The ghost of Chairman Mao

I was running in Majorca
at some indecent hour
when in the road
I came upon
the ghost of Chairman Mao

The acrylic shorted stalker
stopped me with a bow
I kneed him in the bollock zone
the ghost of Chairman Mao

He didn't take it kindly
a spectral sort of sour
then dropped me with a Kung Fu leap
the ghost of Chairman Mao

I hiked it down an alleyway
but with supernatural power
he relieved me of my running shorts
the ghost of Chairman Mao

So take it as a warning
as a warning take it now
its best to raise a platitude
if you meet the ghost of Chairman Mao

A Poem about Poetry...

The vast night sky, my empty page,
In starlit words I sink,
Moon beams ignite my muse and sage,
And steep my thoughts in ink.

I gazed inside my heart to write,
Where flows a lifelong stream,
I dipped my pen in to the night,
And wrote a morning theme.

My poems they can be dark or bright,
As feelings I impart,
Conveying sorrow or delight,
But always from the heart.

Hear my advice, my poet friends,
In fantasy just roam,
Poetic vision never ends,
So dream and write a poem.

The Magnificent Air

Invisible air links all living things
Whether animals, plants or some other
Throughout Nature, this message rings
Living things share the air with each other

Food and water that animals take in
And oxygen from the air they inhale
Provide energy after processing
And carbon dioxide which they exhale

From carbon dioxide, plants take carbon
And incorporate it in their structure
This is through photosynthesis action
Which releases oxygen thereafter

These actions are repeated endlessly
Asserting the link between living things
It's a glorious marvellous unity
And the magnificent song Nature sings

About this poem:
The air we breathe is probably one of the most taken for granted things. It unites all living things. It levels the playing field. Some persons may consider human life to be superior to plant life. Yet, plants play a vital role in sustaining human life by replenishing the oxygen content of the air. They assimilate, into their structure, the carbon from the carbon dioxide human beings exhale and release the oxygen through photosynthesis, thereby replenishing the air's oxygen, which is vital for human existence

(iambic pentameter).

I Am A Wildflower

Out in the open meadow
Swaying in the breeze
I am a wildflower
Living a life of ease

The seed from which I grew
Was blown here by the wind
It landed on the earth
And that was my beginning

I am watered by the rain
And fed by the earth
Each of them is dear to me
My life depends on both

My beauty is free for all to see
Even a little child
I love the life I am living
I enjoy being free and wild

The Covid Child.

Mum what’s a Covid virus ?
My friends are all afraid,
We have to keep our distance,
And it’s so long since we played.

We need to meet so badly,
We’re just sick of being refused,
As we are only six years old,
And really quite confused.

So when can we return to school ?
To learn in our classroom,
To laugh and play together,
It’s not the same on zoom.

Why can’t we visit Granny ?
I’m told she can’t come here,
Each time we speak across the phone,
I hear her shed a tear.

I miss her hugs and stories,
That I’m her hearts beguile,
I remember well her countenance,
Though a mask conceals her smile.

I hope that she’s not lonely,
For that would make me cry,
And yet if we hugged Granny,
Does that mean she might die ?

I pray each night the vaccine works,
To cure the lock down pain,
And make the virus dissappear,
So we can play again.

The Story of Life

To exist, a living thing must be born
Whether animal, plant or some other
This marks the initial stage it builds on
And heralds its life that follows after

After its birth, there is the growth process
Which requires adequate nutrition
In this vital stage, there must be success
In order to attain maturation

A living thing in full maturity
Displays its species characteristics
These serve to define its identity
In testimony of its uniqueness

Living things are programmed internally
To keep their species continuation
To make this action a reality
They engage in acts of reproduction

Living things cannot live eternally
The process of decay cannot be stopped
Bodies that once were quite firm and healthy
With time they become shriveled and dried up

The action of decay is precursor
That signals the final stage which is death
For living organisms wherever
This occurs when they take their final breath

Ice dancer

cold ice dancer
raspberry ripped
clean clean glass
muscle stripped

no passion spared
whirling storm
he held her high
strength and form

carving crystals
blade and steel
spotlight night
a show for real

judges gasp
audience hail
pinnacle display
they could not fail

About this poem:
Really enjoyed the ice dancing in Beijing, and those guys are strong holding up partners with one hand, even if they weigh only 50 kg its amazing to see. I'd struggle with 10kg over my head!!

Lime Rhyme on a Dime

Thunder claps
come down the hall
outside the rain
begins to fall

the raincoat hangs
upon the stand
for events like these
that come unplanned

into the street
I like to stroll
to see Mrs Toad
and Mr Mole

they live quite handy
down the road
in a typical suburban
humble abode

Mole will serve up
tea and jam
while Mrs Toad
prepares the ham

We talk of family
and local news
and trifling nothings
that do amuse

Better friends
are hard to find
they're a fitting tribute
to animal-kind

By 7 pm
I'm on my way
the rain has gone
for another day

Poem for the cat

rain sings on the iron
the cars they wash on by
my fireside cat he's dryin'
his sleepy night is nigh

I wish I knew his dreaming
but I have no chance to pry
I'm sure its fully teeming
with mice that weren't so sly

and somewhere on a rooftop
beneath the bluest sky
this princely feline's eyeing
the birds that go on by

CS Poetry Corner

Once upon a time some poets would gather
And write poems of their choice
It was beautiful and lovely
It allowed each poet to have a voice

Comments made on those poems
Were lovely to read and digest
The comments inspired the poets
And gave them a feeling of being blessed

To all those poets I wish to say
It was great to have your work read
May your lives be blessed evermore
Thank you for what we have shared

And now, all you dearest poets
You can look back at those days
They were all so wonderful and happy
Oh yes, those were the days

La-la-la-da-da-da
La-la-la-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da, la-da-da-da-da

About this poem:
I posted my first piece here on CS Poetry Corner in June 2013. There was a great camaraderie among the poets then and the subsequent years. It was a wonderful feeling that inspired other poets and myself in our writing.

I have written this piece in honour of those days.
It was inspired and motivated by the song:

“Those Were The Days” by Mary Hopkins
