I don't know if I ever was told a particular color 
probably because, it may go in one ear and out the other.. lol I wear whatever I want. I am not the type to say "How's this?" Or try on many outfits.

I think most Western men look good in dark colors. I think subconsciously we think of "suits". Men should only wear dark suits... or be arrested by the fashion police
Few.. look good in another color. And few look good in white suits. IMO. I think skin tone has a lot to do with it.
White-White men, should not wear white.

one woman melted in giving me a compliment saying blue was my colour I didn't really take her opinion on board until another woman said the same thing.........blue blue blue ...........I even felt blue before haha there might be a link?

It's to do with your own colouring, Pedro.
Because you have a dark skin tone, you can wear light-reflective colours, which is kinda bright colours. Being fair, if I wear yellow, or bright, yellowy greens, it reflects off my skin like a buttercup.
The human eye likes contrast: dark hair and blue eyes make these features stand out and easy to see. It's why the Irish are considered handsome.
If you wear blue, it'll 'pick out' your eyes even more. Try to go for blues which are of a similar tone to your eye colour, but maybe a darker blue.
If I wear darkish, mossy greens, it makes my eyes glow like cat's eyes.
I could go on, but men tend not to see colour as well as women and few people see colour as well as I do. I can see the individual pigments in paint and dyes, not just the colour of the mix.
