rohaan: here is something to think about: for a long, long time police officers here in the United States have had a high, high level of “professional career incident immunity”. Perhaps this is changing, but not entirely and not quickly. A standard response during after-event interviews (with said officers”), is ; “I was in fear for my life”. This is just too darned easy—why, anyone could say that if they are startled, hear a noise, see a shadow, etc...THe point being, reform is slow, and obviously there are officers who still feel cavalier about taking a suspect out. You would think with the current situations p.o. would be all the more careful to not be in the wrong. I know several police officers who are entirely top-shelf, wonderful people. If they can be great community assets and role models, it can be done. I also am acutely aware that it is also reasonable that severe action is taken. But NOT in these latest cases.
Thanks rohaan I guess we have officers over here with the same attitude but ours are unarmed as you know. Our problem is knifing which can be just as dangerous.

I guess if someone had not called the police over 2 women supposedly fighting none of this would have happened.

dunno

galrads: It was a tense moment for sure. Why or what was so important that Blake had to get something from his car, under a car seat. Did he want to give the law enforcement officers candy he had stashed there. Does mr blake have a history of carrying armed automatic weapons he could use and spray lead through all of the cops in just a few seconds.... is that what he was going for... .. i don’t know enogh to draw any conclusions yet ... is there a good clear audio file recording what went down.
I posted the video of the incident but like some you may not be able to view it. All I know is what I have read in the media and the video. He was delivering gifts to his pal on the estate for his child ,a fight broke out and he separated the women then went to his car to presumably leave.

As for reaching for a weapon with 2 guns already pointed at him who knows but I find it hard to believe with his kids in the car.

As always my point has been about the amount of bullets in a man's back which is unreasonable force. Just my opinion of course.handshake

germanspitz: I've just watched the video of Jacob Blake and am horrified that a policeman could do this at close range to another human being.

I only know what has been in the media e.g. the man had just broken up a fight between 2 women and was returning to his car where his 3 kids were waiting so await further details but this video is appalling as the man was grabbed and shot at close range 7 times.

What is wrong with people if they find this acceptable .

It's not acceptable that seven or possibly eight bullets needed to be fired at close range into that man's back. It's not acceptable that his three children in the vehicle had to witness the shooting of their father by the police. They will carry that image and trauma with them for the rest of their lives. It is not acceptable this man may either die of his injuries or end up paralyzed for the rest of his life. There is another video showing a different angle of the incident where the police did have the man down on the ground at one point and I'm wondering why three officers weren't able to restrain him and instead, were beating him up which in my mind, isn't the way to de-escalate as the police are apparently trained to do.

I found this article titled " How Police Training Contributes to Avoidable Deaths To save lives, cops must be taught to think beyond the gun belt." that's an interesting read. wave

I do hear this, and similar arguments. It’s a tough cookie. The police are given a very wide avenue—-up until recently, it was pretty much unheard of to arrest and charge officers of the law with a crime. Even when taken before grand juries, they were systematically exonerated. Every time. This current move to hold them accountable is relatively new, here, anyway.

If the police had a gun on Blake why didn’t Blake tell the police about the children in the back seat of his car before he walked away from police. The police are very aware of the racial tension Existing today. The police are also aware of our first amendment rights to take photos or video tape them or anyone else in public.

UPDATE

This morning Blake's uncle was on the news. He said his nephew is awake and saying he is sorry for all the trouble he has caused everyone.

The uncle also said that doctors say in due time he might be able to move his limbs but right now he is paralyzed from the waist down.

His mother visited him in the hospital. She spoke to the public asking them to show their support for her son but to do it in a peaceful way.

Unfortunately protesters have burned parking lots in Kenosha, Wisconsin destroying hundreds of cars. Buildings have been burned to the ground.

A man was running through the crowd with a gun shooting people. Three have been shot, two have died.

Soonyuleknow: Why were the police telling Blake to drop the knife?

A key eyewitness in the police shooting of Jacob Blake on Sunday in Kenosha, Wisconsin, says that police told Blake to “drop the knife,” though he himself did not see Blake carrying a knife at the time.

The eyewitness has been identified by the Associated Press as Raysean White, and as the person who made the original cell phone video of the shooting.

It looks like he may have been trying to get to the car to hide the knife, after he struggled with the police. There is now a second video that shows him on the ground. It's odd that officials are not releasing information about finding a weapon or not. I think the guy who shot the video needs to take a closer look at what it shows before he comments. The girlfriend has already lied about Blake struggling with the police.

A word to the wise. If you are holding something in your hands and the police are yelling drop the knife, you should drop what you have in your hands if it is a knife or not, because they think you have a weapon. People have been shot holding a cell phone.

Until this incident settles and the outrage of the incident calms down I guess we will never know.

The Police are going to be extremely careful about what they divulge for fear of further back lash. Whatever happened prior to this incident ,a law enforcement officer firing 7 bullets into a man's back is going to be extremely hard to explain. J.M.O.
