A heart full of love
given: expecting the same
but waiting in vain

In the morning light
we would feel alright
hold each other tight
'till the evening light.
We would dance all night
laughing breathless
in each others eyes
'till the morning light.
When I sleep at night
you are on my mind
smiling breathless
'till morning light.
We would dance all night
hold each other tight
laughing breathless
'till the morning light.
When I close my eyes
in the evening light
you are on my mind
dancing through the night.
In the morning light
with open eyes
I wonder
will you dance
with me tonight?

Spring snow and redwoods.
Transience and permanence.
Which is our friendship?

About this poem:
This is a haiku I wrote many years ago when I was living in Clifornia.
In the seventies Haikus were very popular in Northern Califormia, as were many things Japanese aand Indian: the hippie era and 'alternative' living and religions.

Bird Table (Nature) Haiku
Icy lacy frost
blankets Holly bush and tree,
Graces berry feast.
Sky Art (Colour) Haiku
Crimson wisps blood-stain
azure's fading sky to paint
dusk's art at sunset.
Tall Order (Animal) Haiku
Legs all sprawled askew.
Yards of neck enmeshed in thorn.
Delicate giraffe.
Despair (Emotion) Senryu
Anguish, held too long.
Wracking sobs and flowing tears.
Eyes implore. Arms fall.
Today (Open Choice) Senryu
Baby born today.
Text said: "Girl, black hair. All well!"
Could be monkey too.
I Am. (Tanka)
Set me a challenge.
Give me a reason to know
something that I don't.
When I can master it once,
Then I'll show you who I am

About this poem:
Senryu is a Japanese form of short poetry similar to haiku in construction: three lines with 17 or fewer morae (or on) in total. However, senryu tend to be about human foibles while haiku tend to be about nature, and senryu are often cynical or darkly humorous while haiku are more serious. Unlike haiku, senryu do not include a kireji or verbal caesura (cutting word), and do not generally include a kigo, or seasonal word.
It is often said that both haiku and senryu can be funny, but that if it’s funny, it’s probably senryu. Both haiku and senryu can be about nature, but if it’s about nature, it’s probably a haiku. In addition, both haiku and senryu can be about nature or human nature. Both haiku and senryu can be serious or humorous/satirical. A serious poem about nature is certainly a haiku. And a funny/satirical poem about human nature is certainly a senryu.
Tanka consist of five units (often treated as separate lines when transliterated or translated), usually with the following mora pattern: 5-7-5-7-7.
The 5-7-5 is called the kami-no-ku (“upper phrase”), and the 7-7 is called the shimo-no-ku (“lower phrase”).

You made me skip broken heart beats
but still thats nothing new
I smile when I see your face
but thats been done before
*
I used to seein smiles and hugs
but yours is something more
I dont know how this can be true
this is why I liked you
*
Your safe warm hugs i know I need
are tight and never end
Your smile mirrors on my face
and wipes away my pain
*
My heart stops cause of what I know
and what I meant to you
As you brought me something to love
by simply being you
*
With just one blink I see your face
As clear as bright blue seas
And yet I see the memories
that still can make me smile
*
You always meant so much to me
but in so many ways
So once you asked why I liked you
Well maybe now you'll know

About this poem:
I had the most amazing best friend, who had everything a girl would love both from his personality and looks but he constantly doubted himself. As I used to like him he always asked what did you ever like about me every time he felt insecure and I could never come up with the right words so I wrote this. And from love to friendship its still true to this day
