels to dismiss it, but do not forget to say, please, that many rebel groups there do not either want the West to poke its dirty nose.
Don´t be so forgetful. wave

Ship taking aid to Libya returns to Malta with cargo unloaded:

A ship chartered by World Food Programme carrying more than 1,000 metric tonnes of wheat to the Libyan port of Benghazi returned to Malta today without unloading its cargo due to security concerns, the WFP reported.

The "Soraya" was taking the wheat to Libya at the request of the Red Crescent.

At this point it is not clear what these "security concerns" were.

Oh nonono Antjo, you disappoint me now! scold It’s one of the most historical figures in Schwyzi, which again is very close to Libya. But correctly I should have started with Wilhelm Tell protecting UBS-Bank from Gessler, who just appeared around the corner! Tststs Antjo, and I had such a big image from you... confused

But let’s concentrate to other suggestions in here as well. I also think that we all should be grateful, because the whole world is over-fed by the American democracy received, but especially from its results professor Got it now Antjo? uh oh Good so boy handshake cheers grin cheers grin cheers

Az Zawiyah reportedly retaken by Gaddafi loyalists:

At least 30 civilians have been killed after security forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi, Libyan leader, attempted to retake the rebel-held town of Az Zawiyah, near the capital Tripoli, that has for days been defying his rule, witnesses have said.

The rebellion in Az Zawiyah - the closest rebel-held territory to the capital and also the site of an oil refinery - has been an embarassment to the Libyan authorities who are trying to show they control at least the west of the country.

Eastern regions of the country, around the city of Benghazi, have already fallen out of Gaddafi's control after a popular revolt against his four decades of rule.

"I have been to hospital less than 15 minutes ago. Dozens were killed and more were wounded," Mohamed, a Zawiyah resident, told the Reuters news agency.

"We have counted 30 dead civilians. The hospital was full. They could not find space for the casualties. We receive updates from the hospital and they say the number of casualties is rising."

Another resident, Ibrahim, said between 40 and 50 people were killed in the clashes.

Heavy shelling and machine gun fire has been reported near Ras Lanuf, the eastern oil port located 660km from Tripoli.

Reuters said rebels fired a sustained barrage of mortar bombs and rockets at a military base in Ras Lanuf today, which was met with artillery fire from the army.

"There are lots of flames, thuds and bangs. There is the wailing of sirens and puffs of smoke in the air," a Reuters correspondent reported.

Rebels had vowed "victory or death" as they headed towards the oil terminal, with reports that trucks of armed anti-Gaddafi fighters are heading towards the area.

"We're going to take it all, Ras Lanuf, Tripoli," Magdi, an army defector, told Reuters.

The United Nations reports that Moammar Gaddafi's government has officially asked that senior Libyan diplomat Ali Abdussalam Treki be granted credentials as Libya's new UN representative.

Treki served in many positions including foreign minister of Libya from 1976 to 1982 and again from 1984 to 1986, with his most recent appointment being Special Adviser to the Libyan leader.

Martin Nesirky, a spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said that the UN chief's office also received a second letter requesting that diplomatic credentials be withdrawn for Ambassador Mohamed Shalgham and Deputy Ambassador Ibrahim Dabbashi.

Both have publicly renounced Gadhafi for his actions and declared themselves as no longer representing the regime but representing the Libyan people.

Large explosion reported near Benghazi:

Gaddafi forces reportedly bombed an arms depot on the outskirts of Libya's second city of Benghazi in the east of the country.

The area around the arms depot at Rajma near Benghazi was cordoned off by rebel security forces. There was a strong smell of smoke and at least eight ambulances were seen ferrying casualties from the scene, a Reuters witness said.

"A lot of people have been killed. There are many people in the hospital. No one can approach, It's still very dangerous," said a resident who would only identify himself as Saleh.

He said he did not know what had caused the fire.

Another resident, who identified himself as Miftah, said a fire engine was destroyed by the conflagration and houses collapsed nearby.

It was one of biggest weapons depots in Benghazi region. The resident, who works at a power station nearby, said windows were broken by the explosion several miles away. "The fire is still raging and we fear more explosions," Miftah said.
