RE: New Female Members

oops—“BUACHAILL” in Northern Ireland.

D’y’know it has many meanings, all good, generally gravitating to ‘best’, or ‘trusted’ lifetime friend. Sort of similar to the Yiddish “Mensch”. Anyway, the best!

RE: New Female Members

Reading with interest…pronunciations vary, as “meathe”, depending on county, isle, region, might be said ‘meeeth’, or ‘miith”, or even with a little “lilt”, as in “mee-aaahth”. Also, as we’ve discussed, “cara’, “Chora’, etc…just me, boni beauchal!

RE: Save the Queen.

I think Charles will be King fairly soon, he will dismiss the rule of divorcees, to gain clerical ( on paper) approval to be absolved from both their divorces, AND, get this— to pave the way for Camilla to be allowed to be crowned Queen {Consort}. The times have changed rapidly, even for The Royals.

Camilla Gonna Be Queen—- hey, let’s start something!

RE: The book club on CS

Do you want to know the truth? “To Kill A Mockingbird” pre-dated me ( let’s say, ‘slightly’, shall we?) but I was academic enough to know that it was a good story, a GREAT American story….but I was told, and became savvy, as it were, to almost resign myself to a lesser way-of-thinking, and became abhorrent to the idea of reading the book OR watching the movie…it’s too freaking SAD! I want to hear about people who work hard and make it, and happy days are here……look, we’re going to be here awhile, make the best…the government is difficult..( duh), prices are too high ( duh) etc…….I want nice warm cheerful stories….jmo

RE: The book club on CS

Yeah, Thanks BUNCHES!

Gotta hand it to you— that was as helpful as a flood in an Alka-Seltzer factory. Needed it like a fish needs a wetsuit.

Luv ya….hug

For a good all-around read, even though it’s been around for many years—
“Tell Me That You Love Me, Julie Moon” (Marjorie Kellogg), also
“The Catcher In The Rye” (J.D. Salinger)

Having a good day, chara?

RE: Punctuation can change the meaning of the whole sentence.

I found the basic history of it - finally! HenryII, in an outburst after a meeting with Tomas Beckett, Court Almoner, had a tantrum in the corridor leading to the drawing hall. Historians believe Henry did not actually intend to order Beckett’s execution, but the guard cornered him (Beckett) and killed him with swords. Henry submitted to being horsewhipped naked, as penitence,,then he was absolved of any crime or wrong-doing. I found it peculiar that the ruling monarch would be punished by his own court. But then, the crown had to heed The Church. Odd sets of rules then.

RE: Demanding Profession

You probably meant to include this with “doctor”—Nurse. Either Registered OR Practical. Every bit as demanding as being a physician. Often MORE.

RE: Should I, Shouldn't I?

I guess I’m a little confused—are you open to a personal relationship with another man, or am I missing something? (The way you say this in script is suggestive of it.) you’d be a catch, btw…wink

RE: Care worker sacked for refusing Covid vaccination

Oh good heavens—are you living under a rock? This sort of thing occurs even without a pandemic. Nurse and med assistant imposters have been around for a long time, as well.

RE: Care worker sacked for refusing Covid vaccination

Thanks for clarifying. Do you think there will then be a black market of care-giving? Unlicensed, uncertified, cash-only , under-the-table industry? Just wondering. Here’s a scenario: a couple both work outside the home. They must. His disabled, fragile grandmother lives with them. They have a certified med-aide to help her. That person leaves the job. There is no one else. They make an agreement with another person, who can do the work but has no credentials. A problem/accident occurs. There’s no financial bond. They can’t explain themselves, because hiring the way they did is unlawful. They can’t sue, for the same reason. A dandy kettle of stinking fish.

Thanks, love…teddybear

RE: Punctuation can change the meaning of the whole sentence.

I’m a little out of school on this, perhaps you can tell me:

I remember from college history the story of a king making this comment, with an annoyed tone:

“Can someone not rid me of this miserable priest?”, whereafter the guard arrested and killed the man.
(Was it Beckett?)

RE: Care worker sacked for refusing Covid vaccination

I guess some members are wondering ( still) if you think the medical community (employees) should be required to be vaccinated. Because those who refuse WON’T be working. It’s one or the other..

RE: Care worker sacked for refusing Covid vaccination

Whoever thumbed down #27— give a full and reasonable explanation

RE: Care worker sacked for refusing Covid vaccination

If you’re going to work in the medical field get vaccinated. Look, I had to undergo all kinds of testing to work. How about tetanus injections? Mandatory drug screenings? School/ university testing for Sports drug violations? Since when does anyone get to be exclusive? Because they’re told the must? Why, being told we “must” is legion. I don’t like the inconsistency of supposed personal freedom being sacked, either, but that train left the station a long, long time ago. To be quite honest, I don’t WANT a doctor, nurse, etc…anywhere near me if they’re not vaccinated. Do people really think it’s OK to think they can be the exception—especially with no consequences?

RE: Misunderstanding ======....!!!
