paddys shotgun wedding

Well on the day that paddy
and mary were to wed
marys family found him
tucked up in his bed
eventually with much protest
he finally made the church
though he fully intended
to leave her in the lurch
you see he loved his freedom
but he just came unstuck
the day that he met mary
signaled his bad luck
he tripped one early morning
coming from the butchers arms
and bumped into mary
sending her into alarm
but when she saw his rugged looks
she said he ll do for me
that moment paddy's fortune
turned into misery
so on this day when fast asleep
the knock came at the door
twas marys older brothers
along with one twelve boar
so dressed at last reluctantly
paddy made the little church
with footsteps ever slow
shaking like a corn of wheat
he did nt want to go
the parson spritely said
do you take mary kelly
to be your wedded wife
and as he did he felt the words
cut him like a knife
the words just made him shudder
and he really felt the dread
to think for a lifetime
with mary he would be
it seemed that ruddy prisoners
were better off than he
and so upon that fateful morning
that shotgun wedding day
put wife and man together
into domestic bliss
while paddy never wanted
the very least of this
