Memento Mori

Out of the earth came sensational fire
Red hot glowing charred embers under me
Careful to walk in such fiery mire
Cautious about burns in the third degree

Standing still over the cauldron's hot edge
I watch smoke pilloring high overhead
Raising my arms to pray and make my pledge
What to do when I see the dragon's head

Enchanted lands beyond mythical lore
Keeping a child listenning in a trance
Imagination to brace oneself for
Mighty as St George with his golden lance

The fun and thrill of those bedtime stories
When chilverly was "Memento Mori"

How we have Forgotten....

Long, long ago in school we played,
And history books were being made.
A sod of turf from bog so rotten,
T'is amazing how,
We have forgotten....

Cold feet, cold hands, class room bare,
Most of the kids with knotty hair.
On wooden bench we'd sit our bottoms,
T'is amazing how,
We have forgotten....

Teacher roar, Teacher shout,
In one ear, the other out.
The learning in our heads was trobbing,
But, its amazing how,
We have forgotten....

Eating lunch, with ice cold milk,
Those hard harsh days would make you think.
The soles of our shoes,
With holes from trotting,
Again, amazing how,
We have forgotten....

But did we really forget at all,
We remember a lot from when we're small.
The history,
The hair,
The heads that were trobbing,
I don't think there's a lot,
We have forgotten....

The Day of the Axe

If memory serves me correctly
I must have been about four
Left at home with grandmother
To watch and keep me safe

Being a child there’s something I said
Can’t quite rightly remember what
But she changed, demon possessed
With an axe she came chasing me

I fled for my life round the yard
With a banshees wail she gave chase
Had she caught me I would not be here
To write of this terrifying tale

Round and round for my life I ran
The axe whistled past my head
Thank God my father came home just then
To him for safety I fled

Now you might think this is a tale
But to the truth I’d gladly swear
Even now at sixty three
I remember like yesterday

Hannahs Day at the Farm

There goes Hannah
climbing a tree
to reach a rooster that
crowed,"cockle doodle dee?!"

Hannah was confused
the rooster was too
So Hannah taught him
to sing cockle doodle doo

There goes Hannah
swimming in the lake
to rescue a duckling that
said, "quake quake quake"

Hannah sad, "I'm truly sorry
but its a well known fact
that little ducklings say
quack, quack, quack!"

Into the barn went our
little Hannah Rae
to teach the long eared donkey
how to bray

It seems our furry friend
was a little mixed up
for instead of braying HEE HAW
He was braying, "Hiccup Hiccup"

Even the dappled gray mare
wouldn't whinny or neigh
She just let out a "Tweet"
when Hannah offered her some hay

The cat mewled, "Cluck"
"Oink", howled the dog
the goose honked, "Baaaa"
"Woof" grunted the big, fat hog

As Hannah was leaving the barn,
she stopped to pet the cow
who looked at her and
bellowed, "Meow"

Our Hannah shook her head
and said, "That wouldn't do
cows really should
just say MOOOO!!"

Hannah was confused
what was happening on the farm?
was there cause
to raise an alarm?

She went to ask Gram and Papa
Papa said with a smile,
"The animals change places
it happens once in awhile"

Grammy said, "They get bored
and pretend to be something else
but by the end of the day,
they are back to being themselves."

Its ok to pretend
but its always best
to be proud of who you are cause
God made you different then the rest.

A Childs Adventure children's poem

Racing down the stairs
ready for the day's adventures
in a hurry to get outside
mother making me eat first

I bolt my food as fast as possible
then flee outside and down the road
stopping at Bobby's on the way
his mother telling us behave

Together we head for the woods
right deep into its heart
there a large tree stood
with branches hanging low

We climbed up to our tree house
checked around, then settled down
would today be the day we thought
eyes fixed fast on a falcon's nest

They should be due to hatch now
a cluster of three eggs in nest
look says Bobbie there is a crack
sure enough he was right

Fascinated we watched the chick hatch
struggling to break free of its shell
wet and sticky looking very bedraggled
to us lads it was the most beautiful sight

Mommy are you okay

Mommy are you okay?, can you please forgive me mommy, I am so sorry..
I didn't mean to spill the milk, or bounce the ball in the house, or yell at Tommy when I was in my room to "just get out"
At times like these I need a hand helping,....or is it a helping hand?... Like these sentences your whereabouts I just can understand.
I thought that we were just playing a game of hide 'n' seek, but when I was done counting......those seconds, turn into weeks.
As much as I thought that I was good, I must have been really bad, And for that reason I think, just because of me,...your not coming back.
I promise if you do, I will be a good boy, I'll eat my vegitables, clean my room, and pick up all my toys.
I am so confused mommy, how did I make you feel this way? Made you feel the feelings you feel, But feelings I thought were okay....But the feelings I made you feel made you go away.....I don't know what to do with myself now never mind today,
I love you so much mommy but I am so really lost, I can't tell what shoe goes on what foot, or what happened to my other sock....
I'm so sorry for whatever I did that made you go away, I don't know much, But I do know that I will love you more tomorrow, than I did today

A Childs Wish

a whisper goes from door to door
the gypsies are in town
mothers usher their children in the safety of the house

the laundry is taken of the line in a hurry
in the house quick quick
doors get locked now
they are never locked

a little girl peeks out the window
she knows what has been said
the gypsies take the little children

the little girl with blond curly hair
she loves the gypsy girls
their long black hair
the shiny golden earrings
she wishes they take her

the gypsies park their big cars and campers by the stream
they have fun making music and dance
the little girl knows because
her brother took her there

at night in her bed she prays
please god let me be a gypsy girl too
so I can play and dance and sing
but god don't want her to

the gypsies leave town
things are back to normal again
the little girl looks out the window
and silent says good bye

maybe next year you will take me
and her mothers thread:
"if you are bad I will sell you to the gypsies"
still clear in her head

I will be bad then my mom will sell me
I can dance and sing and play all I want
and I won't be punished ever again
for I will be

a gypsy!

Witch Night

Dragon's breath, skin of toad, bat wing, owls feather, fire just started.... cauldron hanging heating up, moon cast shadows, moon lit mist passes by.... tail of snake, lip of fish, boil cauldron boil, pig's feet oil.... broom in the corner, cat's back arched, bat's in the air stealth on by.... boil cauldron boil, ancient book's open, a spell to be cast, oh wicked one with sinister grin, soon spell be cast, boil cauldron boil, words said right make it last. . . .

This Old Porch Swing

I sit upon this old porch swing.
The creaking, moaning sounds, it sings.
Weathered wood and rusty chains.
The youth I had, through thoughts regained.

Between the trees a flicker flash of light.
At dusk, a humid, breeze less night.
Children chasing glowing stars.
To hold them tight in Mason jars.

Barefoot babes, green tarnished knees.
Playing games between the trees.
Mother May I, Hide And Seek.
Count to ten and don't you peek.

Memories come play with me.
Fill my mind so happily.
Remember slumber time on swing.
For this my mind to me did bring.

I sit upon this old porch swing.
The creaking, moaning sounds, it sings.
Weathered wood and rusty chains.
The youth I had, through thoughts remain.
