You seem like a very intelligent guy who is up on the bible so I'd like you to clarify something for me. According to the old testament, god created adam in his image, in other words adam looks like god and conversely god must look like adam right? a man.

Hi Rohaan

I think mutation, natural selection, geographic and reproductive isolation all result in speciation and thus are responsible for all life on this planet. To me God is a creation of Humans

A most contentious subject, is religion, man has debated for millennia as to the existence of a God or not but consider this:
Before God there was ‘nothing’, just a dark empty void and apart from the burning question where then did He come from I have been puzzled for years by this nagging thought.
According to the ‘Fairy story’ after 6 days God saw that all He had made was good so He rested the 7th day etc. Where then did the Devil come from if He ‘God’ didn’t create him?
He had to have created the Devil otherwise how would He have tempted Adam? To accept this theory then one has to realise that this Creator was aware of ‘good and evil’ before He made ‘man’ and if, as it states, He created man in his own image then surely man was aware of good and evil from day 1. So what was the point of the ‘garden of Eden and the apple’ story then?
I do believe in a God but none of these ‘man-made’ ones though.

He is a constant reminder that this life we now know is spectacular--I go to the quay in the mornings and really, really do find awesome wonder in the sunrise. Having an enthusiastic and light feeling of pleasure in the beach, the breeze blowing, meeting friends and hugging, just having love inside me so strong it makes me want to cry and laugh at the same time. I don't think God is mean--He wants us to enjoy life. I don't know how else to describe how I feel. Liking myself, being able to look in the mirror and be reasonably satisfied that I have been fair to others, all these things are "God" to me. I love you Ardie, by the way

The universe sure it spectacular, no doubt about that. There are zillions of other suns rising over zillions + planets each day. What makes us so special ? And one day the universe will die and it will all be gone, our planet will be too hot for us in about 1 billion years time, so what was the point ? Is it your appreciation of mother nature perhaps and your ability to love that is so easily summed up by the use of the word God to explain it away ?

Forgetting the humanised God that religions believe in, would it be hard for you to believe in an energy that presently surpasses our comprehension?

zanni: Forgetting the humanised God that religions believe in, would it be hard for you to believe in an energy that presently surpasses our comprehension?

Something, somehow caused ‘the beginning of time’ to commence, be it what you may call it ‘God’ a ‘divine creator’ even the ‘big bang’ theory but whatever ‘it’ was is beyond our comprehension and our inability to understand the reason is so obvious for all to see.
You make something for a purpose and you don’t want ‘it’ to know what that purpose is, then you make it impossible for ‘it’ to find the answers. Otherwise there would be no point in making ‘it’ would there?
Science tells us all this will end in several billion years time, so!! That is not an answer just a supposition, what happens after then? Would it not be wise, therefore, for all mankind to assume that there ’may’ be a purpose to all this and that to live in harmony with each other and nature, to look upon each of us as our friends instead of our potential enemy, could result in something so wonderful that it would be very foolish not to consider the possibility.
If there is ‘nothing’ and we are an ‘accident’ that just happened what have we lost by living a life where every one has all they need, no suffering no pain caused by the inhumanities that are put upon us as we are having to live with now. What a beautiful world this could be but perhaps I’m only dreaming of a world where my grandchildren could grow up in, where the colour of a person’s skin or the language they speak doesn’t make the unapproachable.
Nuff sed.

god/gods is/are sweet sometimes but the problem is her/his/their age isn't that long to create this universe. doh

in practical way we don't need that concept but maybe sometimes it's better to have an illusion to cover our feebleness with that and it can be something like god/gods.

I am in the "bad times". I am doing my best to concentrate on all the lovely parts so this bad part won't get me down so much. It's hard. Thanks, though, for the sober reminder. I was having such a great day I almost forgot all the hardships.

There is so much you do not know about my life, and it would serve no tangible purpose to burden you with it. Having said that, loving the God I believe in, and appreciating all the wonder and beauty of life and the warmth and kindness of friends and acquaintances is helping me immensely, so if I do happen to be dreaming, please don't wake me. I'm happy in my confusion , and it helps me get through the day. and the next day. I really like you RD, but you just don't know--it's a tough row to hoe for me, but I am keeping my chin, and my dander up as high as I can and my belief, whether others agree, is helping me through it so it is a good thing, never-the-less. hug

Swade is a very intelligent guy, with a great sense of humor, and compassion as well as being a great Christian who is, as you said, up on the Bible.

God created Adam in His image - yes. However, your statement assumes image as meaning physical image. I could explain more, but I know doing so only leads to an endless line of questions.

I answered the little bit that I did, to give a little better understanding of the Christian viewpoint. A Christian believes we are all created in God's image - men and women - so obviously, we're not speaking of the physical image.

(If you want to know more, ask MikeHD, the DJ from Dallas, in the thread/poll, "Do you believe in Jesus?" and he'll give you a much more in depth answer, when he gets a chance to be online again. He's much better at explaining things than I am.)

Hey bro, I'm not knocking it, if faith is what gets you through all this then that's great. I'm just really interested as to why some folk can switch on this state of unquestionable and outright belief. I personally find it all so incredibly questionable that it makes me so curious, that's all..... thumbs up cheers
