I think I'd want my children to experience as much of my life with me as was possible, and i theirs. Starting a family at a late age robs you both of many memories and shared adventures. The child may have photos, but their personal experience of you would be of an old man.
As far as I'm concerned, most people have children for the wrong (selfish) reasons anyway. But that's a whole nuther infirmary of wrinkly bits.

having a baby with a much younger woman to be is just madness at 62 and a new baby instead of playing football with he will be bringing you to collect pension .is for me just unfair on a child

I know of at least 4 extremely fit "working class" men over 60 with wives in their late 30's in my area who have children attending Primary schools. The kids are all doing very well in all subjects with the help of their fathers Knowledge and teaching / training / Instructor qualifications, much to the annoyance of a particular PC Head mistress with - it must be said less hands on teaching experience.

Something more stable than meeting a younger woman that wants to have their child should be a major consideration.
Over all circumstances could and should help dictate. At that age, being around for the child should be a major concern among other things as the child gets older.
To try considering it as as question is presented; I'd say yes. Mid 60's is far too old. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

More and more people leave that bit (having children) for later nowadays...
They are pursuing a career or already have a career and are not ready to risk leaving it to raise a kid...
Not having a stable relationships if any at all...
Having kids too old is almost as bad as having them too young.
Older parents are more relaxed, have more patience and understanding, more time and attention for the kids.
Having a kid without being pressured of circumstances and knowing that you can give the time and love is the best time and that might not always be the "proper" time...
But after all it's all a matter of love, istn't it...

Both girls i remember having a really old dad at school tried to bribe me into being their friend, we would go around to their house wth empty bin bags and leave with chocolate, crisps, ice cream and basically a feast. Oh and the parties we very very literally brought the house down. Not that either dad would ever say much, and not that either daughter would listen.

They both got good grades though. At least at high school, I never had much to do with them past 18 I know one of them fell pregnant by the boy who used to eat chalk.

Steph's Dad was always at work and I think this was his response to not being around, and Sarah's Dad knew he wasn't going to be around much longer in fact I'm sure he died of cancer. Which isn't to say all older parents are this way, but I don't think it's pure coincidence that these were the homes where you got away with murder.

Everyone is different. I personally would not want to have children at that age and if you are just doing it to keep your partner happy, you are doing it for the wrong reasons. If you do really want a child at that age you really need to consider a number of things like how is your body holding up now and think about how it may be in 20yrs (at least). There are positives and negatives to every decision we make but remember, this decision affects 3 people. Think of what that child will need and are you able to provide it. (in saying that; a lot of young parents are crap too) We don't really know what we're in for until we are there and in the situation.

Luckily women can't have children in mid 60's,,, although it has happened.
So for the man to be mid 60's, and the woman half his age , makes a difference, i guess.

Some men at 60 are fitter than a 40 year old but they will be 70 when the child is a lively 10 year old.
