They say "You should never hit a woman" and while I've never hit or shoved a woman in my life, that statement bothers me sometimes. First it bothers me because it understates that it's okay to hit a man or child, otherwise it would say "You should never hit people" which is a statement I'd stand behind any day. Second, it bothers me because it's simply sexist.
You should never hit people, man, woman child... Should never hit pets either... Or does it apply ONLY to women? Thanks for participating.
I had some thoughts about it. 1,where i was thought hitting women was worse and absolutely not done. 2, where all is equal so if hitting women is bad, you can't hit men also. and now 3, i stand that some men deserve to be punched. A lot of men live to fight. Some action will get reaction. Some men go out to fight. If you want to fight there is often somebody to meet your request.
Certainly not all men. And some women have the same traits.
Some people are on this physical plane. a violent kind But it happens a lot more with men. Hooliganism is a male thing. groups fighting each other for stupid identity crisis. The issue is that violence isn't the way to prove superiority. in movies, or jails, or in arguments, or with kids, .... But there is a population amongst us humans that biologically and/or socially feeds on violence.
pKrema: It wasn't directed at you, just a general statement...
I think, generally, that men are done underestimating women, especially after the advent of the #MeToo witch hunt. If men and women are "equal" then, to me, they are both equally violent and vicious.

They are equally violent and vicious but women are in general crueler...
i don't think anyone can justify hitting another, and it's not gender biased. hitting is not the same as restraining....and some folks can require restraining. given what we know about CTE i don't support boxing either.
I wouldn't hit anyone if I could help it, but I wouldn't stand back and see a vulnerable person or an animal take a beating... Reasoning or restraint would be the first objectives but self preservation wouldn't be far behind... Man or woman with a weapon (other than a gun) would be tackled by whatever means at my disposal, assuming all other options have been exhausted and only in the case of harm coming to others noted above...

one has the right to walk away...
Self defense will always be justifiable as far as I'm concerned. No one should have to stand there while they're getting beat up or threatened with physical violence. That's something their so-called "justice" better get right if they don't want people taking Justice in their own hand because someone can quickly become a perpetrator after they were victim... And I condone revenge as well...cold, calculated revenge, especially if the perp wasn't arrested.

smiley963: No-one/Nothing must ever be hit/hurt by any living being!
All very well and good, but if we are attacked, or threatened, we all have a point at which we would fight back - or at least, should fight back, if we value our lives.

if the perpetrator can not be restrained, then i'm all for self defense.
I had a gf who got drunk, and kept punching me in the face...
I blocked her after her first punch; but she grabbed my pinkie, and broke it at a 90 degree angle.
While I was straightening my finger back out, she punched me in the face again.
I blocked her next punch; but she grabbed my little finger, and broke it at a 90 degree angle again!
While I was straightening out my finger again, she punched me in the face again.
That's when I hit her in the face, rolled her up in a ball, in somersault position, with her head on the ground, and layed against her legs, to pin her in that position.
She was pinned in a ball; and I was relaxing, while using her as a pillow...
A lady cop pulled up and asked if everything was alright. I said, Yes; and the cop drove off.
The next morning I got on a plane, and left her; but my finger is still messed up.
"You should never hit a woman" That phrase is there since the time that it as yet was not illegal for husbands to hit their wives. Domestic violence wasn't considered a crime. So the saying was a moral reminder where no legal safeguards existed. To answer your question though, although it isn't acceptable for anybody to hit anybody else, it is even less acceptable to hit somebody physically weaker than you are. Be than man, woman or child.

I forgot to add...
I was walking away, down the sidewalk, when this happened.
I would if a woman was an aggressor (not unlike a male aggressor) and intended to harm me. Whether she is friendly or enemy.. either military or civilian.... defense is gender free .... aggression in war is gender free too. ...

Men should never hit women. Period. (actually, I don’t think men or women should hit anybody). That’s about upper body strength, where clearly we differ. But we don’t differ in brain strength, and it does women a disservice when men hold back from debating them with the same passion with which we would debate other men.
