Just About Anything & Everything

Howdy Reverend. Congratulations, although belated...I’m Episcopal (“High”) and can remember when women weren’t allowed to be ministers. My current Priest is a lady—very neat church leader..I don’t know about your regional policies, but here in Oregon diocese, Episcopal, Lutheran, and Methodist ministers may substitute and/or serve as “supply - rural” priests in one another’s’ parishes. Do you know what all this means? Not wanting to be condescending, just wondering. Anyway, thanks for serving in the spiritual mission— we SO need you right now. Zillions of blessings...teddybear

Just About Anything & Everything

Mornin’, Cat..well, it’s 7:25 am here. My little booger baby (Skedaddle) is just wired today...it’s like he’s purposefully misbehaving..(“look how naughty and mischievous I’m being, Daddy, come scold me..ha ha..cats meow ) news on— looks like some of us will be getting $1400.00 soon..nice to hear from you. handshake

Just About Anything & Everything

Hey there—I see you’re in a “beach town”, too. How is it there? Do you get bad storms, or is your area somewhat sheltered, as Coos Bay is? People there nice? (They are here..) thanks for writingteddybear

RE: Are you getting a covid-19 shot ?

Hi Campero—This could get a little hairy (controversial), so I’ll proceed with a smidgen (small amount) of caution. Theories are always out there, some are true, not true, or partly true...in my lifetime, cancer research has been a major target—ie- “find a cure?! WHAT!! And put all of those scientists and doctors out of work??” Other similar points-of-view followed, or were prominent, as well. I love my state (Oregon) like there’s no tomorrow, but the vaccine assignations are poorly arbitrated. The “state” has set guidelines, but apparently give the counties the administrative “power”. For instance, where I live, it is supposed to be ‘80+ , then down to 70+... and residents with health factors, such as auto-immune conditions (which I have). HOWEVER, the supplying medical services here are going by the “80+” only, and no other factors whatsoever are being considered. (I can’t even get a return telephone call..) So, the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing, the procedural is either unclear or unabiding. It’s a hot mess, if you ask me.

Just About Anything & Everything

Good morning friends, pals, etc...I decided to start a thread that just about anybody could find interest in participating in— Write about your current experiences, fun/ fulfilling activities you’re doing to keep the boredom down, etc...

I’ve been creating a couple of small “retro-advertising” type items for my (mostly) vintage kitchen, keeping a journal, riding my bicycle, going down to the beach. Today I’m taking an elderly friend out to the county Fairground municipal center for her vaccine..then I’ll be watching old movies and making a home-cooked meal of salmon and a chef’s salad. I know it may seem mundane, but I’d like to hear about your lives’.teddybear

RE: TP wars, how much do you use?

Not really refreshing this thread on purpose, but yesterday I was at Freddie’s (large mega-supermarket/department store) and noticed several, let’s say, five, customers loaded up with 3 or 4 family packs of TP. I know some of the clerks, and I asked one of them if she thought there was yet another hoarding scare. “Oh, yes,” she replied, “and in a day or two were going to start rationing AGAIN...”
I had thought this part of the Pandemic had subsided, but it’s on again, I guess..sigh

RE: TP wars, how much do you use?

Consumer Reports states the average person uses 100 standard two-ply rolls per year. This is 8-9 monthly, or about two each week. FYI laugh

RE: Are you getting a covid-19 shot ?

How funny...I tend to get those two mixed up, as well...doh

RE: Friendly

The term “ green”, or “ go green” can apply to someone who embraces simplicity. Frank Lloyd Wright built “environmentally friendly” houses (his motive was to have the houses blend in naturally with the landscape. Collecting returnable containers for pay is considered environmentally friendly. Quick degrading straws, utensils, paper products, and so on. She may also be alluding to getting buzzed, but that is generally not used in this context. Living rustic ( simple cabin, fireplace/wood stove, oil lamps, privy, etc...it’s still being done. We also use the term, “living off-grid”.hug

RE: Halcyon days ....

What an absolutely lovely thing to say...they’re fortunate to have you..rose

RE: Are you getting a covid-19 shot ?

its a very compromising and troubling set of circumstances right now, and there really are conflicting observations and points- of-view; and all valid...everyone has a right to see and feel situations as they wish. I don’t have the answer, my friend. Prayer helps..handshake

RE: Say Anything

P.S. I wore a house key around my neck the rest of that stay...wasn’t about to let it happen again.

