time4fun4u: I appreciate the financial position in America, butno one is talking of owning Libya.Libya belongs to the people who are fighting for thier freedom.Eygpt,Tunisa still belong to the people.
Any way you slice it ......it's another military intervention putting our troops on the ground in another middle east country and assuming responsibility and expenses for re-structuring a new government and rebuilding the country ......
yes, that's reading into it somewhat ...but we've all seen this one before .....
jvaski: The I say let's send Spanish warships this time .....we're broke and tired of being the world's saviors .....
I dont think they have any! If they have, they cant go,becuase it would interfere with there siesta time~! Dont know what they have in all honesty, but i do know, they have sent planes to assist, saw it on the news. As a matter of interest,The American goverment are the ones who keep deciding to get involved around the world, and that cost money,at the detriment of the country.

It is a shame,i like American people, and i understand they want to be a major player, and they are,but no country can afford to keep throwing money at the worlds problems. The money needs to be spent at home. Many european countries, who dont have the income of America, are paying the price for thier involvmenObviously, thier involvment was smaller, because they are smaller, but it is all relative. We are seeing countries at the moment that are revolting against there goverments, and won, with no interference from outside, apart from getting foriegners out.Maybe this is a lesson to be learnt.
gininitaly: Consider for a moment what kind of American that could possibly be, 35 yrs in Bermuda of all places... playground of the ultra rich conservative right wing profiteers and politicians... how many REAL everyday Americans has he actually come in contact with? From conservative Switzerland to conservative Bermuda and back again.
Good morning to all... Nice sunny day in Malta today, with temp. of around 15c and a NW wind backing WSW Force 4, which basically means its not that smooth but not too bad for channel crossings.
This morning I'll start off with how this crisis has hit the local political scene. It is no secret that past Maltese Governments were at times rather friendly with Libya and even the current Prime Minister was actually visiting Gaddafi as recent as 9th February. So it comes as no surprise with some areas in Malta being uncomfortable in the current role we're playing and even more so were things to escalate to a confrontation.
That said, the general consensus and so far backed by both major political parties is to do our utmost. As a nation, we perhaps have the hardest decision as when all the warships go away, we will remain Libya's next door neighbor with whatever situation or whoever may be in power. Being a few hundred kilometers away from a rather unbalanced leader sitting on a array of weapons surely puts our island in grave danger.
Here we are not talking of 'sending' our people to fight for freedom, here we are talking of exposing our whole country to a delicate and potentially dangerous situation at the cost of all our lives.
Yet as the Maltese Prime Minister, Dr. Gonzi said yesterday in an interview on local TV, "We will not be idle if faced by genocide"

Pro-Gaddafi forces last night tried but failed to retake the town of Zawiyah, 30km West of Tripoli.
The government forces attacked the town with tanks but were repulsed by residents and troops who had defected, according to international reports. They too used heavy weapons.
Zawiyah fell to the protesters on Sunday and journalists said the residents had been braced for a counter-attack.
