Stolen Horses

The love of horses knows not it's own depth
'Til the hour of separation. -Unknown

Three horses taken from the field one night
By hands of strangers without plight;
How bold they are to take the horse,
Those who are without remorse.

If they could trust, as those they steal
They just might find an honest deal. - Peter J. Hurst

On March 23rd, I had bought a buckskin pony at the Cleburne Horse Sale. I had him delivered that very night and settled him into a stall in the barn. The very next morning at 7:00 AM March 24th, the barn gate was ajar and the three Paint geldings were missing. We recruited some neighbors, the wranglers and ourselves and fanned out like a covey of quail to search. We searched five miles out from the ranch, exploring abandoned properties, talking to other neighbors, etc.. NO HORSES.

We searched until 1:00 AM with no sign of the horses anywhere. We filed a stolen horses report with the county sheriff's department who took photos, copies of brands, etc... My boss who is the county sheriff got on the phone and contacted sherrifs from six other counties to lean on the deliveryman who was the last person besides myself to see the horses. We made it very "HOT" for him to move those horses. I also got onto netposse and had fliers made up of the horses with their information which contacts every sheriff's department in the US, plus every sale barn in the US. Last Tuesday, Mr.Bear e-mailed those fliers to the deliveryman. Tuesday night, the horses were "found" running loose by a Sheriff's Deputy ten miles from our ranch. One of the horses had been hit by a truck. He has a nasty gash above his left eye and on his neck. Eighty stitches to put him back together. We figure the deliveryman was going to sell the horses and cut his losses when it got too "HOT" for him. He dumped them in our area to be found. We have a bill of $1,074.40 with the vet bill, impound fees, etc. We are NOT happy about this at all.

We fully intend to prosecute and on top of all of this "FUN", I learned that I need to have a hysterectomy on May 11th. sigh

Rebel Rouser

Reaching to unpure souls like fingers to lips that tremble and hide, is the mind numbing howl of the one they call the "Rebel."

Over vast miles of flat ground the howl stretches to the souls, and clings to awaken lost fears and desires.

The main fear was seeing this rebel, for he had such power and motives to move one, to the point that he was treated as being higher than an alpha.

Sun piercing eyes glow from afar, as his physical form seems to blend into transparency.

Soon, his body emerges forth like a butterfly from its cocoon, and there he stood, awaiting fate and reason.

The nauseatingly bright sun cast bits of light upon his thick coat of rich maroon.

A soft creme was seemingly painted upon his face, to mirror a mask, and reddened to his paws.

Taut muscles bent with each step he took into the clearing.

His conformation showed good health and spirit although it was just that, his spirit that he liked to hide from others` scorning faces.

He was by no means an alpha, but he let his tail fly high with the pride of his heritage though he didn`t approve of looking proud about anything but his own failures.

A sly vindictive look spread across his face, as his eyes pinpointed a rocky ledge, which he complacently walked to.

Lying upon the cold hard surface, he yawns, exposing a deep blue stripe down his tongue, and closes his eyes.

Marmalade The Cat.....Children's poem

Poor Marmalade was so unhappy
since her family moved house
she lay in her bed looking all floppy
with no interest in chasing a mouse.

She missed all the cats from town
since moving to the country
all she could do was sulk and frown
the life had gone out of her she felt so empty.

Then one day a new kitten did arrive
a kitten called blue
Marmalade began to feel alive
all at once she knew what to do.

She'd show Blue how to catch mice
how to steal food when no one was looking
how to groom her coat making it look nice
on cold winters nights they'd lay snuggling.

Marmalade settled down her head resting on a shoe
stretching out and yawning
with her little paw around Blue
she fell into a contented sleep till morning.

Dear Fellow Critters

Hello my fellow critters.
I will give you a lot of jitters.
My name is boom boom.
My bark is a signal of doom.

Can you hear the sounds of my bark.
It's a little bit dark.
Please open the light.
So it will be all bright.

Let's play a simple game.
Let's see who has the best aim.
Throw me my delicious treat.
Time for me to take a sit.

The spoiled dog is winning.
Please stop from crying.
There's always a next time.
But, the treats will always be mine.

Little Cat

Little cat what are you at as in the woods you go,
Are you chasing birds and mice I'd really like to know.

You wander back when you need food though you really are quite fat
Then jump up on my knee or go to sleep upon the mat.

Little cat what are you at for two days you've been gone
I've looked in the house and searched the woods you've never stayed out so long.

Oh little cat at last your back and you look so very thin
If you could only speak I'd like to know where you have been.

Ah! Now I know my precious pet I followed you to where,
through the hedge in an old wood box four tiny new kittens lying there.

You really were a clever cat you didn't make a fuss,
Just had your kittens by yourself and then came home to us.

