Unfortunately there are people who claim to be Christian or Anti Christian just to fit in with a certain group. Does not make a good cae for either.
As for 'bactracking on the book,: I think you read it, you take what you understand, apply faith to the rest, when you do have questions approach it from a positive point of view, and use study guides, groups to help you grasp the concept of how the part that troubles you fits in with the rest of the text. The Bible is a complex work, yet very straight forward. As with any field of study you will get out of it what you put into it, and associate with it. If you associate the Bible with positive experiences, I'm sure you'll discover that it maintains integrety.

To say that because tthey get comfort from belief means they are manipulated is jumping to a judgement. It implies they are weak willed, and subject to being manipulated. I think every case deserves the respect that the belief is concious.
