Wish I had that answer for others. I freely admit: I HAVE NOT READ THE ENTIRE BIBLE. I am conversant with it. I am working on reading it. I can tell you what I GET from the information I have either read or been exposed to.
The WHY of God's creation? As A gift. The gift of life and awareness. To have a 'friend' if you will. God walked with Adam. He dealt with Adam as we do a child in some ways. "DO not eat from this tree or you will surely perish" (This may not be a precise quotation.) You would tell a child to keep away from the fire because they might get burned. To me the Bible is the wisdom of an elder, who knows the challenges I will face in life, giving me the knowledge, judgement and wisdom to survuve, grow and thrive, until oneday I will be accepted as a peer. God wants our fellowship. Best I can do for you off the top of my head.

Think think think think Nope still don't think it is from such an obscure source. Red is a color which contrasts well with white, and is a natural color, (unlike purple) which could be used as a dye to make fabric colorful, it's a happy color.
i think it makes a of sense of the symbolism of christmas from a nonreligious point of view.in fact i think it practically explains it and if you look it up research it the mushroom, it seems to be a part of human folk law itself. it is used to kill flies though gnome

Not like it? Hey I wish you both the best. Maybe she'll mellow you out and help you overcome your love of self. If she can deal with you the world will most surely be a better place.
Catch her while you can Ray. And if you do catch her, stay caught!
hahahaha, yes, i readily agree on that one Yumie - but I think he is entirely amusing and its so refreshing to have somebody on these threads who has dealt with the fear of speaking his mind, more so, who has worked his way through the imposed superstitions and actually is 'able' to speak his own mind - there arent enough of us here - yet !!!!!!
I reckon that with every cycle of the year, more people begin to realise that that it isnt actually Christmas they are celebrating but a mixed bunch of ancient traditions which have been swept up into a spendfest

I am not even going to get to serious in the debate about Christmas traditions. In The USA our Christmas traditions are such a hodgepodge of different cultures and even regions that going from one side of my state to the other I can run into a dozen 'differences'. Our Christmas traditions assimilated a lot of tribal cultures over the years. Santa Claus from St Nick, etc, lots of Germanic influence, English whatever. The date we celebrate Christmas is not biblical, we are celebrating the Birth not the date. Holly, mistletoe, evergreen, all show LIFE in the winter, a sign of HOPE of spring to come. A lot of symbolic images. Not doctrine, not necessarily a integral part of faith. Just a part of the celebration of the gift of life.
Cut and paste away Trish. and anyone else who wishes, have at it

