zeus911: I can confirm the EU Parliament's decision. Voting was 584 MEPs in favour of the resolution and 18 against. Basically all political groups, except the leftist GUE/NGL, supported a no-fly zones, although they differed on the need for UN authorisation.

Excerpts from the EP’s approved resolution:

"Stresses that the EU and its member states must honour their Responsibility to Protect, in order to save Libyan civilians from large-scale armed attacks; points out that no option provided for in the UN Charter can therefore be ruled out; calls on the High Representative and the Member States to stand ready for a UNSC decision on further measures, including the possibility of a no-fly zone aimed at preventing the regime from targeting the civilian population; emphasises that any measures enacted by the EU and its Member States should be in compliance with a UN mandate and be based on coordination with the Arab League and the African Union, encouraging both organisations to steer international efforts;”

"Calls for an immediate end to the brutal dictatorial regime of Colonel Gaddafi and calls on him to stand down immediately in order to prevent further bloodshed and to allow a peaceful political transition to take place;”

Sighhhh, Move it folks,....Last night I saw some of the video clips from residences got on their personal cells where Gaddafi's Military was gunning down, 12-13-14 year old children (REBEL'S) At that age the most U can call them is rebellious... the only weapons these children had were bricks and rocks...Heartbreaker for sure, while they continue to lose ground...sigh

RayfromUSA: Personally I don't even believe that there are any "Libyan rebels".

The US has effectively cut off access to Libya for anyone except the controlled media. So they can essentially publish any lies they want and they are diffused around the world as the official "truth".

The intent is to exert pressure on other countries to allow the US to militarily overthrow the Libyan government.

zeus911: A rebel source says forces loyal to Col Gaddafi have been firing rockets from offshore oil tankers at rebel positions onshore at the oil port of Ras Lanuf, Reuters reports. "I see them with my own eyes. The oil tankers are rocketing the town," the source said. "Planes are also bombing and rockets are being launched from the land."

RayfromUSA: It's beginning to look like the US and its puppets will once again be able to invade and occupy a supposedly sovereign nation, using the excuse that somehow it's to protect the world. Same old globalist BS.

Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley reporting on the phone from the front lines, just outside Ras Lanuf...

"We've been wondering for the last few days about why Gaddafi has not employed his full forces, and today we've seen those forces in action.

We were caught right in the middle as his forces out-flanked, and then out-bombed and out-shot the opposition forces. There was sustained aerial and artillery and mortar bombardment, and then following in by a flanking movement.

There have been a number of casualties. We've seen trucks going along the highway, but that's being shelled by Gaddafi forces all the way along. I counted ... 50 shells falling.

We've seen trucks with wounded lying in the back of pick-ups, and I think the casualty toll is going to be high. We also saw and heard extensive ground fire coming from the beach, we think there's been a flanking movement from the beach.

But it seems like the major offensive that we thought was going to happen is underway now."

Fear and Fireworks: Getting to the Truth in Gaddafi's Libya
Time.com

Vivienne Walt / Zawiyah – Thu Mar 10, 4:45 am ET

After a vicious six-day battle against rebel forces, Muammar Gaddafi's military on Wednesday might have retaken finally crushed the critical oil-refinery town of Zawiyah, in a fight which has killed scores of a few people and wounded hundreds an unknown number of others.

Who can tell what happened in Zawiyah's lethal war this past week? Certainly not me, nor the 120 or so other foreign journalists currently in the Libyan capital Tripoli, who have been invited by Gaddafi's regime to tell its side of the story. (See exclusive photos of rebels fighting Gaddafi.)

For a week, the government's press handlers have forbidden journalists from traveling the 30 miles to the fighting - and several who tried to sneak off to Zawiyah unofficially have been arrested, with one BBC television crew severely assaulted by security forces (more on that below). Three times our handlers loaded us into vans and a coach bus, telling us they were taking us to Zawiyah, only to change their minds. Then at about 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday night, they bundled about 40 of us into vans and tore off towards Zawiyah at a death-defying 110 miles an hour. They assured us that the military had routed from the town all the al-Qaeda fighters, whom Gaddafi insists have instigated Libya's three-week revolt.

