old cars and rusted hearts

the cafe was closing
and the air was darker
than age
Mary was fixing
her order
and her world
had become
like a cage

will you still see me
on Sunday?
will you wear that dress
and look nice..?
but you know
that a question
ain't a question
when you
got to ask it twice..

and the sparrows
still play
in the cornfields
where we used
to make love
and you'd sing..

ain't it funny
how something
is nothing
when nothing
was once everything?

I drove down there
around midnight
past farms
that seemed
to be free

but I knew
one day
that I'd buy one
and that
would be the end
of me

talk of music
and college
of dance halls
lawyers and gown
but it's hard
to dance with a roughneck
when a banker's hand
owns town

she was getting tired
of me
my work, my car
and my dark
and I looked to the heavens
for answers
and saw nothing but stars
and a lark

"I heard she married a doctor"
my friend Dave
did say
later on

and I smiled
like it meant
nothing to me
and got sick
when I knew
he was gone

now the sparrows still sing
in the cornfields
neath the mountains
where she
used to sing

aint it funny
how something
is nothing
when nothing
was once everything

and her car, her car
is a dream.

the unasked question

baby, hills run dry
beneath your velvet sky
outside i queue for gas
in the rain

baby, I don't know
how the tale of us will go
don't walk away
on stepping stones of pain

your smile is a light
on a cold dark night
look and search my face
there's no distain

all I ask for now
is some peace somehow
no need to give me
shelter from the rain

Stay Home

Stay home
Don't look for fight
Stay home
Make it alright

Stay home
Jam when daylight
Stay home
Chill the night

across the universe - ballad of ballads

across the universe, again,
all by myself, almost unreal,
angels apologize, at my most beautiful,
atmosphere;
barely breathing, better than me,
beyond the call, blurry,
bring me to life, broken,
burning in the skies;
castle of glass, chances, changes,
chariot, chase this light,
clouds, collide,
come a little closer;
day after day, deep inside of you,
disconnected, do you remember,
dreaming with a broken heart, driven under,
drops of Jupiter;
electrical storm, empty spaces,
end of the world, everything burns,
eyes open;
fade into me, fall to pieces, far far away,
feels like tonight, first day of my life,
follow you, follow me, for reasons unknown,
forgiven, not forgotten;
get to you, give me a sign,
go the distance, going home tonight,
goodbye for now,
goodbye to love;
heart of stone, heavy in your arms,
helpless when she smiles,
here and now, here with me,
here, there, and everywhere,
hold my hand, how you remind me,
hymn to her;
I belong to her, I finally found someone,
I love you, I miss you, I need you,
I will be here for you, I will come to you,
I will follow you into the dark,
if I could turn back time,
if wishes came true, if you only knew,
in a little while, in your eyes,
it ends tonight;
just between you and me,
just like heaven, just say yes,
kiss;
last to know, leave out all the rest,
let her go, let me kiss you,
life goes on, lightning crashes,
listen to your heart, losing you,
lost in paradise, louder than words,
love letter;
making love out of nothing at all,
maps, marooned, maybe tomorrow,
minute by minute, misunderstood,
my immortal, my sacrifice,
my world;
never surrender, never tear us apart,
no expectations, nothing to lose,
now and forever;
one step up, only in dreams,
open your eyes, other side of the world,
over you;
paint my love, patience, perfect,
pieces, please forgive me,
powerless, promises, quicksand,
quietly;
reach for the sky, read my mind,
real love, receive, rescue me,
return to innocence, right here waiting,
road to our dream, rooftops,
running to a standstill;
said it all, sail to the Moon,
same mistake, save me, save you,
say hello, sea of love, second chance,
secretly, send her my love,
she talks to angels, signals over the air,
silver and cold, sleepless nights,
slowly slipping away, so far away,
some say, someday, something more,
somewhere only we know,
speechless, starlight, still in love with you,
stillness of my heart, surrender to me,
sweetest thing;
take a picture, take me away,
through glass, time for miracles,
to be with you, to the end, true love waits,
try again;
unconditionally, under the bridge,
under the Milky Way,
undiscovered;
waiting for a girl like you, we can last forever,
when I look to the sky,
when love and hate collide,
when the stars go blue,
when you close your eyes,
where are we now, where are you going,
wish you were here,
with a smile, with arms wide open,
within me;
you and I, you and me,
you and your heart,
you found me, your guardian angel,
your love.