as I said before, lots of sources to Christmas traditions. Wal Mart is not mentioned at all in the Bible, nor Nintendo, Santa, Reindeer, or Jingle Bells. They are just evolution in action.
'To me the Bible is the wisdom of an elder, who knows the challenges I will face in life, giving me the knowledge, judgement and wisdom to survuve, grow and thrive, until one day I will be accepted as a peer.'
I wonder if there is anyone alive who HAS read the entire Bible who does believe in it? Because once you read that thing through there are some serious holes in it. Newton - himself a religious scholar - as I have pointed out before, wrote of its notable corruptions and inconsistencies while being a devout believer.
It is such a sad thing that people do not have an open mind to the amount of books written 'by elders' to mankind because they have not the same following.
But of this: 'To me the Bible is the wisdom of an elder, who knows the challenges I will face in life, giving me the knowledge, judgement and wisdom to survive, grow and thrive’ I respect.
I also admire your faith, Gnome - stead fast and staunch - in what you believe.
But I do not have FAITH in what you believe, and that is my compromise.
Merry Christmas Gnome!!!
My accusations have never been to Christ, they have been to those who have followed him poorly and dared to called themselves Christians.
But who indeed can follow such a man and truly BE Christian?
I am retiring from this thread for Christmas – it is indeed a day to celebrate a change of human morality for the better (but not for the best - in my opinion).
Because it is SUPERhuman morality, and we cannot walk on water and heal our wounded with our hands.
I seek some other way to heal our wounded with our heads. And indeed there can be no healing where there are no wounds.
Yes, indeed, but the basis of this symbolism is a pine tree in the snow with gifts placed beneath it.
It is indeed an amalgamation of so many different things but it is a great day where adults get to give gifts to children who are the real gifts they themselves were given...
Here's a cut and paste you might consider over Christmas gnome. It illustrates (in my view) what is wrong with this otherwise interesting thread.....
An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: "argument to the man", "argument against the man") consists of replying to an argument or factual claim by attacking or appealing to a characteristic or belief of the person making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim. The process of proving or disproving the claim is thereby subverted, and the argumentum ad hominem works to change the subject.
That said, happy Christmas to you and yours and to Ray and his. The same to Trish and all others on the thread.
"Are you willing to raise our empire of hate and evil Onto the whole world and to deliver man and every Living creature onto our hands?"
[The three:] "Yes, master!"
"Are you willing to tell man lies about world's past, How he was made and to supress the truth for all times?"
[The three:] "Yes, master!"
"Are you willing to deliver your souls onto our hands To become powerful, famous and rich?"
[The three:] "Yes, master!"
"Ho Ho Ho! So it shall be done!
Masquerade
Masked souls and blackest minds, mandrakes of the dark Pitch and poison in their veins, they wear the evil's mark Corruption, hate and deepest scorn they teach "Obey and work!" the holy law they preach
They've sold your soul, your flesh and blood to the whims of evil gods They've changed the world to hell on earth to save their evil plots With murder, war and treachery they rule If you trust in their machinery you're a fool
Masquerade, hiding their black-heart Masquerade, evil and dark Masquerade, treason and lies Masquerade, covers their evil eyes
They rule the world by telling lies, dripping poison in your ear Keeping up appearances, revelation is their fear They control your mind with hate and evil lies Religion is the devil in disguise
Masquerade, hiding their black-heart Masquerade, evil and dark Masquerade, treason and lies Masquerade, covers their evil eyes
So open up your clouded eyes, the conspiracy to see If you wipe away their evil world, there's a chance of living free The ancient tales tell holy laws: The truth! So be aware of what they are and they'll lose
Masquerade, hiding their black-heart Masquerade, evil and dark Masquerade, treason and lies Masquerade, covers their evil eyes

Even if there are still further details to discover you just ask an astrophysicist and she or he will enlighten you on the mechanics of "the building of our solar system".
Stars form in regions of dense nebulae, consisting of gas and dust. Darker clouds are regions of thicker dust and gas, which can shrink and form small groupings of stars. For its first 50 to 100 million years, the sun and solar system were probably embedded in a region that looked like this.
In the original solar system, the sun was surrounded by a disk-shaped cloud of dust and gas after it formed, 4.55 billion years ago. In this cloud, or "solar nebula", innumerable particles of dust condensed out of the gas and orbited the sun in nearly circular orbits. Adjacent particles underwent collisions at relatively low speed, in the same way that high speed race cars moving around a circular track might nudge into each other. This will ultimatively lead to planets to form.
The rest is time and evolution....and with lots of luck there will be life.
Fact is that we actually can observe these developments happening in other parts of our universe. The only thing we have not seen so far is the development of live elsewhere.

To Killagain:
If you insist on postig poetry and song lyryics could you at least have the courtesy to put them in some kind of context for the rest of us?
We get it that you don't believe there is a God. We get it that you are an angry young man. Most of us don't get anything other than that from your posts. How do they apply to the topic, What do you see in them that you feel will enlighten the rest of us. Feel free to post, but I don't think anybody really wants to hear threats, or blind lyrics. Help us out here.

Fact is theory, theory is fact, right?
Scientific method allows 'luck" now? In that case looks like anything goes. I know that there is some physics rule about conservation of energy that states that there has to be matter for any vreation, so we both are stuck with the problem of where did the origon originate.