Around midnight we pulled into Zawiyah's soccer stadium. As we clambered out, there were two loud explosions on the field, followed by several smaller ones, which sent many of us ducking for cover. But no, these were not signs of combat - remember, Zawiyah's battle is ostensibly over. It was a fireworks display set up on the soccer field, a victory party for about 200 residents gathered on the stands, wrapped in Gaddafi-green scarves and chanting their love for the leader, while the state-run Libyan Television filmed the celebration - as well as the sight of foreign journalists covering it. "The citizens and the soldiers worked together to kick out the troublemakers," said Ayman Kikly, a 29-year-old soldier in camouflage. "[The rebels] had heavy weapons with RPGs [rocket-propelled grenades] and some anti-aircraft weapons."
That did not square with the message from other residents, who told us that the rebels were easily defeated, with none of Gaddafi's soldiers killed and little loss of life to the other side (though no one could explain where the surviving rebels had gone.) "The houses have no destruction," said Abdul Khalek Harari, 20, yelling over the blasts of the fireworks. "The troublemakers blocked roads and burned tires, so that's the only damage you see."

So what did happen in Zawiyah, where fighting has closed Libya's second-biggest refinery and all mobile-phone connections have been blocked since March 3?

By March 5, the town's central square already "was reminiscent of Mogadishu," Somalia's war-torn capital, says Martin Fletcher, a veteran correspondent for The Times of London, who snuck into Zawiyah that day. He says he saw evidence of widespread attacks against civilians. "There were 20 graves in the middle of the square. The streets were littered with burning and burned cars. Apartment buildings were riddled with bullet and mortar holes. We were ferried around by rebels in an ambulance with a bullet hole in it." Doctors told Fletcher that during the three previous days, 30 people had been killed and about 70 injured..........Read on at Linkuh oh

You know those moments in life when you just think it can't get any worse and then some idiot just comes along to prove you wrong?

The AFP is the French Government's news agency and certainly isn't able to zip around inside Libya talking to rebels and then transmitting its reports out of the country, seeing that France is the only country that recognizes the "rebels" as the government of Libya.

With the nation under siege, you can bet foreign reporters are not allowed to just "do their thing" in Libya.

So just how are all these detailed, English language "latest news flashes" getting out every day?

My guess is that they are simply fabricated by western intelligence or news agencies.

I seriously doubt if there really are any real "rebels" at all.
There may be a handful of paid insurgents and provocateurs.

It's all part of the propaganda project to justify yet another massive military invasion and occupation.

In Vietnam, it was the totally fictive Gulf of Tonkin incident.
In Iraq 1, it was the fictive stealing of incubators by the Iraqis.
In Iraq 2, it was fictive yellow-cake and WMDs.
In Afghanistan, it was the fictive Al Qaeda terrorist army.

Every invasion has to be justified somehow.

You know Ray half the time you're dead on... but the other half is sometimes just so...paranoid. tinfoil hat

If it happened in Tunisia and Egypt with no involvement... why in the world is Libya special? I think you're dead wrong on this one. It's simply a youth wave this time... unfortunately gone to the Gaddafi dogs in Libya. jnho

Yes ray, you're right, this is all made up... I've seen fictional refugee ships in our harbours, I've talked to imaginary people who'd just escaped from an imaginary conflict, I've seen and photographed imaginary warships in our harbours, theres a couple of fictional escaped libyan mirage jets parked on our airfields, I have imaginary friends who were in Libya when all this started, we've had over 20,000 fictional refugees who passed through our island, some of whom who I imagined I saw in person at the airport, and theres a bunch of crazy Libyans in Malta who have imagined they got calls from their families back home telling them of unspoken horrors... Quite an achievement for the US intelligence when not even one US warship has made it here yet!