About this poem:
This is a "ballad" poem, which I created using actual names of songs categorized under "ballads", and from a to z, with a couple letters missing. . . Someone ought to write a love song that starts with x or z.

the rebuild

she was crying
in the sea
unloved and worn
she spoke to me

her heart and boards
were long ripped out
her diesel engine
left in doubt

yet I heard her
heard her true
in her estuary
of blue

I spent a fortune
on her hull
I slept beneath
the dawning gull

weeping wounds
carved by years
open sores
wept salted tears

a friend helped me
with her coat
a rising tide
lifts every boat

and I rescued her
that year
out of wet rot
out of fear

yet twas she
who rescued me
with my work
upon the quay

less days
to think of you
my retro thinking
hours few

the odd bewildered
passerby
would enquire of me
"Why?"

this dishevelled
bearded man
eating something
from a can

I thank the thousands
that walked past
who saw her place in life
as last

they failed to stop
and read the signs
they saw no beauty
in her lines

wandering anger

I met her
in the winter
in a bar
upon the hill

when the dark
was carved by starlight
and the moon
had paid the bill

I stepped in
from the wilderness
from the howling
wind and rain

I was weary
from my journey's
around other
people's pain

"you are bearded
broad and ugly"
said the prairie girl
in fright

not one
for moralising
we shared our bones
that night

I told her
of my story
from the famine ships
I came

in a world
of madness hunger
where I killed men
to my shame

corruption
took our homelands
our humanity
and our dead

I hated a world
that priced our lives
in the currency
of bread

I left her
at the dawning
as a coyote
fought the moon

one night
was our forever
she'd be over me
by noon

my journey
is a lonesome one
thrown far
by a devil's hurl

so I bellow
out two fires
for the prairie
and the girl

Vanessa, explained

If I could hold
the quill of truth
over the page
of unfolding story

and hold it still
and let the page itself
write the words
of your defining glory

if I could see
the candle
that lights the table
beside your bed

and see that light
in constant fight
against the dousing
tears you shed

but bitter winds
comb the sands
of the fragile breath
that you release

and war minds wait
in the long grass
as foil
against your peace

I would pray
with actions
outside the gate
off all you hold.. most true

and guard from devils
and unworthy men
the very thing
that makes you.. You

we endure

I got your picture in my cabin
your smiling face is everywhere
your ghost is what I sail on
through the ocean of your hair
and my work it takes me everywhere
and nowhere fast and slow

it takes a man to plough an acre
it takes a woman to make it grow

the sea elevates my singing
despite my ungrateful tone
my thoughts are made of music
my thoughts are mine alone
then you wander warm inside my mind
like a gift from god to me

it takes a man to bring his story
it takes a woman to set him fee

girl we never did much talking
and when we did it was so brief
we laughed about eachother
and we smiled through pain and grief
you made the mundane magic
and you fought hard for your dream

it takes a man to set a plough right
it takes a woman to hitch a team

there's an empty chair that held you
a rare creature tall and true
if life has taught me one thing
Ive learned it all from you
and you laughed at my cowboy movies
as I turned into my old man

it takes a man to work his heart out
it takes a woman to give a damn

Marianne

step into the make believe
footfalling into stones
where memories are citadels
wider than truth
her bones

I never knew the right words
you stole them with your smile
pirouetting effortlessly
some Parisian mile

the timbre of a meadowlark
pillowed under star
looking out for last call
in some forgotten bar

it rises in my dark thought
when my soul is out of tune
your ghost is like my memory
your voice is like the moon

I tried to find you in others
I can't do that anymore
I couldnt find the answers
this side.. of.. the shore

Dating site

Dating site ...
You make us be together
Eventhough some of us don' t bother
We laugh and fall in love because of you
But some of us can't make it through

Dating site ....
Some of us stay in you forever
But they don't even bother
They live in you day by day
They can't live without you, that's what they say

Dating site .....
Life will be empty without your site
Eventhough they always have cat fight
They think they are so cool
But the mods think they are just a bunch of fool