RE: Say Anything

So, I was staying at a friend’s house and they were gone overnight. I had to feed the pets, and they were getting very demanding. I hadn’t dressed yet, and sleep in my undershorts. I went out the living room door to the garage, and, lo and behold, the door shut. And locked. There was a sheet in the dryer, so I wrapped it around, Roman- style, used the panel to open the garage door, went to the front. Locked, too. So, back into the garage, and out a pet door ( it was large enough) to the back yard and deck. Patio door to kitchen also locked. Back into garage through doggie door ( because I had used control on panel to close big garage door—) and found a butter knife on pantry shelf and a flat head screwdriver, and carefully sliding the butter knife between door and tumbler, with other hand used screwdriver to lift the tooth of the lock just 1/32”. It worked. These things happen...teddybear

The ball is in your court, but you DID post, so I can say my piece: it’s hardly a mystery that folks back away from you...too many negatives, bud...conversing

RE: Are you getting a covid-19 shot ?

You’re fortunate to live in a state that can boast internationally high- ranking hospitals. The University Of Ohio Wexner Teaching Hospital and The Cleveland Center(s) are considered vanguard medical services. ( part of my on- going research in the field of practical nursing required electives directly related to hospital milieu, and along with Nortwestern , The Mayo Clinic, and St. Jude, Ohio is a very much preferred state to obtain a medical degree, a registered nursing degree, and a practical nursing degree. Many of my CEU’s ( college- level continuing education units) included syllabuses from Cleveland. These were accepted without hesitation, whereas some other regional units were picked apart. I had one honkin’ career— kept me extremely busy..) Thanks for taking your time to address these important circumstances).
To all- please pray for two families on my street. One is a corrections officer at a state prison and they are closing it, and he cannot possibly re- locate, and he’s still relatively young and rearing three children. Another- the mom is a substitute teacher ( but for years has worked pretty much full- time) was just terminated. I’m helping a bit, as I can. Oh, they’ll be all right, it’s just making a huge hole in their home economics. How I wish to God this thing would be over...blessings..teddybear

RE: Are you getting a covid-19 shot ?

Not sure where you’re at, but here, in my county, things APPEAR * to me to be somewhat ‘arbitrary’. That is, open to interpretation. So, some of us medical professionals, retired and active, have been/ and are, told conflicting data and information. It’s really, really tough. At the current moment (what’s THAT..) it is prioritized of “80 and up”, then 70 and up”, and then patients with compromised immune systems, insulin- dependent diabetics, ad en...for Covid related vaccination. The waters are murky— doctors who haven’t seen patients for years may be asked to provide a patent portfolio— it’s crazed beyond belief...pray for resolution, my friends...hug

RE: Tilt-Head Stand Mixers

you need to get the color that makes you the most contented. Nothing else matters.

RE: TP wars, how much do you use?

There’s a market out there for your type...wink

RE: TP wars, how much do you use?

This is still here!?

RE: Shark fin soup

See #29. I think he is referring to some cultures using dogs as pets, and then food. ( forgive me, folks, it’s a difficult thing to even mention, but I’m just answering the question...) thanx..hug

RE: Halcyon days ....

One must CHOOSE optimism. It does not occur ‘naturally’. The curse of all mankind is trouble from cradle to grave. It is our obligation to strive for, and obtain, a good life. Everyone has sorrow...it takes courage to carve out a decent, contented existence. I, and many, many others on CS have had to claw our way out. And if I can do it, ANYBODY can do it— I’m the biggest spoiled rotten grandma’s precious little stinker there ever was. I am the epitome of a maudlin man. But I don’t live in that realm. Choose to be happy. Nothing tangible in the world will, or can, do it , but you.teddybear

RE: Halcyon days ....

thumbs up thumbs up Same. I worked SO bloody hard for it, but it really did unlock the door out of poverty, and I’ve been able to live a much fuller life, as well as the satisfaction of earning a college degree with my own two hands..pretty rad..banana

RE: Halcyon days ....

Neat thread! For me, I think of those rare two- three day camping trips to the northern Oregon coast- the drive out from Portland was relaxing, the trip took about an hour and a half, there were great cafes and shops peppered along the way, people were warm and friendly. And then, the campground was so elegantly rustic— no motor vehicles allowed (you had to park above, take your gear down about a third of a mile.) I remember listening to a creek on one side and the lulling ocean on the other, all nestled in thick Douglas Fir and Ponderosa. It had to be the most perfect spot I knew of on earth. It meant so much to me because, although I loved much of city life, I longed for the wilderness and rural beaches. (Now I live it 24/7–Far out!!) next halcyon - probably my kitten Skedaddle—(Now I live it 24/7-far, far, farrrr out..sigh )
Nah, I’m pretty happy these days....it just got too quiet in the house...uh oh better go rescue him...Er, me, Er...roll eyes

RE: Which One of these topics makes you MOST Uncomfortable to deal with ?

As I was reading this I was reminded of one of my own “mantras”. I believe it’s ultimately ‘unhealthy’ to not read about, deal with, etc...certain topics simply because they’re “ uncomfortable”. That’s not a good enough reason to hide from the world. In my lifetime, saying the word “cancer” was taboo— many people would cringe, and say things like, “don’t bring that up”, etc...it solves nothing.
