It is very rich, can only eat one slice. NO there are no flies in it. It became known as shoo-fly pie because in the days of old, women would put the pies on the window sill to cool. When a fly would land on the pie, the baker would "shoo" the fly away with a wave of the hand

MimiArt7348: An ex-classmate back in high-school had cocoa trees in his dad's garden. He'd cut open the cocoa fruit and we'd then eat the seeds (?). It was sour tasting, not much to eat anyway. Just thin layer of sour pulp. We'd soon move on to chewing sugar cane!
I like eating that sour pulp off of the seeds, way more than eating sugar cane.

I am not familiar with the process of fermentation and the likes to prepare the cocoa beans it would be interesting to see it real and then get the cocoa beans just fresh.
For the sugar cane matter, my Father us to take us to a "molienda" where the sugar cane is processed and then they make molasses and make molds of solid molasses. We would bring some just made bread (bolillos) and then pour some hot molasses on them, that would be our treat, lovely memories.