One Friday night at the trots (old Harold Park)

Rapt in attention
As the pace car quickens
Horses score up behind
Like a phalanx
Seven off the front
And five behind
Makes a full field of twelve

Drivers in formation -
Now bursting off the arm
To settle down at speed
In two neat rows

The first sectional is fast - 27.6 seconds
And they are going like last weeks pay out there!
Back markers get busy and the field has already
Covered 600 yards

The driver in front plays on the reins
In an attempt to slow down the field
Only to hear a three wide train -
All flashing silks and thundering hooves
Now rushing around his outside

Eight hundred meters are gone
And the're already three wide-
Has the favorite gone all too soon?
At six to four on she makes a bid for the top
Only to land in the breeze

Another fast split 29.2 seconds
(Only slightly slower again)
They burst past the post
And out rings the bell-
Another fast lap now to come

At the burst of the bell
Horses quicken their feet
And drivers lean back in their gigs

Number one she still leads
Flashing silks gold and green -
Will she be an Emerald City girl tonight?

The driver leans back harder
To slow down the field
And succeeds in a 30.9 second split

The mare gets a breather -
But now they come faster
Rushing three
And now four horses wide

The home turn approaches
And they all fan out
To each get a shot at the post
The crowds on its feet screaming and cheering
For the tough little mare to get beat

The favorites now gone
(Loud swearing beside me)
But still the game mare just hangs on
They flash past the post
And I can see now shes lasted
To get up at forty to one!

Dogs and Cats

After working hard on the job all day
Feeling worn out, tired and very stressed
It's nice coming home and seeing your dog
Tail wagging, smiling, happy, full of zest

Dogs are faithful and also man's best friends
They usually seek their owner's protection
If they sense danger or threatening action
Their bark can create quite a commotion

Cats are very lovable animals
Their presence can be good therapy too
Caressing them and hearing their purring
Can also be quite comforting to you

Cats can be seen licking their coats quite clean
They have an aversion to filthiness
Snuggling close to you on the couch or bed
You need not fuss about their tidiness

Dogs and cats are the favourite household pets
They enrich our lives with company
All they ask of us is food and water
In return, they make us very happy

The Black Galgo (Spanish Greyhound)

I am just a black Galgo, nothing much to see
But really there is so much more, for you to see in me
I cannot help my colour, Nor can I help my breed
But I am a black Galgo, and desperately in need
People like the brindle, or the plain or the tan
But I am black, I can't change that, if only someone can
Why can't you see through the black and see my aching heart
Why can't you see the the love in me, it goes right off the chart
But black is black and we are shunned, our fate is to wait to die
We're forgotten, we're scared and invisible, please give us a try
Black is beautiful so they say, so why are we still here
We are beautiful dogs with beautiful hearts, so let us melt your fear
Open up your own hearts, please open up your mind and see
That black really is beautiful, and beautiful and black is me

Spices of Life (soulgoddess's challenge)

many and varied are the spices
that clutter through my life
one in particlar springs to mind
it was back in the depths of time
summer of 1965 in ireland
at fifteen years of age
I knew it all couldn't be told
I had a fancy to ride this horse
at a stables near Bantry Bay
For a few weeks I tried to persuade
the owner to let me ride him
he kept telling me no, no and still no
but at long last he agreed to my request
but first round the field he made me ride
well that was easy although not in control
I made it look as if I was by pulling up
on each and every corner ok he said
you can go out but you will be the first
from England if you come back together
so oft we set up hill along the coast
towering clifts to my right a wall ahead
I could not hold him oh no, no way
as he bolted up the hill i knew, just knew
I had to do something fast or we were dead
the gap between the wall too narrow
with thick trees along the wall
near 400 yard drop on my right to rocks
so I did the only thing I could
I turned his head hard to the left
brambles four to five feet high
and so thick you couldn't see their end
we crashed down hard but I kept the reins
so mounted and oft we went again slowly
twice more that wretched horse bolted with me
but I can say with foolish pride
we both returned to the stables together
I had learnt a lesson that day for sure
never bite off more than you can chew
I never ever asked to ride him again

My Bestest Pal

My pal is one of a kind
welcoming and gay

A sweetness he emits that none compare,
a heart of gold is all he is

My pal is the one i saw,
lost in a corner all forlorn.
through his suffering i helped him through
unwanted he was,
a treasure for me that day,
he became

My friend is all i ever want to have
he made me realise that love still exist
and is special in its own way.

I remember how i tended him
and scared my friend was,
hiding under the chair for a week without sound.

I tried to show him my heart was what i offered,
telling him it will be ok ,
after so much he gave me his first kiss of affection even if than he ran and hid scared to trust again ,
to me a success was that day
for i found a friend in that sweet and lovely act.

Time passed by and he trusted again in every way,
i gained his love and tenderness and realised how blessed i was to have helped him that day.

He was beaten and i gave him life and hope and when i needed the most he helped me believe in love once more and gave me his thanks by being always my side,
my bestest furry friend i could ever have! :) .
