Oregon/ West Coast

Would love to have you anytime. You would be greeted with open arms, flowers, sand dollars, agates, abalone shells and sunglasses. You can have the hide- a- bed; I get the room with the kitten [ of course]cool

Oregon/ West Coast

Great to hear. We have the very best universities and community colleges in America. I hope she’s taking a course of study that will be patent and affluent. BTW— I’ll never ( and I know there’s an adage to never say never!) live anywhere else but the southern Oregon beach. banana cool applause

Oregon/ West Coast

Thanks, Ali. I’m hunkered down, have to go to nearby grocer ( they’re open thumbs up) but have plenty of household goods/ kitten supplies for at least one month. Also, power bill is paid and many of us ( retirees) got extra help with those— I will use it, why not? Everything helps right now, although I’m not “ poor”, but probably you, too, know how fast money comes and goeslaugh Funny, how that works. Thanks again for praying for Oregon, a very wonderful, unique, sometimes puzzling, state. The “ region” I live in is quite a distance from Portland, a cosmopolitan city, with tons and tons of unhappy people ( angry, grouchy, cynical, pissy) so we here at the beach are more relaxed, accepting, optimistic. hug

Oregon/ West Coast

It appears that the state of Oregon is positioned to go back into lockdown, perhaps even more severe, shortly. ( it’s hard to know if this is true...so many things are said, some authentic, some not). Just wondering, what CS members think would be “ fair”. For instance, I heard that at least two prominent businesses here ( in Oregon, that’s all I’m going to say) are going to first, appeal to local and federal governments for an immediate financial reimbursement of EVERYTHING lost during shutdowns, and if not satisfied, sue for it. There is some precedent for this, believe it or not. Now, I would agree that it’s hardly the government’s fault that there’s a virus, but it would be akin to other “ insurances” against financial loss that are traditionally covered. Now please don’t label me socialist, but it seems to me that this is fair. Otherwise, we have hard- working shop and restaurant/ pub owners stripped of virtually all their hard work. (A friend of mine who owns a pub said the two shutdowns have cost him all profit made in the last nearly two years.) is there a better solution, in your opinions? Thanxhandshake

RE: What increases status across the board....?

As in “ Honor among thieves”, yes?laugh Or, one could surmise, “He was at the top of his game being an ego-maniac”. Status, I.e. not necessarily meaning ‘wholesome’.

RE: What increases status across the board....?

Did so— you and Selentite were spot- on. ( it’s delicious— made enough for tomorrow, too.cheers

RE: What increases status across the board....?

Hmmm...interesting thought....thanx. One thing I like a lot about you— you say a lot in just a few words—- brevity is coolthumbs up

RE: What increases status across the board....?

Howdy there..I jumped into this because it seemed so interesting, and I’m waiting for my stew ( Pisto!) to “ rest”. It seems a little bland— anything I could/ should add?hug

RE: What increases status across the board....?

One can have wealth but not class; one can have class without wealth; some very, very cool people have both. (I’m middle- class with a strong hope of having a touch of class— but having class is something reserved for the observer. ( Otherwise, one would be a bit egotistical to declare he/ she has class. RE: Where are the friendliest people you found while visiting foreign countries?

Thank you so much— what a splendid memory

RE: Where are the friendliest people you found while visiting foreign countries?

Oh Dino— I’m just a little jealous! Don’t get me wrong— it is so wonderful here. Google “ Coos Bay Oregon Beaches” ( I haven’t figured out how to send pics..help is on the way...) but you’ll see why I go on about my beautiful beach town/ home. It’s as cool as it can be. Hey, you so smart— can you play me “ Down By The Boardwalk”? It’s retro - 50’s or 60’s— thanx

RE: Where are the friendliest people you found while visiting foreign countries?

Years ago I met a mother and daughter from Dingle. They were visiting San Francisco; we met at Pier 39 (the heart of the nice tourist area) and we spent the entire day together— visiting Ghiradelli Square, Lombard, Haight- Ashbury, what a fun day that was with people I’d just met. They seemed so casual, like we were old familiar friends.

RE: Does God know your history as in the truth of your life?

Thats why when you are getting ready to do or say something there is this “ nudge” to wait, or not do or say it. We need to try and be very astute and recognize these “ flags” because they are Heaven sent.

“ I never regretted something I DIDN’T say”. laugh **

** this is an example, and agreeably not ALWAYS true—sometimes it’s important to speakprofessor

RE: Does God know your history as in the truth of your life?

I believe that He does know. I AM on the fence regarding “ details” that he might know, like VERY personal things...I mean, since it has been said by many ministers, “He is a gentleman”, part of me is drawn to believing that He may respect privacy. He gave us this tendency to want it for ourselves and others, so I would think He models this trait, as well. On the “ flip” side, I admit I’ve wondered if He “ knows” how a man feels, sensuously, and other Christian friends and I have actually talked about this. The analysis: probable, but none of our business. So, what’s good for one, is good for the other. After all, The Trinity is here to help, and like I said, God/ Jesus is a gentleman. JMOhandshake

Adages and such...

Hey gang— let’s start the week with some positive/ wise quotes, sayings. I’ll start with two ( don’t want to monopolize!)

“Don’t let your simplicity be imposed upon” ( either Thoreau or Emerson, dunno )

“If thine adversary be weaker than thou, spare him. If stronger, spare thyself”

Let’s get this show on the roadwave

RE: Losing my religion....?

Structure is a key word. With few exceptions, it’s impossible to navigate— without structure-education, most careers, paying bills, just the mediocre, mundane activities of daily life need structure. Sure, if “ religion” provides that for some, and embracing that religion doesn’t impose on another’s right to independent thought and way of life, heck, go for it. Just don’t try to impose it. (SOME Christians impose by having the attitude of, “ if you don’t do it my way, you’ll be wrong/ go to hell, etc..)

RE: Where are the friendliest people you found while visiting foreign countries?

Couldn’t have said it better—- I suppose their are regional -type similarities in all walks of life..handshake thumbs up

RE: Losing my religion....?

P.s. I wrote a little about Canada on another thread this A.M. handshake

RE: Losing my religion....?

’Morning...good to see you today. I’m pittering away a little time before taking Skedaddle out to the country vet for his “ big” operation. ( finding a surgical vet was a challenge nearby because of Covid) so it’s about 25 miles from here. Part of me feels a little bad, nature and all, it it must be done, so here we go...wish us well. Any thoughts or wisdom about what to expect in the coming days/ weeks following this? Thanx...cats meow

RE: Losing my religion....?

Theres a lot of that going around...thumbs up I believe it’s because many people are sick and tired of being told how to function by someone else. I may not be a Divinity scholar, but I am really, really sure that the brain cells we were all given were meant to be used...just sayin’professor

RE: Where are the friendliest people you found while visiting foreign countries?

I’ve only been to Canada, and a very short stay at that. The people I met/ talked with were civil servants ( bureau of this, bureau of that) shop clerks and waiters..all friendly enough. Here, the different states have their own personalities. In my observation, for example ( and I’ve lived or spent a good amount of time in these), California is quick to be friendly, but casual at parting; Oregon is slow to be friendly, but serious at parting, the Southeast ( Appalachia, etc...) lives up to its reputation of hospitality ( Virginia is especially warm and friendly) New York is friendly, but always in a rush ( love you! Gotta go....!) rural Washington( state) is friendly but reserved, cosmopolitan Washington( Seattle) is hostile.
